Wilbert Vere Awdry, OBE, better known as the Rev. W. Awdry, was an English clergyman, railway enthusiast and children's author, and creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, who starred in Awdry's acclaimed Railway Series.
The characters that would make Awdry famous, and the first stories featuring them, were invented in 1943 to amuse his son Christopher during a bout of measles. The first book (The Three Railway Engines) was published in 1945, and by the time Awdry stopped writing in 1972, The Railway Series numbered 26 books. Christopher subsequently added further books to the series.
My son is almost three and loves this book. We had to read it over and over the first night we read it. He loved talking about the silly animals throughout the book and it introduced him to an animal he didn’t know. He knew nothing about seals and now he knows they having a barking sound.

My Review: I picked this one up for Munchkin when he was down with a cold, he love Thomas, loves animals and loves flap books. So this book had it all, except a cohesive story to bring it all together. Rather than bother reading it anymore, he just looks at it and finds the animals. A little of a disappointment but he still has fun looking at it.
Thomas the Train is heading for a new zoo and spots all sorts of animals along the way. Each animal is initially hidden until the reader lifts a flap to reveal what animal is eating the bush, etc.
My daughter is a sucker for books with flaps. This one is no different and features different animals who have escaped from the train on the way to their home at the new zoo. She rated it 5/5.
