Highland Gardens #1

Just Beyond the Garden Gate

Rate this book
The Scottish Highlands—a place where faeries and brownies and other fae creatures dance through time. On occasion, so do mere mortals.

Determined to regain her royal status, a banished faerie princess accepts a challenge from the High-Queen of the Fae to unite an unlikely couple while the clan brownie attempts to thwart her.

Passion ignites when a faerie-shove propels burned-out business consultant Laurie Bernard through the garden gate, back through time, and into the embrace of Patrick MacLachlan. The arrogant clan chief doesn’t know what to make of the lass in his arms, especially when he recognizes the brooch she wears as the one his stepmother wore when she and his father disappeared.

With the fae interfering at every opportunity, the couple must learn to trust one another while they battle an enemy clan, expose a traitor within their midst and discover the true fate of the missing parents. Can they learn the most important truth—love transcends time?

Journey from the lush gardens of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina to the Scottish Highlands of 1509 with Just Beyond the Garden Gate.

What ever you do, do not drop this book. Yes it is a bit slow at the beginning, but it is very important information. Once you get to the past it picks up and is a very wonderful book.

I forget sometimes that I like being whisked away into Faery world and such. I felt it with this book. I love faeries, Fae, Witches an such, as long as they are historical. To see a strong woman, but submissive woman with this dominant man who is all intents and purposes, a chief in all senses of the word. It's hard for her since she has been around a men who is always dominant. Then to be thrown into this world and not feel chaos all around.

He is betrothed, a war with his betroths father if he doesn't marry. Faeries and brownies making mischief, But falling in love with a woman couple centuries older than he instead. How can this book not be good.

Yes she went hurling through time and dropped at his feet. Parents can be the most wonderful people, they don't interfere with your life.... lmao right they don't interfere....

You will love this book. ENDING is Awesome!!!

This debut novel is a must-have for all lovers of Scottish history. The finesse with which the story is told shows that this author has spent time honing her craft and researching the time period. Hamilton’s forte is detailed description. Just Beyond the Garden Gate puts you in the Scottish landscape and customs of that time period. I felt like I was part of the story and that the characters were real. Which, in reality, would be improbable considering that it is a time-travel story full of fae mischief.

Well written and well researched, the hero and heroine were true to the time periods in which they were born. But my favorite character was Munn, the little brownie who, despite his struggles with being good, is at the beck and call of scheming faeries. You just can’t help rooting for him and hoping he doesn’t come to a bad end.

Hamilton’s love for Scottish history and romance gave me a story in which I could escape and believe in magic.

An interesting story

Yes, I enjoyed this book. I did find many similarities with other time-travel stories to medieval Scotland such as the method for provoking the trip through time, the traitorous family member and the involvement of a family member or best friend to continue the series. Notwithstanding, it was a good yarn.

Great

Loved this book of the Highland Gardens series. Patrick and Laurie's story was great. It was very suspenseful, sad and of course it had romance.

I love time travel. I love Scottland and Highlanders. So this book was just for me. I could not believe I won it. I don't win many books. Dawn marie hamilton signed my book. The guy on the cover could be better looking. His chest was great the face not so much. I was not sure about reading about Faeries but it turned out pretty good. I live in North Caroling and have been to the Grandfather Mountain Festival when I was a child.

This book was very good and easy to read. I really enjoyed it. I plain on purchasing the second book and redding it.

Thank you so much for free book

This book deals with historical Scottish warriors one of my favorite reading genres. The added bonus to this book is the time travel which was done amazingly well so one actually steps back and forth in time in an unbelievable seamlessness. I lived in Scotland and am of Scottish descent so I enjoyed her accurate description of the countryside, their customs and speech.

Laurie and Patrick's verbal sparing keeps you on your toes wondering what will become of these two very different people from different times. Ms Hamilton weaves a story of love and intrigue through out this entertaining book.

Loved the story and all the elements contained within. Travel through time, Highlanders and magic, what's not to love? Laurie and Patrick's story has faries and brownies some of them for the couple, others against and it creates a magical tail. My first read of the authors will not be my last. I look forward to her new release in September.

Gate was an entertaining twist on my favorite genre. I love time-travel novels, and this story included faeries and their friends. Their antics enlivened the tale; working at cross-purposes to one another and to the main characters. I received a review copy from the author, and thoroughly enjoyed the story. If you want something a little different, give this book a try!

This was such a good book. The time travel was very interesting but most important, to me anyway, was the hero was such a hunk. Strong and valiant. The magic makes you almost believe in ferries and brownies and that could explain a lot of things. Their lives, however, are not easy. Highly recommend.

An intriguing tale mixing the present and the past, and the lives of those who strive to find a home and an everlasting love in both locations. I enjoyed spending time in Laurie's quaint but modern-day cottage as much as Patrick's remote 16th century Scottish castle. Ms Hamilton's inclusion of magic and plants (a perfect pairing for the title "Just Beyond the Garden Gate") made this story shine.

such a great book. It was funny and romantic and happily ever after. I have to admit the guy on the cover is NOT what I think of when I picture a good looking highland man, but the book was great.

Highland book 1

After a (to me) slow start this turned into a lovely story even though I wished for a different ending in a way, don't get me wrong it's a great ending and I liked it, I just wished it was a different time.
