Some fires never burn out…

After ten years as America’s sweetest celebrity chef, Naomi Whitehouse is enjoying life out of the spotlight, back in her hometown of Summerville, Georgia. She’s opening a pastry shop with her sister, housesitting for her snowbird parents, and reconnecting with her roots. Life is good until she runs into her high school sweetheart, Jake Hansen, a sexy firefighter who gives her a reception chilly enough to freeze a forest fire. If Naomi wants her homecoming to remain all cupcakes and sugar cookies, she’ll have to win Jake over. But how can she earn his forgiveness when he won’t even speak to her?

When the girl who broke his heart buys a month of dates at the firefighter’s Hunk-for-a-Month fundraiser auction, only honor keeps widower Jake Hansen from backing out of the commitment. He won’t let the firehouse down, even if it means enduring a torturous month with Naomi Whitehouse. And Jake knows being close to Naomi again will be torture. Even after all these years, she still gets to him…not that he intends to let her know it. He’ll be civil, honor his obligation, and with any luck Naomi will tire of playing small-town pastry chef and Jake will never see her again.

But as the month passes, Jake and Naomi discover some fires never burn out. Will the heat between them be enough to melt away the pain of past mistakes, or is their second chance doomed from the start?

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jessie Evans, gave up a career as an international woman of mystery to write the sexy, contemporary romances she loves to read.

She's married to the man of her dreams, and together they're raising a few adorable, mischievous children in a cottage in the jungle. She grew up in rural Arkansas, spending summers running wild, being chewed by chiggers, and now appreciates her home in a chigger-free part of the world even more.

When she's not writing, Jessie enjoys playing her dulcimer (badly), sewing the worlds ugliest quilts to give to her friends, going for bike rides with her house full of boys, and drifting in and out on the waves, feeling thankful for sun, surf, and lovely people to share them with.

Stars: 1.5

Premise: Beautiful, 33 year old Naomi moves back to small-town Georgia to recapture the heart of a flaming hot fire-fighter high school sweetheart. However, he's not going to come without a fight.

Pacing: Way too fast paced. All events happen in a month's time span.

Plotline: Contrived, romanticized. Pushed through plot too fast.

Writing Style: Amateurish at best. It had minor editing problems with missing periods and commas. The sex writing was absolutely atrocious and unappealing. There was a random chapter about a minor character that was pointless. There were a few references that were off-mark, such as bees being able to smell fear. Also, the author apparently thinks that single mothers can apply for and get a child to adopt in a year's time frame. HAH! This is obviously a work from a new author.

“Jake Hansen. Just thinking his name sent a shiver up her spine that had nothing to do with the cold.” You don't need to say that.

“[They needed to start] their new lives off on the right foot. For Naomi, that first, right-footed step would be taken tonight.” Awkward wording in lots of parts.

"His cock was still the loveliest one she'd ever seen- long and thick, with an even thicker base like the root of the manliest tree ever grown, and a plump tip as round and flushed and delicious-looking as exotic fruit." This is the weirdest description of a penis I've ever seen.

Characters:

Naomi is a big fat bitch. That's the best way to describe her. She's stalkerish, waiting beside his truck after the auction to see him, and googling him for hours to learn about his life. She says she likes to avoid conflict. This is very accurate. She wrote a five page break up letter to Jake when they broke up, AND cheated on him with HIS BROTHER. So not only is she a big fat bitch, she's a cheating whore as well. She also thinks at one point that real men are attracted to curves, which is rather upsetting because there is no standard of beauty; curvy or not, anyone can be beautiful. Naomi as a character has no redeeming qualities, and she is hellbent on making Jake love her again while lying and saying she just wants to be friends. She is a manipulative, ugly character.

Jake is no-bullshit at first, and I found myself hoping he would shut her down and she would live forever alone in her misery. So while he was written as a very blunt, strong character, the author ruined him by having him propose to the vile Naomi after only a month. Poor character development all around.

Melt with you is sweet and sexy and will melt your heart. Can the one person that broke your heart still be the person you were meant to be with? Jake was destroyed when Naomi left. He needed her like he needed air to breathe. It took him years to get over her and when he finally did move on tragedy struck. Maybe Jake was just destined to be alone.

Naomi messed up big time when she walked away from Jake to pursue her Hollywood dream. Sure she had been with some of Hollywood’s finest, but she never felt loved by any of those men. She knew that no one could ever love her the way that Jake did. All she could think of as she returned home to Summerville was how she could possibly get Jake to forgive her for leaving him. It had been 15 years. They were older now. So when the opportunity to buy a few dates with him crossed her path she could not resist.

Jessie writes a beautiful story about two broken people that find their way on the path of forgiveness. She created some very realistic characters that you can empathize with. All of us at one point have made stupid mistakes that we have had to live with. The supporting cast in the book is awesome and makes you excited about reading their stories. You have Maddie, Naomi’s sister, whose husband left her for another man. You have Faith who has been severely burned by someone in her past to the point that she will not even entertain the idea of dating. You have two hot sexy men Jamieson and Mick that you can’t wait to see fall hard.

If you love sexy fireman and scorching four alarm flames of lust then you will love Melt with You.

It's hard to like a book when you don't like one of the main characters and that is the case with me regarding "Melt With You." Naomi Whitehouse snuck out of her small town eighteen years ago to pursue her budding career as a celebrity chef. When she left she broke the heart of Jake, the one man who loved her unconditionally. She didn't even tell him face to face. She sent him a letter. To make matters worse, she kissed his baby brother the night before.

After years of living in the limelight, dating various celebrities, Naomi return to her hometown to open up a bakery with her recently divorced sister and a friend. Before Naomi left for home she had prematurely given birth to a baby girl who only lived a few hours. Although she is mournful she wants to set things right with Jake.

Jake had a hard time moving forward after Naomi cruelly wrote she couldn't be monogamous. However, he met the sweetest girl named Jenny and they married and were eager to start a family together. Unfortunately, two years later Jenny was killed by a drunk driver. Now, the one woman in the world he has never wanted to see is back in town trying to worm her way back into his life. She manages to do just that when she buds for an wins four Friday night dates with him at a charity auction. Slowly Jake begins trusting Naomi agar and falling in love with her. However, how will he react when he discovers that Naomi and his brother betrayed his trust eighteen years previously?

The writing of the story was quite well done as well as the world building but I just did not like Naomi. She felt manipulative, untrustworthy and not worthy of Jake's love for a second time. I might be interested in going on to read the next book in the series because the supporting characters held more of an interest for me and it seems that each of them will get their own books.

Naomi’s character may not bother others as it did me; so, I recommend you read this book for yourself and decide. It is currently being offered for free on Amazon.com.

I am a real fan of Jessie Evans. Having loved her 'Always A Bridesmaid' books, I was super-excited to read 'Melt With You' the first installment in her new 'Fire and Icing' series. Summerville, GA, is once again the setting for this story (I really like that there is character crossover between series), and Jessie does an excellent job of painting small-town life in such a way that you would gladly take up residence there. As well, the characters are always so easy to relate to, the kind of people that you can readily see yourself wishing you were related to, being friends with, and falling in love with. I found myself smiling during interactions between all of the characters, romantic or not, and just love that everyone has so much heart.

Jake Hansen has never gotten over the fact that Naomi Whitehouse, his high school sweetheart, and the real love of his life, picked up and moved on during the summer after high school ended. She's gone on to fame and fortune as a celebrity chef, and he moved on, too. When Naomi decides to move back home to Summerville in order to slow down, enjoy life around her family and friends, and start a family of her own, Jake doesn't want to have anything to do with her. Naomi is determined to mend fences and move forward as friends, so that her new life doesn't include any old grudges.

There are secrets to be revealed, hearts to be fixed, and love to be won. Jessie manages to make it all work so well, and leave you anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. Whether you're an old fan of Jessie Evans, or new to her books, read 'Melt With You.' You won't be sorry!

I’d missed listening to Piper Goodeve’s voice. She is one of my very top favorite narrators. I love that she always does great female and male voices flawlessly. Her acting choices really enhanced my reading experience overall and is one of the key factors for my plan to continue reading this series via audiobook format.

Story rating: ★★★☆☆

I appreciated that Naomi and Jake’s story was a fast-paced 2nd chance romance. Naomi did what I can’t imagine ever doing – bailing on a relationship because your lover means too much to you. I’ll never understand that really. But in her case, she was still a young teenager at the time when she realized she needed to leave her hometown and her first love Jake and go where her talents as a chef could take her. Jake was devastated when she left, and it took him a long time to recover and give his heart freely to another woman. Sadly, both Jake and Naomi suffered a huge loss before Naomi decided to return to her hometown and replant her roots. Of course, Jake wanted nothing to do with her, but the fundraiser for a new fire station made avoiding her impossible. Naomi overcame Jake’s resistance to reconnecting, but then screwed up majorly by not revealing an old secret before someone else did. But they worked through her misstep quickly and moved forward as more mature thirty-something lovers.

I also liked the secondary characters that interacted with Naomi and Jake. I’m fully invested in discovering how all of their potential HEAs will play out.

Next up in the series:
To Tame a Wild Firefighter (Red Hot Reunions #2) is firefighter Faith Miller’s love story with Naomi’s brother Mick Whitehouse.

I read "Melt With You" in one sitting. It was a book that really tugs on your heartstrings because of the intensity the two main character have for each other and their pasts.

Naomi Whitehouse is a famous TV chef. After having to deal with enormous loss, she realizes that home is where she needs to be. She has given up her tv show and fame to go back home with her family. Lucky for her, her sister also moves home. They start their own shop since both of them having cooking backgrounds.

All is right with her professional life, if only her personal life could only be that easy!

Naomi never stooped loving her high school sweetheart Jake Hansen. He is one of her reasons for moving home. Jake is the current chief of the fire department. Naomi left Jake right after high school. She took the cowards way out and wrote him a letter she left with his brother. Although she never stopped loving him, she wanted to go and see the world.

Now almost 15 years later, Naomi has seen the error of her ways. Jake has been hurt more by Naomi than anyone else is his entire life. He is not sure he even wants to see her again. Little by little Naomi inches her way back into Jake's life and his heart.

Naomi sees forever with Jake. Back when she left the letter with Jake's brother, they got really drunk and can't remember what they did together.

Will this be it for Naomi and Jake if he finds out?

I loved this story. It was a fast read for me and I instantly fell in love with Jake. He is tough fireman with a sensitive side. Naomi will break your heart with the loss she has endured. You are rooting for the couple right from the first pages.

When Naomi comes back to town and wants to be friends with her high school sweetheart, Jake, things don't go as she planned. She tricks him into dates but after spending time together he realizes he can't keep denying his feelings. Even though they've both been hurt in the past they decide to try again. They have great chemistry and they are HOT together. I laughed out loud more than a few times and did I mention it's HOT?!
You get to see some familiar characters from The Bridesmaid series and meet new characters (Yay! Mick) Jessie has an amazing way of describing scenes where you actually see and feel the flowers and the sun and taste the salted caramel cookies.

"And now, with her laying beside him, her arms up over her hear and her eyes closed to soak in the warm rays, she looked good enough to eat. All he wanted to do was to cover her body with his own, let his lips play down her throat to the top of her sleeveless dress and use his teeth to tug away the thin fabric..."

It's very well written and you instantly care about all of the characters from the very beginning.
The secondary characters are so intriguing that I actually clapped when I saw the preview for the next book!

Favorite line. "In black jeans, a white button-down, and gray V-neck sweater, Jake looked like he should be modeling business casual for Delicious Man-Meat Monthly."

When our girl Naomi is on a mission the girl won't stop until she gets what she wants, "Naomi moved quickly, with the determination of a woman on a mission of good will, but she was still a good ten feet away when Jake looked up. It was like they had a psychic connection." It's obvious these two have a past but Jake did he have to be so mean, "Jake smiled, a hard smile that made the afternoon feel colder. "Honestly, Naomi, I couldn't care less what you're sorry about." I mean I be a bit upset if I were Naomi about not getting what she's dreaming of as well, "Naomi could say unequivocally that Jake had the best co** ever - perfect length, perfect shape, prefect plump head that flushed a lovely plum cover when it was happy to see you. It was completely adorable, in the sexiest way possible. And she would probably never see it again." But a miracle happens and Jake finds it in his heart to give it to his girl, "God, you feel so good," he mumbled against her mouth before claiming her lips for a bruising kiss, drawing another moan from Naomi's throat as his hands moved to grip her a**, his fingers digging her flesh through her dress and thin lace underwear." I thought this was a cute book and I enjoyed reading it.

I got this book for free...thank goodness.

It was so bad. I hated Naomi and Jake didn't do anything for me either.

Jake's a fire-fighter, but except to talk about raising money for a new fire-house, there is no mention whatsoever about his job. He could have been a plumber or lawyer for all the impact it made on the story.

Very cheesy plot with a pitiful "date auction". Read like a really bad rom-com movie of the week.

It was ok.

At first I became a bit intrigued, but towards the middle the story sort of dragged on and lost my interest. I was able to anticipate what was going to happen an thus lost interest.

Melt With You by Jessie Evans is a sweet story of love rekindled. Jake and Naomi were high school sweethearts. They went together for three years. Naomi broke it off by letter. She met with Jamison, Jakes younger brother, and they got drunk and made out and woke up the next day in a sleeping bag together with all their clothing on. Nothing happened between them. Naomi goes to culinary school and makes a name for herself. She has her own tv show, develops a line of gourmets food products and a major department store wants her name on a brand of cookware. She has a condo in Miami and a cottage in Colorado. She's dated many well known celebrities. Traveled the world. Jake is hurt. Everytime he sees Naomi he turns away or leaves. The committee for a new firehouse is holding a fireman auction for dates for the next four Friday nights. Naomi bids on Jake and wins.Jake says he will honor the commitment. The first date he ignores her. The second date he runs away. The third date they can't keep their hands off each other. The final date is the fireman's ball. Jamison decides to come clean. Jake punches him in the mouth and takes off in his truck. Can Naomi save their relationship?

This book would have benefitted from being longer, everything seemed so rushed.

Naomi and Jake had history together, and they both had tragedy in their pasts, so there was lots of story potential there. One minute Jake hates Naomi's guts, can't stand to even look at her, the next they are back together like the last 15 years hadn't even happened? I just wanted things to slow down a bit so I could get to know these people a little more.

Then there is an entire chapter devoted to secondary characters as a set up to the next book, totally unnecessary. Since it came right during a pivotal part of the story, it seemed to stick out like a sore thumb. Then I didn't even get to read the conversation Jake had with his brother? Aargh! That seemed important.

I did like the story, and the main characters, I just wanted more depth.

(******Mild Spoiler******) One last minor quibble: the part with the ring and the train tracks? Since Jake seems so uncomfortable taking money from Naomi, this seemed really out of character. It's $10,000!

Totally loved this sweet romantic book a lot.
Naomi comes back home, she has made most of her dreams come true and had some heart ache. She is living with her brother and sister in her parents house in the town she grew up in. She wants to make amends with her high school sweetheart Jake.
Jake had his heart broken twice, first when Naomi left town and him via a letter and then when he lost his wife of 2 years.
It has been 15 years since they have seen each other, Jake has his wall up and Naomi wants to be friends.
Very touching story. I would have liked a little more about why Naomi ran off like she did.

I love Jake, the sexy hot fireman. This is such a sweet and intense second chance at love story. Naomi returns home and she has her work cut out to try and win him back. A lot of time has passed and they both moved on with their lives, Jake is a widower, and she lost her child. She comes back home and Jake is not too happy to see her. Will Jake and Naomi come out on the other side? Love Jake and Naomi!
Melt With You is the first in the Fire & Ice series and you get to see some of the characters from the Always A Bridesmaid series. I loved that we got to see them in here.

I picked this up expecting a happy, lighthearted read, and that is exactly what I got!
I love that the main character isn't perfect but tries to make amends for her past mistakes. That takes guts, determination, and humility.
My only little, tiny complaint is that it isn't long enough; however, that "complaint" is really a compliment. I want more.
Thank you for a delightful afternoon of reading.

Finished this book as soon as my 11 month old would allow. Absolutely loved it; Jake and Naomi's romance was fantastic and I'm already in love with Jamison and can't wait for his story. It was great to hear about Aria too (my fav from Always A Bridesmaid series). Can't wait to start the next in series.

Love Is Awesome!

A thirty something woman returns to her childhood home and falls in love with her old flame in a heartbeat. The problem is that he has been so hurt, he sees her return to town and his hatred and disgust is reignited. What will happen? This a delightful tale about love and it's pitfalls.

This book was ok. It wasn’t really the book itself or the writing. I just did not like the main characters. There was zero redeeming qualities for Naomi. She was a really crappy person. She leave’s town and breaks up with from how the story describes him perfect man Jake, Because she wants to sleep with other guys. And see what’s out there. Just yuck!!! Then we find out she messed around (not all the way to sex) with Jakes younger brother Jamison the night before she leaves.. Then when Jamison confesses to Jake her excuse was it was 15 years ago and it didn’t mean any thing. EXCUSE ME! If you had messed with my brother/sister and it was 75 years ago that’s still a hard no. There is no excuse you can give me. Idc if it wasn’t all the way to actual sex and you were supper drunk! Just no!!!! Then she convinces him she didn’t tell him because it would hurt him. Well no kidding it’s going to hurt him!!! I mean Jesus it was HIS BROTHER! But some how he falls for this BS and after she gets done gas lighting the h€ll Out of him he proposes. This was just icky.

I found the writing to be uninspired. There was a random chapter from the pov of a minor character that didn't belong at all. The sex scene was cringe worthy and I must admit I skipped a lot of it because it wasn't readable. I don't mind a redeeming character arc but this one was terrible, the writer tries to make you feel sorry for the female main and it reads like because her life didn't work out she's going back to a highschool boyfriend because that was the last time she was "loved" but then she hides things from him which can work with a redeeming character however it instead just turned her into this horrible person instead. I didn't like her at all. As for the male main he started off likable and then he lost his likability when he fell back in love with the female main so quickly. Over months maybe this would have made more sense but a month? And during the second anniversary of his wife's death? Unlikely. Especially when he seemingly had a healthy loving relationship with the wife before she died and two years after her death still visits her grave. Extremely unimpressed

I love a book about reconnecting with young love. Just because two people fall in love during their teenage years doesn’t necessarily mean that it wasn’t true, real, and valuable. Sometimes it takes time and life experiences to realize how important that first love was. And hey, a little extra sexual experience can’t hurt – its a great way to hone one’s skills. The length of the book is short but it is not short on character depth. I felt like I really understood the facets of the characters and their struggles. Jake is a hot firefighter that doesn’t want to risk his heart again, even for someone that consumed his head for over a decade. Naomi must fight to get Jake to open himself up to her again. She struggles with his initial rejection, which is a lot to handle after having to deal with the loss of her premie daughter. I plan on reading the other books in the series.

There isn’t much going on in this but it was ok. No surprises. We know what the conflict is going to be right from the beginning. The hero is a firefighter but he never fights a fire or anything. I didn’t appreciate a Chapter about the characters in the next book stuck in right at the critical point in the story. Overall, now that I’m finished I have to say it was kind of boring. No real drama or unexpected twists.
