Leon Arnaud is a French werewolf on a mission in America. Unlike most of his kind, he cannot sit idly back and watch humans commit one of the vilest atrocities he’s ever seen: slavery. With wealth and connections at his disposal, he arrives in Louisiana with one purpose and one purpose only: to free as many slaves as possible. His mission is upended when he finds not only slaves on his newly acquired plantation, but one of his own kind, a female werewolf.

A slave, Penny has never met a white man who does not think her beneath him. Her new master is an anomaly. Not only does he does he treat her as an equal, but he’s like her: able to change forms, taking that of a wolf whenever he chooses. From Leon, Penny learns that what she’s previously dismissed as a curse is her true nature. As he teaches her how to control her bodies—wolf and human both—and use her powers, the attraction between them grows, quickly becoming undeniable.

Can their love survive on a plantation in the slave-holding South?

Colorblind is a tale of love in adversity, of two souls defying the odds to be together.

I just finished reading Colorblind by Violette Dubrinsky It was COMPLETELY AWESOME! Leon's sexy ass was completely enamored with Penny. And the love scenes were on point - *fans self* I love historical novels! Plus this was also a shifter story which I also love. Violette, I love both Penny/Leon's and Julia/Armand's stories. I especially loved the epilogue!
Thanks for all the research you did and the historical accuracy. This history teacher appreciates it. Btw...Penny is Freaking Fierce!

This story made me nervous but I always get that way when I read a story about slavery. The fact that Penny was slave who had the strength that she did made the story that much better. I liked the way the author told the tale of Penny and Leon , it was exciting , and scary, very sexy, and cute at the end I really enjoyed the fact the story characters were involved in the modern day tale of Cedar Creak. I enjoyed reading this story and I am looking forward to the next book by Violette.

I really enjoyed the love story of Leon and Penny. The fact that she was born a slave and a werewolf made it a very interesting I/R romance to read. Leon's hate for slavery gave the story more bite and to what ends he is willing to go to protect his mate for life and do what he knows is right. The story really makes you feel for Penny and all the other slaves in the story and the lifestyle they had to endure in order to survive. Leon and his brothers were the kind of men any women would love to have as their protector. There is a secondary love story in this story, you will cheer for them as much as you will for Leon and Penny. You may shed a few tears over the lovers in this heartfelt romance.! Read this story and you will see why love is Colorblind.!!

First I need to say that I did not mean to pick this type of book to read. I have never been a fan of paranormal. Well Violette Dubrinsky, has made me eat my words. Never say never.

This book was so good. Leon, a French werewolf, who has wealth and connections arrives in Louisiana with one purpose: to free as many slaves as he can. During his mission he finds not only slaves but one of his own kind – Penny, who is a southern slave and a werewolf. The story takes place in the year of 1851.

Once Leon meets her, he teaches her how to control her bodies, both werewolf and human. Leon also teaches Penny how to use her powers. The attraction between Leon and Penny is undeniable and grows strongly.

The storyline in this book was excellent. Colorblind takes you back in history with a story of epic love with a twist of paranormal. The descriptions of the plantation and the description of how the slaves were treated was written well and detailed. There are parts that I didn’t want to read ( whipping of slave), but it is history and did happen. The storyline tells of the good and the bad. The story line has a excellent mixture of history and erotica, and the plot was great.

The characters are well rounded, developed and believable.

Colorblind is a tale of love in adversity, of two souls defying the odds to be together. A love story between two wolves that were under some strained circumstances. The author did an excellent job in capturing the time period of slavery. If you are a fan of paranormal, which I think I now am (smile), you will love this book.

Thank you Author Violette Dubrinsky for a wonderful, well-written story.

Before I started reading this book I was already excited because I had read the first one and couldn't wait to see what Ms. Dubrinsky had in store for me. It was a good read. There were times when I cringed at the language that was being tossed around but I had to keep in mind the setting was in the 1800's ad allowed the issue to brush by. Towards the ending I started getting irritated because the characters had went through a lot already yet there was one more big bang that set me off. Overall it was a good read and I can't wait to see what Ms. Dubrinsky has in store next for her readers.

First of all, I am a huge fan of Violette Dubrinsky’s work; I read “Taken by the Moon” and I was instantly hooked. Violette writes Interracial Romance books-with the main heroines being Black and female. Being a Black female myself, I am naturally able to relate to her characters. In this book, she writes about Leon Arnaud (a French werewolf) and Penny (a southern slave and werewolf) in 1851. These two characters also made a cameo in “Taken by the Moon,” and this book looks back at the couple’s journey to be together.
My first thought was “…it sounds like a Historical Romance, and I don’t do those…” I enjoy reading Contemporary Romance, but this book really surprised me. Not to give away the book, but the author was very detailed in explaining Leon’s role in the South and how the werewolves stand on the issue of slavery.

“I got a brother and sister I ain’t never gon’ see gain ‘cause o’ you! You touch’ er and you ain’t gon’ use that arm’ gain!”.

Surprisingly, Penny is aware she is different but does not know her true race. With her parents being gone, she grows up as a slave when her life should have been so much different. But you will have to read the book to find out what I am talking about. Reading the dialogue that all the characters had, I really felt I was in 1851 looking in on a story being told. I am not going to lie, there were times I cringed when there were bad things happening to the slaves. But don’t get me wrong, it is not throughout the book; it is necessary in order to describe the atmosphere of the times. The cringe moments still didn’t make me want to put the book down… no, it made want to know what happens next because I knew, or I hoped, there was a happy ending to this book.

“Penny, I would cut off my own arm and leg before I would see any harm come to you.”

“You showed me… Happiness.”

You see, there are some really touching moments and even during 1851 the same type of love that exists today was going on then. In this day and age we have changed in the United States drastically. It is not perfect – no place on this planet is – but this book is really just a love story between two wolves that were under some strained circumstances.

I give this book infinity stars !!!!!!

This book was absolutely amazing and It was as good as the first. Rarely do you see a sequel live up the sheer awesomeness of the debut but Colorblind achieved that. The best part is they you don't have to read the first book to read the second because It can be read as a stand alone.

Leon, a wealthy French werewolf, arrives in Louisiana undercover to help to free as many slaves as he can. During his mission and stay at his plantation, he finds not only slaves but one of his own kind- a werewolf, Penny, who is a southern slave and turns out to be his mate. The story takes place in the year of 1851.

Leon was intrigued by the spunky, feisty Penny who never allowed her slave status get her down. She never cowered to any master and once Leon sees her and discovers she's a werewolf, he's intrigued and decides to teach her how to control her transformation and use her abilities. We automatically see the attraction between Leon and Penny and as the story progresses, it only grew stronger.

I loved the timeline because Colorblind takes you back in history with a story of epic love and a twist of paranormal. Set at a time of racial prejudice and slavery, it was absolutely taboo for Leon and Penny to love each other as equals without her submitting to him. The descriptions of the plantation and the description of how the slaves were treated was top notch and accurate without any flaws. The story was excellent mixture of history and erotica and the characters are well rounded, sympathetic, developed and believable.

Colorblind is a tale of love in adversity, because Penny and Leon defied the odds and society's convention to be together. Also a love story between two wolves that were under strained circumstances. They really had a Romeo and Juliet kind of feel because of their forbidden love and I absolutely devoured it on one sitting.

An absolute must read for romance and paranormal fans.

This was a very interesting take on the werewolf genre. This came highly recommended. I really enjoyed the first half of the story. I love how Leon scented a were among the slaves. I like that Penny did not know what she was and Leon had to teach her. I loved their first true coupling and especially loved when they switched to their wolf forms. That was hot and different. I also loved when Penny got jealous and ravaged Leon and bit him to show that she was claiming him as hers as well.

I love sex in a book but there has to be that careful balance. This book had too much sex and it took away from the plot at times. Past the halfway mark, I felt myself skimming over the sex scenes. And when we finally get to Penny being in heat, it wasn't anything special because they'd had so much sex already.

I really liked Julia and love how she came around to trusting Armand. Those spoiler questions cost the book a star.

I was intrigued by the character of Abigail. I would have liked to know more about how she came to her philosophy on slavery. What was the point of having a witch in the mix? What ever happened to this witch? What happened to Aisha? In the epilogue it would have been nice if we found out what happened to the slaves that were left on the plantation. Maybe Leon gifted them to Abigail?

Do you see how many questions I have? That's why the 3 star rating. I did enjoy this novel. It was unlike anything I've read before in this genre.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel! I have never read one like it. I am saddened that it seems more like it don't exist. If anyone knows of more like it please do share! It was such a treat. I loved how feisty and strong Penny was given her circumstances. The relationships between the characters were very well developed, and enjoyable. I was quit impressed with how much depth and content the author was able to fit into this story. I wish there was more to come.

This story had a lot of dimensions to it and I loved the buried stories of the characters in between. The author did great with some a touchy and controversial subject. I couldn't put the book down and was saddened to have finished it.

The story makes you go through an array of emotions and it is quite steamy. Definitely a great worthwhile read without giving anything away.

Colorblind by Violette Dubrinsky is book II in her Moonlight Saga Series. We meet Leon Arnaud briefly in the first book. His main story takes place in the past. He migrated to America in order to help free slaves. On his plantation, he encounters Penny , an enslaved young woman, who he also recognizes as his mate. Together, they work to lead others to freedom, while hiding their true nature and their true relationship. This book is lovely and lyrical. Like the first story, I want to find out what happened to the secondary characters, especially Leon's brothers.

Deeply moving and sexy. A truly enjoyable book. My heart ached for the slaves and what they had to endure because of the color of their skin. Leon and Penny despite adversity were able to love each other. I appreciated how strong the characters were. This book was beautifully written, it displayed the hardships of those times and the strong will the African Americans had to survive. Threw it all the characters were able to find love despite their racial differences.

4 stars. This paranormal historical novel set in 1851 Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was a gem of a find for one who has read tons of 'traditional' historical novels. The author told a great love story via the protagonists, Leon Arnaud a plantation owning abolitionist werewolf and Penny a field slave and werewolf. I hope the author will write more stories featuring these brothers: Armand Arnaud and Etienne Arnaud with Jolie.

Really good

I really like this author and finished the book in a matter of hours. I don't write many reviews and I try to keep them short and sweet. I really loved this story. Violette didn't shy away from the horrible things slaves endured to make this a sweet romance but wrote it subtly as this was life at this time. It wasn't a commentary on the horrors of slavery but slavery was an integral part of the story.

I really enjoyed this one. The writing, the story and the connection between Penny and Leon made it hard for me to put this book down!

Penny was definitely my favorite character - she was assertive, tough and could hold her own against the villains in this book. I can't wait to continue on with the series.

Hopefully we will hear more from these characters in subsequent books.

I thought this book was really great right up until the near end when something happened that was, in my opinion, just unnecessary. Without any spoilers, I will just say it ruined the book for me. I didn't realize that this was a sequel until I started searching for other books by the author. I think the author is very talented but I was extremely disappointed.

There have been a few books from Violette Dubrinsky that have been recommended to me that I have had no interest in at all because of the setting. This book I have been passing over for a while.
