Spells for Tough Times is an encyclopedia or guide that helps the reader use magick to solve life problems. This book is for those who are lost or have exhausted every resource. Spells for Tough Times is divided into personal, family, health, financial and death. A problem can be as simple as outgrowing friends to serious ones like dealing with a terminal disease. I think this is a great book to have on hand just in case. I'm not married and I don't have any kids, so many of the spells in the book are of no use to me. Hopefully I won't have to use them in the future. I think this book is very unique. I applaud the writer for creating it.
Edit: After 3 years this book has come in very handy with dealing with life's problems. There are some great spells to protect the home and pets. I have used some of the spells inside this book every year we have moved to find an apartment and when dealing with difficult people.
Great book. I really appreciated how the author stressed to seek help from "the mundane world" as well as utilizing the spells in this book. The incredients all appear to be readily obtained. I am definitely purchasing a printed copy of this when released.
It was helpful for general ideas, but the approach the author took towards creating spells is different than mine. I also use my spells to contemplate avenues of approach whereas she seemed mainly like she knew what she wanted out of each spell.
Connor did what few people in the world of the Craft have done: they created a book about all of those little things that tend to get in our way while we're trying to live our lives. This book is very practical and very down to earth. Connor also explains in the Introduction, that the best way and the first thing we should do when presented with a crisis is to deal with it in the real world before trying to deal with it metaphysically.
I really liked this book. I felt that there were real world practical solutions to real world problems. There are a lot of spells out there that are about generalized topics like love and money or protection, but they don't really scrape the surface and deal with problems that are more specific.
Another thing I liked about Connor's writing is how she lets you know in the beginning that the spells can be personalized if you don't feel like they would work for you. The supplies that are needed are few, are easy to get a hold of and once again, if you don't have them, she lets you know that it's not a problem. Work with what you have.
A very practical and very helpful addition to any practitioners library.
Not much of a book for reading -- more like a cookbook for spells. That's ok. It's too bad that there are no practical recipes for addiction, and indeed from reading the introductions to the two spells dealing obliquely with the addictions of others, it's very clear that the author does not understand addiction at even the most rudimentary level, and is even a bit of a prat on the subject.
What a waste of money. Good thing Amazon has such a great return policy. There was nothing in this book that was relate able or couldn't be found already more eloquently put in another book.
