Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.
Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.
Don't mind me, I'm just casually re-reading the entire manga for the 5th time or so because A) it's one of my comfort series and I need all the comfort I can get right now, B) I own the entire thing physically so it's right there, and C) everyone is talking about fall/ Halloween reads and SE fits that to a T.
Gonna give all the volumes 5 stars as a default. There's plenty I could complain about if I wanted, namely the unnecessary fanservice/ weird sexualization of teen characters, but I'm not gonna do that right now. It pops up rarely enough that I can just pretend it doesn't exist.
Anything and everything else that happens in this book is secondary to that last chapter. Crona has officially lost his marbles and goes on a killing rampage. His latest victim was completely surprising to me and I wonder if it'll be a permanent death. I really need Crona to reunite with Maka so he can either be killed or redeemed. I'm hoping for a happy ending but I'm not holding my breath.
Eibon revives angry The school receives bears body but he’s still alive Corona goes to fight random sychte users that Medusa has told them to attack Corona leaves balls of madness Maka and soul go to exterminate them but soul gets infected by the black blood Stein fights him to protect everyone Maka and Kim use their soul to help Soul comes back and Maka yells at him Bear and Justin fight once again Bear dies and Justin is half alive We see corona with Medusa and corona learns different ways to kill And kills Medusa Maka and star goes to help catch a whale beast Maka notices that madness becomes thick the higher you go

Soul Eater, Vol. 20 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next six chapters (82–87) of the on-going manga series.
Shinigami reunites with his son, Death the Kid – it is also the time for another step in the Index's plan. Death the Kid confesses to his father that the Noah he fought wasn't really human at all, because he was the personification of Greed. The Index wants to teach through the power of knowledge, but according to Shinigami, this power can create another form of madness, and so the Index creates another Noah with the personification of Wrath.
Meanwhile, Maka Albarn and Soul Evans are called to Moscow, as Crona has been found murdering Tsar Pushka, the death scythe in charge of Eastern Europe, and his partner with the power of mad blood. Feeling the power of madness, Soul Evans' wound opens up, awakes his true power, and loses his own reason against Maka Albarn. Inside his soul, the little ogre tries again to submit him to the power of madness but Soul Evans still refuses and finds his own self back.
At the same time, Crona keeps murdering people with the power of mad blood under Medusa's orders. In a moment of mother-child relationship, Crona loses himself and ends up stabbing Medusa. Meanwhile, Justin is found by Tezca Tlipoca and seems to have found out where the Kishin is hidden. Tezca tries to reason with Justin about what's right and wrong, but is eventually killed by him.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Atsushi Ōkubo. The tankōbon splits into two storylines: Death the Kid and his connection to The Index from the Book of Eibon, who has its own plans with the young shinigami. Meanwhile, Maka Albarn with her partner Soul Evans heads to Moscow, to stop Crona with the power of mad blood from causing more damage – as Crona has already killed a Russian Tsar.
All in all, Soul Eater, Vol. 20 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.
So turns out tezca didn't die at the battle but fooled everyone into thinking that since he wanted to find Justin and try to bring him back to the good side. It unfortunately goes wrong and he ends up dead for real but not before burning half of Justin's face so he kinda has a Harvey two face thing going on. Gross.
Crona got sent to Moscow and Ukraine to do some tests with the black blood and it's horrifying. So kim, jackie, soul, Maka and Stein are dispatched to see if they can find crona and soul accidently goes mad. It was cute when Kim and Maka hugged Stein to get him to calm him down from the madness vibes soul was letting out through his soul. The other Russians in the branch got a bit jealous that the girls were hugging Stein.
Crona goes through her own fit of violent madness when Medusa starts being nice and loving to her. So crona, not being able to handle it, destroys her body through various ways and I'm just wondering if that was the plan all along. Guess I'll find out in.....
THE NEXT BOOK!

Was holding off to read the last 6 volumes for Halloween this and I was not disappointed! Last volume, we had Noah and the Bear head (that's what I call him), and Giriko all die anticlimactic. It was a wet blanket on what I considered a very creative volume with the deadly sins Book. Leave it to this author to have twists up his sleeves again! Turns out Noah is just a manifestation of the book and the bear had to fake his death! Soul Eater looked cool as ever going evil with a peak into his coolness as a facade to not fail. Great insight. I finally became a fan of bear as he tried to save his friends, tears flowed as I got attached to him in time to see his head detach from him. Medusa's actual death was poetic and fit so well to the theme. God, I wish they made this into an anime instead of the ending we got!!

This volume steps up to the plate with five stars because of the last chapter. Although there are no new epic combats in this volume--we do see what appears to be the end of the battle between Tezca and Justin, but that feels tangential with none of the Spartoi involved--it still feels like things are building to a head, and that there is bound to be some really dark stuff coming up that finishes off the series. I'm really excited to see where it goes.
But it's the final chapter of the volume, a dark-as-pitch Crona and Medusa chapter at the end of the volume that thrusts this one over the top. Horrifying and truly twistedly powerful this is probably the best chapter of the entire series in my opinion. WOW!
Damn, this was so good and gory. I was really impressed at how this volume matured the story even more. Also, the character exploration in Soul was great and I loved all the fight scenes in this one.
So a lot to unpack in this volume with Justin vs Tezca which as a pretty cool fight with some interesting takes on what a Mirror can do. Kid finally finding Eibon which has been built up and I do like that plot point as it should lead to some really good world building also it's location was pretty clever and a nice call back. Finally we get some resolution on Medusa and it ended in a way that I was not expecting. Also good to finally meet more of the Death Scythes and seeing how they fight granted wished we would have gotten more on Tsar as what get is just from a short fight.
Just like the previous manga this one was very good. As I mentioned before I like the character of Crona. However, she is more and more affected by madness. Let's say the end is pretty surprising, I'm still in shock.
Whoa, another good one! This volume really took me off guard with a lot of the content. We really get some good character exploration, both with Soul and Crona. Also, seeing Stein fight with Maka, Kim, and Jacqueline was awesome. The only thing that stopped this from being five stars for me was the Justin Law fight. I'm just not a huge fan of him. *shrugs* But that ending! Holy cow! I don't think I'm ready for this series to end.
Well, things got exceptionally dark in this one. That last chapter gave me chills. Mostly because I guessed that’s where Crona was headed towards. But to think it was actually part of Medusa’s plan? Uff, hardcore.
Also, lots of interesting commentaries made in this volume about madness, gods and their worship. As well as some other stuff.
Plus, Soul handling the madness inside of him was great stuff.
Soul angst! The fight is quality, and the keyboard scythe is sick and I love it, but naturally we move right past it without talking about it lmao (next volume hopefully!). Oh and Stein realizes that just maybe Maka's powers were boosted in combination with Soul's lmao (thank god SHE knew that, not sure how Stein didn't). Like the last volume, it's all fantastic and intense (I just wish Soul got more attention and concern 😮💨).

Pitié le traitement horrible que Médusa à infligé à Crona et le fait qu'elle a sombré dans la folie à cause de tout ça alors que c'était juste une fille qui voulait de l'amour.. Faîtes que Maka la sauve 🙏🏾

Pretty awesome series, I love most of the main characters! The story’s alright but still very enjoyable tho I think I prefer the anime much more😁👌⚔️📖❤️
We get to meet some Russian meisters who are interesting. Crona's black-blood abilities are expanding. There seems to be a resolution between Crona and Medusa. And some other good stuff. Not bad.
