The children's books Jenny writes and illustrates from her countryside studio are doing well, and after a lifetime of looking after everyone else, she's finally putting herself first. Meanwhile, Maggie 's ordered world is thrown into chaos when her baby son Leo arrives. Candlelit baths have made way for endless night feeds, and she and partner Owen are struggling to find any time for themselves. It's been a long year of financial sacrifice, but working-mum Alison has fulfilled her dream at last - she is now the proud co-owner of a café and art gallery.
But when Alison's happiness is threatened and news from home shocks Jenny back to reality, the women must band together. Suddenly their friendship is more important than ever.
In this digital-exclusive short story, Vanessa Greene revisits the characters we first fell in love with in The Vintage Teacup Club . Appealing to both new and old fans, this is a real treat for anyone who enjoys warm-hearted and sincere storytelling - and it's best enjoyed with a nice cup of tea.
I read The Vintage Teacup Club back in February. Seven months and about fifty books later I found myself running into Tuesdays at the Teacup Club. And you know what? It felt like coming home to old friends. One would expect their personalities to have faded a bit due to time, but it was like I had never said goodbye, or see you later, in the first place. I do believe this says a lot about how skilled Vanessa Greene is.
P.S. I wouldn't mind working with Alison. I absolutely love what she and Jamie have done with the place.
I downloaded to read as soon as I had finished The Vintage Teacup Club. It felt rather like an epilogue of the main book than a story in its own right, and ended a little too abruptly. I'd like to catch up with the characters a few years down the line as I enjoyed meeting them all.
I bought this for my Kindle as a 'daily deal', there was nothing of a 'deal' about it! It was a short story not worth more than the 99p. I will have to be more careful in future, feeling a bit let down.
I had read the first book in this series, and wanted to read the next one as I enjoyed reading about Alison, Jen, and Maggie's adventures. This short story was to the point, as it described how Alison decided on creating a Tuesday night movie gathering at her tea shop, while getting other businesses in the neighbourhood involved. Maggie struggled with raising her son Stan, while jugging her career at the flower shop. Jen dealt with her brother's recent illness, and grapples with whether to tell his girlfriend, Chloe, or not. I enjoyed reading about how the various characters intertwined with one another, and offered support through the difficult times that ensued. I felt as though I was a part of their friendship circle, as they discussed solutions to their various issues. It made me want to open up a tea shop and start my own teacup club!
A lovely little novella catching up with Jenny, Maggie and Alison from the Vintage Teacup Club. This novella has left me wanting more and looking forward to the Christmas book,
"Tea does our fancy aid, Repress those vapours which the head invade, And keeps that palace of the soul serene." - Edmund Waller
To understand this particular story and characters; you will have to read her book "The Vintage Teacup Club"; as this particular short story is the continuation in a short story format of the previous book.
The short story speaks about accomplishments and certain changes that have been occurred and will be occurring in the life of Jenny, Alison and Maggie in the course of one year. Their friendship is as strong as it can be, no matter whatever they are facing through they support each other throughout. It is overall a fun, good time and chilling read. The characters are described beautifully wherein it captures your attention immediately; it makes you think and come back to the characters of this story. I would definitely recommend you to read both the stories.
"If you are cold, tea will warm you; if you are too heated, it will cool you; If you are depressed, it will cheer you; If you are excited, it will calm you." - William Ewart Gladstone
This is a short story sequel to Vanessa Greene's The Vintage Teacup Club. I absolutely adored the first book and the characters of Jenny, Maggie, and Allison. It is a year after the events in the first book.
We now have Jenny getting ready to go on tour as a children's book author. Maggie is still dealing with being a new mother to her son Leo and a partner to Owen. Alison is happy since she is now a co-owner of the cafe and art gallery that her best friend started in the last novel.
I am sad to say that though I loved the first book this short story by Vanessa Greene really did not work for me. I think the problem was that she had three distinct story-lines going on and everything was happening at a breakneck pace. We had Jenny trying to deal with her brother's secret; Maggie trying to keep her sanity due to having a newborn; and Alison worrying about the new coffee house that opened up across the street from her cafe. The three women barely had any scenes together and none of the story-lines were meshed well. I think this should have just been a full fledged novel so that Vanessa Greene could have fully fleshed out everything and not had all of the plots wrap up in a nice tidy bow after 48 pages. I hope that if she revisits these characters in a future novel it is a full length novel so we can get enough time to enjoy all of the characters.
I read this short story today and had to decide whether to give it three or four stars. I went for four because I do love the story lines between these three friends in Charlesworth, England. Maggie is now the mother of sweet little Stan and enjoying life together with Owen. Alison is working side by side with Jamie in Blitz Spirit, a vintage style tea room and Jenny is starting a book tour while also working on her second children's book. And there ends my review of this book or I would reveal too much for anyone wanting to pick it up. If you liked The Vintage Teacup Club, it is a fun and quick catch-up read before book two. Now I have to get that second book so I can really get into life in Charlesworth once again.
It seemed like this really could have been added into the original story maybe as the epilogue. I felt it was a waste of time reading it, as it didn't expand on the storyline at all.
A quick story following the friendships made in the previous book "The vintage teacup club". I liked the book and it finished with me wanting to know more.
