Perfect Timing #2

A Long Time Coming

Rate this book
Abigail Orson has a problem. A love problem to be precise; and she has absolutely no idea how to go about fixing it.

For years now, she has been chasing her best friend’s brother—demanding things from him that he’s never wanted to give. For one? A real relationship that surpasses well beyond that dreaded ‘just friends’ zone. You see, David Anderson is her idea of perfection to a T. The one and only guy who has ever had the ability to make her heart beat faster; make her toes curl with the simple blink of his long, girly lashes. But David is also a recovering amputee, and the only thing he really wants from Abigail is to be left alone. Abigail is a fighter though, and losing the one guy who has ruined her for every other is no longer an option.

A guy with one leg who has lost his motivation to live—to love—to actually be a man. David believes he’s a waste of space. If only the beautiful girl of his unattainable dreams would get that through her perfect, blonde, stubborn head! He’s not the right guy for Abigail. He’ll never be worthy of what she deserves. However, staying away is almost impossible, especially when he’s just as in love with her as she is with him. But Abigail has a life ahead of her, one that’s definitely livable without a nineteen–year–old gimp like him holding her down. What makes her want to stick around is beyond questionable to David’s mind.

Choices will be made. Lines will be drawn. And together, they will face challenges that nobody saw coming. David and Abigail may have had almost fourteen years to fall in love, but the thing is, timing and love have never exactly worked in their favor.

It has been years in the making, and definitely A Long Time Coming for David and Abigail. Let’s hope they don’t screw it up before they actually have the chance to get it right…

Before we start, you need to listen to this song: All of You by John Legend. This song is PERFECT! Okay, now on to my review.

A Long Time Coming is a great read! A push-pull relationship, A Long Time Coming ensures you a nice roller coaster of emotions….have a glass of wine and box of tissues handy ;)

Abigail: Stubborn, honest, strong and completely in love with her best friends twin brother. Oh, she’s also a great gal.

David: Stubborn, hot, stubborn, strong-willed ( needed a different word), STUBBORN (incase you missed it the first time), sweet and swoon worthy.

Abigail is the girl next door, David’s twin sister’s best friend and both are head-over-heels in love with the other. One unforgettable night of passion changes their lives…forever. David lost his leg in a hurried attempt to save his twin sister…that night changed him. His life will never be the same.

Close but still too far away explains these two perfectly. I yelled at the screen, begging them to open up and express how they felt to the other. UGH! Did I say David was a stubborn ass? Well, Abigail isn’t much better (making them a perfect pair) and her secret blows David’s stubbornness out of the water. However, the amazing author raises the element of emotion even higher…David’s mom. OH. My. Goodness. I lost it. Yup, I cried like a dang baby.

Finally, bruised egos are mended and passion ensues (about damn time, right). Scorching, sensual and perfect bliss follows…enter my glass of wine…okay, it was near a bottle ;) Just when you think the ride of emotion is over, the author pushes the envelope further and your heart aches. Then you scream, “how much more shit can these two take?” *sigh*

The end

Just kidding Lessons are learned and life changes for everyone. David’s and Abigail’s long time coming finishes perfectly.

The End (for real)

Love it! The end, THANK YOU!

No no really, I did. This book was sweet. It was heartbreaking. It was real. It was fresh. It made me laugh and cry. I adored it.
David was the dream come true. He had baggage and he had a darkness about him. Over and over I chanted you are enough. You are good! See yourself the way we see you.

Abigail was caring. She was fierce. She was smart and sassy. She was insecure. She was perfect.

"Because she knew that tears had the ability to clear the pain away. They are like little bars of soap for the soul."

These two broke me in a million tiny pieces and made me whole again.
This one hit me in the gut. It clings to your heart. I had good tears, ugly tears and laughter.

"A face of an angel-that's what Abigail looked like under the neon lights of the club. His angel in the darkness, shedding the only brightness he'd known since the day he lost his leg. "Help me," he whispered, meaning it more in the sense than just helping him stand up. He meant it a way that said I NEED YOU TO HELP ME LIVE AGAIN. He just prayed that she understood. He could take it anymore. He needed a friend. He needed his Abigail... And he was finally .. finally ready to admit it. "

This book is about second chances. It's realizing that sometimes your dreams do come true just maybe a different way.
Life happens in the blink of an eye and this one makes you think. Maybe your not the football star. Maybe life just sometimes deals you a bad hand. How do you deal with that? How do you go on?
So young and so many obstacles.

David is someone you want to get to know. Abigail is the friend you need in your life. Then add the supporting cast.. Wow! David's Twin. Her boyfriend.. Loving parents.. Parental dysfunction. Holy hell!

I want to tell you so much. However I refuse. It must be read.

Do David and Abigail figure it out? Can you really get your happily ever after when you feel like life is falling apart?
Read this book. Take this journey with them. Bravo! This book could be a stand alone. Although I say read everything she writes. Oh oh and the epilogue! Swooning...

Review of A Long Time Coming (Perfect Timing #2) by Heather Van Fleet

Review done for Hooked on Books & CherryOBlossoms Promotions

3 ½ out of 5 stars

David Anderson feels like half a man since he lost the bottom half of his leg in a car accident. He is in constant pain and has seizures and constant headaches. He is quite discouraged about his future and can’t help but take his feelings out on everyone else.

David has been in love with Abigail Orson for years. After they spend a drunken night together he pushes her away. He isn’t the man she deserves so he is going to let her go.

Abigail is so in love with David Anderson she can’t focus on anything else. She is bound and determined to show him that he is the same guy she fell in love with and more.

More tragedy than a person should have to endure, causes stresses between them that they are not sure they can overcome. Abigail has major family secrets that have come to light and someone in David’s family has a deadly health concern.

I really enjoyed this book once I got past the 50% mark. Up until then it was pretty slow moving. I really liked the characters and loved that the male wasn’t perfect. David was still hot and sweet.

Once everything started to come together it was a pretty good book. If you can stick it out until the end, you will enjoy it!

A Long Time Coming is the second in the Prefect Timing series. The first in the series is When It's Least Expected. That on is Harley and Mason's story. A Long Time Coming is David and Abagail's story. David is Harley's brother and Harley is Abigail's best friend. The characters are in both books. I have not read the first book and was not lost reading this one. I was told that had I read the first I would have been begging for this story.

Wow this story was amazing. David and Abigail are both 19 but they have been through so much in their lives. Abigail has always loved David. David was in a car accident that caused him to lose his leg and have a mild brain injury. This really hit home with me because I have a child who lost her leg and suffered a brain injury in an accident. Heather Van Fleet did a wonderful job with the whole discussion about the phantom leg pains and the uncomfortable prosthetic leg. David has to over come feeling that he isn't good enough for Abigail. Their road to a happy relationship is very bumpy and they have many obstacles to over come.

It's a very emotional read. When reading it you may want to have tissues near by, just in case.

But the accident happen, and the old friendship, and an almost budding relationship came to a halt when David started to change the moment he lost his leg – it didn’t mean though, that she loved him any less.

She didn’t care that David has lost one of his legs, or that he was always cranky, or he has any more baggage than the next flight home – all she wanted was to be with him. Life takes a funny curve, and she ended up with a big problem… and she didn’t know how to start solving it without involving HIM.

I wanted the both of them to be together since I have read Mason and Harley’s story – I just knew that no matter how David resist her, the both of them were meant to be together. No one could love him as much as Abigail does. Now if only he sees through his insecurities and realize that she wanted nothing else but his love, then everything would be fine.

But with all the insecurities eating him, not to mention all those perfect boys surrounding Abigail, David thinks he’s too broken for her. Good thing that Abigail is a fighter, and would DO everything to prove to him he’s all she need, especially RIGHT NOW.

On the other hand, their love life wasn’t only the problem, just as when everything seems perfect, fate throws them fatal blows that I even didn’t see coming. Their love, friendship and relationship is tested. It may have took them almost a lifetime to find a way into each other – but it seems fate has other things in mind.

It might have been a long time coming, but David and Abigail made sure it is worth our while as they fight together for their love, their family, their relationship and their lives.

My expectations were met, and I have never been more in love with David or more in awe of Abigail as I am today after reading the novel. It may have taken them a long time, and I might have wonder at times if both of them could really make it together – but nevertheless, IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT. Because in the end, Heather Van Fleet made a great story about two amazing characters who were meant to be together since the start, and have endured, and got through the bleakest and most challenging times of their lives – stronger than before.

A Long Time Coming (Perfect Timing #2) by Heather Van Fleet

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in the Perfect Timing series but can be read as a standalone. This story follows the young romance of Abigail and David. Abigail has spent years yearning for her best friend’s brother, all the while keeping up her tough girl façade. David was the star football player until an accident made all of his dreams come crashing down. After the loss of his leg, David sinks into a depression with the loss of any hope of Abigail or his dream of playing football for Nebraska. Follow the two as they battle with their own issues, as well as family issues in a battle to find their own love.
The author does a great job of the dual point of view of both main characters after recently graduating high school. So much so that at times I thought I was hearing my own teen speak to me! The romance between the two is a slow build and frustrating at times, but you won’t be disappointed in the results. Other than some moderate love scenes, nothing too graphic, and the language I would consider this a YA/NA read. I did laugh several times; I could play a drinking game based on how many times a character used a certain phrase. Not only did I laugh I will admit there were tears, any author that can do both has a real talent.
While I had a hard time getting started this book is sure to please readers, I hit an OMG moment early on and from that point on it was a quick page turner. Thanks to Heather for the opportunity to review the book and I look forward to more from her!

Solid 3.5 for me. I can't wait to see what the author does next.

I really enjoyed Perfect Timing #1, so obviously, I wanted to continue on with the series! The characters in A Long Time Coming are the same characters (plus a few extra friends that we meet) from book 1. That made me happy because I wanted to see more of them!

I have to admit that I just didn't like David at all until I hit around the 55% mark through the story. He was too broody and depressed for me. Not attractive at all... I ADORE Abs though. Plus, seeing Mason & Harley a bit through the story made me happy (even though the circumstances were not pleasant).

Overall, I felt like the feel of the novel was so much more negative and pessimistic than the first novel in the series. I had a rough time flipping pages here and there because (after one revelation in particular) I kept thinking, "Jeeeezzzzze, what else is going to happen to these poor people." >_<

I did love the ending and the epilogue. <3

I was given an ARC for an honest review

I have been a fan of Heather's for a LONG time and this books felt like A Long Time Coming for me.No Pun intended.I have been waiting to read about David and Abigail. This story knocked everything out of the ballpark. I have been saying how amazing Heather's work is for quite awhile and I will continue to say it.Her writing is on par with some of very well known writers out there.Im NOT posting anything about the story like I usually do as I do not want to be that person that may or may not have given spoilers out.Suffice it to say you WANT to read this one.I would suggest reading When Its Least Expected first because well its just as awesome and well its just needed if you want to know more about Davids sister.Heather makes it so easy to write reviews with her work never failing to send me over the edge of book bliss.I HIGHLY recommend this and all of Heather's books.

Abby, that girl can see past David's BS, "messing with your head? You call trying to get your a** up and out of here and home, messing with your head? You're delusional, David." And she knows how to tell strangers to get lost, that feisty little thing, "listen pal, I don't know who you think you are, but my special little dances have to be earned by my boyfriend and my boyfriend alone, not creepy skinny guys who can't seem to keep their di**s from doing all the thinking for them." And David he takes no BS from other men trying to take his girl away, "nobody talks about my girl like that." Damn the leg, damn his worthless life, this girl belonged to him, and nobody else." Sometimes it's Abby who has to make sure David sees that not everything is about him and his parts, "good, because it's my hoo-ha getting worked on here, not your penis, you get it?" I really hope JT gets a story I fell in love with him just as much as I fell in love with David.

What a thoroughly lovely this story was. I've not read any books from this author before so this was a great surprise for me.
Abigail has loved her best friends brother, David for as long as she can remember. This is Abigail & David's story of how they cope with what life throws in their path.
I sat down & read this from start to finish. This author did a fantastic job of keeping my attention all the way through.

A Long Time Coming is the second book of the Perfect Timing series by Heather Van Fleet. True to the series the storyline and the characters are entertaining and enjoyable.

David Anderson is the dark brooding amputee that hasn't gotten over his accident that occurred two years prior to the main storyline. He has loved his twin sister's best friend, Abigail Orson, his entire life but the timing was never right. He considers himself half a man and won't allow himself to be with Abigail feeling she deserves better. However, the beautiful and sassy Abigail has a differing stance. The storyline begins by taking us through Abigail's chase.

A Long Time Coming is truly an emotional book from beginning to end. Van Fleet adds various challenges or tragedies through illness, accidents and/or life situations. Every chapter is filled with one conflict or another. It's so action packed, I question the plausibility; but it's still an entertaining and spellbinding read.

Van Fleet also keeps Harley and Mason, from the first book of the series, prominent and plausible in the storyline. It was refreshing to see their continued developed.

As with the previous book, the storyline and character development were 4 star worthy; however, there were frequent editing errors which brought the rating down.

There hasn't been a hint regarding future books; however, Van Fleet did a great job including a strong supporting cast of characters for the perfect opportunity to continue the series. I am hopeful for more.

A Long Time Coming holds true to the title. This is the second book in the Perfect Timing Series and we were introduced to David and Abigail in When It’s Least Expected. Now the author is giving us the story of two young adults, both with dreams and desires, along with the heart breaks that life has planned for them. Be prepared to laugh at times and sob ugly tears while you see how they will end up after a bumpy ride.
For the 19 year olds, Abigail dreams of being with David, while David wants her plus a football career. The plans were destroyed after a life changing event leaving David handicapped and emotionally damaged. Abigail lost as to how to help David has to make a choice. How strong is she really going to be in the face of David’s pain and recovery? She is going to have to depend on her sassy attitude and determination to bring David out of the dark tunnel he finds himself in.
The author gives us both POV and did a great job at keeping it true to how 19 year olds would talk and act. Their love was slow to build in actions but was clear their hearts needed to be bonded together. Along with the first book, the author gives us a well-developed story line and characters that makes it easy for the readers to invest their time and hearts. This could be a stand-alone book but I would highly recommend that you read the series.

I just can't stop thinking that maybe I started this book in the wrong time because it took me forever to read and it got me the impression of dragging... Idk if it was due to that but I feel like I may I've liked it better if I didn't want to read so many books at once when I started this one.
It has an amazing storyline and a great message behind it. Super romantic.
I couldn't connect with the characters but I liked them, and I really don't enjoy 3rd person (but that's just my personal taste)... It was good though.

My how I loved this book, I had been waiting and waiting and it did not disappoint, I was totally and utterly swooning for David, with troubles as deep as they were he is still in with the rest of my book boyfriends.
Abigail is just a gorgeous character and I have to say one of my fave female lead characters this year, she is soft yet tough and the amount of crap David has laid on he I don't know how she stayed, but thats what love is and this is why I love this book it shows the depth of love and the way Abbi stands strong for the man she loves.

Ms Van Fleet as written characters that you want to get to know more about and you become invested in their character.

The story line flowed perfectly and was different to the other NA's I have read, its sweet yet sexy and it is a total must read!!!

5 Stars!!!

I love the way Heather incorporates descriptive phrases and analogies. She had me giggling at the characters' sarcasm and banter. Heather weaves a story full of tragedy and love than spans from David and Abigail's childhood into adulthood. A relationship destine to be forever stemmed from a friendship that will prove to either break them or make them. One tragic event during their high school years leaves David broken and Abigail at loss. David pushed everyone away including her,so now she must chose if she can get on with her life without him or fight like hell to reach him in his state of self-pity and worthlessness. But fate throws the a few curve balls that neither expected or planned. Can they find each other again in the midst of the storm and hold on to dear life in hope there is sunshine on the horizon?

I struggled a bit to completely suspend my disbelief in this book. It reads more like a dramatic sitcom than a book. So many awful things happen to these two people in this one book that I struggled to buy it. It felt like I was reading 4 seasons of One Tree Hill in a single volume.

That being said, I still felt like the characters were well portrayed and the dialogue was solid. A quick read, but I think I would have liked it had all of the catastrophes been whittled down to maybe 2 main points of conflict instead of the 5 or 6.

I’ve been desperate to find this book, and when I finally got this!! I’m so disappointed :( the synopsis got me really intrigued and eager to find this (I don’t know why I really like a story with imperfect man)...

I think the book start off pretty well, it just that after you reach the middle part it gets really boring... Trust me, I’ve tried to finish this since I thought “I finally got this book after a long search so I NEED to finish this” but I couldn’t...

I think there are better books out there than this, but you could always give it a try!!
