He was her lover, until he kept a secret. Now it’s time for the truth! During their medical training, obstetrician Daniel Durand broke Sarah’s heart. Now, after years of silence, he shows up with a little girl and a big surprise. Dr. Sarah Matthews has every reason to mistrust Daniel when he joins her California medical group. Why did he suddenly break off their relationship, and why has he moved back into her town and her life? An egg donor during medical school, Sarah wanted to help a family desperate for a child. She never learned whether any children were born, but the process—she had to take hormones and abstain from sex--drove Daniel away. That doesn’t say much for him, in her opinion, yet he’s become a devoted father to his orphaned niece. Sarah feels the strangest sense of connection to the little girl. Is there more to Daniel, and to five-year-old Nina’s story, than he’s willing to share? This novelette was written by the USA Today bestselling author of the Safe Harbor Medical series.

For a novella this story had all the angst needed. Sarah and Daniel meet in med school and after a very brief affair he left her. Several years later he is back but with his niece in tow. Now he needs to explain why he did what he did. I truly enjoyed this short story by Jacqueline Diamond. I have read other stories/books by her and will again.
I found this book via Bargainbooksy Quite predictable but I think the author missed the opportunity to make the BIL sterile also. LOL. There is survivor's guilt, thinking she's responsible. There is also alcoholism from the parents. Nina, 5 y.o., didn't stand a chance in life, until her uncle took over. As a romance story, it's sad.
A pleasant short story, not terribly realistic and could do with being a bit longer. Still, good to read a story where people have to work for a living, rather than being billionaires!
Daniel Durand and Sarah Matthews had a romantic relationship during their medical training. However, Daniel left suddenly without telling Sarah that he was going or why. After six years with no word from him, Daniel comes back to town and takes a job in the same medical group as Sarah. When he moves back to this little town, he has a little girl with him.
What The Doctor Didn't Tell Her was a terrific story and Diamond is a terrific story teller. The story was drawn in such a way that I felt I could walk down the street or go into the hospital and know my way. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.
I didn't want this novella to end. But there really wasn't anything else to know since the author answered all the reader's questions. It had a great ending with a wonderful twist.
I really liked that the story wasn't predictable. I will definitely be reading more by this author.
It would have been so much better if the author had made it longer. The bones were there but it was rushed on many things. While the premise would have been boring as a full novel, it would have made a good novella.
I wish it was a longer book it kept me on my toes and was surprisingly good with this book I wish this author would have added more to the story and mad it much longer on how they grew old together and had there own children... etc. Erin,15.
I really enjoyed this short novelette. It would have been good to expand the plot a little as the characters were very likeable. Would definitely read more from this author.
