This would be a good mentor text for basic dialogue. As an adult reading the book it was not very engaging. The boys I read to enjoyed the book very much.
Lucy and Lenny are best friends and do everything together, and nothing scares them. Except for when they watched a scary program and Lucy was scared that night when she was alone. The next day Lenny asks Lucy to come and watch the next episode, but Lucy didn’t want too. It made her feel funny the thought of going to Lenny’s. When she arrived Lenny was watching the programme, and before she could say she wanted to go home she heard a scream. Lenny had seen a spider and now he was scared. But Lucy came to the rescue and showed Lenny he didn’t have to be scared. She then told Lenny that she was scared to, of the program and Lenny turned the television off. And off they go to defeat the ‘twelve headed snake’ in the tree …together. This is lovely story to encourage children to talk about what scares them and what they can do to overcome their fears. It also looks at how children can help each other to overcome their fears and to be understanding of those who have fears different from their own. It could be used to write their own stories of what they are afraid of and hoe they fell, and then how they believe they can solve the problem. A delightful story, with colourful illustrations, which can be used with KS1 in PSHE or English.
Two fearless friends, Lucy and Lenny, go on many imaginative adventures together. One day though, while relaxing in front of the t.v., a scary movie comes on. Lucy suddenly doesn't feel very fearless. What will Lenny think if she shares her fears? Will he still wish to be her friend? Tease her endlessly? This is a great read aloud for young children. Afterward the kids can chat about what scares them.
I really like these illustrations. I think they look kind of like a kid drew them. It could show kids that anyone could be an illustrator if they want to be. I also liked how the word "creature" was always capitalized and put a lot of emphasis on it.
Hilarious book about being friends and being your honest selves with eachother - fears and all. GREAT BOOK for early elementary children. Great book about imagination.
