Three women embark on a month-long “discovery” journey and uncover quite a few tidbits along the way…one bottle of Clairol Midnight will not cover a full head of red hair, and never talk to men wearing polyester pants hiked up with a tan belt. But most of what they unearth is about themselves—who they are, what they really want, what they really don’t want. The center of controversy is a Maid-for-You mixer, which symbolizes a boring, routine suburban life with no second chances—then along comes insight in the form of Tula Rae, a sixty-something salsa-dancing, Dalai Lama-quoting, four-time widow in Spandex and a gray braid who gives them a different perspective on life, love, do-overs, and the real reason a man buys his woman a Maid-for-You mixer, which she says is all about S-E-X.

Mary Campisi is the author of over 40 emotion-packed novels that center around hope, redemption, and second chances.
Mary should have known she'd become a writer when at age thirteen she began changing the ending to all the books she read. It took several years and a number of jobs, including registered nurse, receptionist in a swanky hair salon, accounts payable clerk, and practice manager in an OB/GYN office, for her to rediscover writing. Enter a mouse-less computer, a floppy disk, and a dream large enough to fill a zip drive. The rest of the story lives on in every book she writes.
When she's not working on her craft or following the lives of five adult children, Mary's digging in the dirt with her flowers and herbs, cooking, reading, walking her rescue lab, Henry, or, on the perfect day, riding off into the sunset with her very own hero/husband on his Ultra Limited aka Harley.
This isn't my usual kind of book, but it was on the top 100 freebees, so I decided I had nothing to lose by trying it out. I was so happy I read it, and it would be worth paying for. The characters were developed so well, and the interactions were amazing. I felt like I was sitting in the restraunt with them, and I could feel the problems they were going through. I started reading, thinking I'd only spend about 15 minutes before I had to get stuff done, and I ended up reading for hours. I just couldn't put the book down and had to see what was next. I don't want to give the story away, but its amazing and worth your time. I highly recommend. There's tears, laughter and so much more in this book. I'll be buying more from this author.
Mary Campisi wrote this 5th book in the second chance series about three 40's women.. So fantastic to see a book about lives and loves of older women..From the first page I was hooked completely.. these women are friends yet so so different..The three women one who feels she is taken for granted.. one whose husband is a serial adulterer.. and one whose husband kept a secret from her for 2 years.. of course they are all tied together by their close friendship even through their differences ... This book really shows how a true friendship no matter how different they are will come though even the toughest situations all the twist and turns in the story.. tears and angst and that was from ME!!.. Never thought the instructions and details of Food Mixer would be like instructions for SEX !!!! did they all get their HEA.. well I will not give the story away you will have to read this story.. you will not go wrong..Many Thanks Mary Campisi for another fantastic book...
I really enjoyed this book. It's about three women who are having trouble in their marriages and decide to take a month long vacation. The three bonded all over again and took their lives back. I really liked all the characters. It was a pretty quick read and the story flowed nicely. I got this as a free Kindle book but it was worth paying for, I liked it very much. I reccommend this book and will read others by this author.
Not Your Everyday Housewife: That Second Chance: Book 5 is by Mary Campisi. Although this series is about second chances, each book is a stand-alone, so not having read the series for a while, it was no problem to pick up where I left off. The series is really good and really hits the second chances head-on.
Cynthia (Cyn) Cintar was the ultimate housewife. She took care of all the needs of her two daughters, Kiki and Janie, as well as her loving husband, Sam. She was the mother who attended all the school activities and baked homemade desserts for the Bake Sale. She thought her family felt the same about her; but when no one came home for dinner on her forty-fourth birthday, she decided they didn’t. Then, she decided it was because of the secret she had been hiding for five months, it was her fault. To make herself feel better, she ate 2/3 of the double fudge cake she had made for her own birthday. Luckily for her, her friend called, heard she was sick, and came over to take care of her.
Derry Rohan had been a fashion consultant in Washington, D.C. when she married Alec Rohan and moved to Reston. They adopted a little boy, Charlie who was the apple of their eyes. That is until Derry found out that Charlie was actually Alec’s biological son. Alec hadn’t known of Charlie’s existence when they adopted him. Then two years ago Alec got a letter from Charlie’s mother telling him the truth. The fact that Derry found out by accident two years after Alec found out was something Derry couldn’t forgive. He broke her trust. She needed to get away and think.
Shea Donovan was a nurse who worked fifty hours a week instead of the usual ten. She had twins who were at Georgetown and she had their tuition to pay. her husband, Richard, had two children of his own; but had little to do with them as his ex-wife refused to let him see them. Now, Shea found herself pregnant once again and was hesitant to tell Richard. When she did, his reaction was definitely not what she expected.
The three ladies took off for a month’s retreat to figure out where their lives were going to go now. They stayed in a bed and breakfast over 200 miles from home. The B&B was owned and run by Tula Rae who was definitely a character and who loved to help her tenants “find themselves”. Was this trip a mistake for all of them?
Not Your Everyday Housewife: That Second Chance, Book 5
The story about three women, Derry, Cynthia, and Shea, who are looking for a do-over. So they take a road trip and met Tula Rae, who teach about life, love and baking. The three men in their life, Alex, Sam and Richard. Alex has a son before they marry when the mother die, he told Derry they can adopt him. Cynthia think Sam is having an affair. She's is pregnant and Richard does not want the baby and his girlfriend is pregnant too. Who will get their second chance?
The story of three friends and their journey to "start over," and the amazing woman they meet as a part of their self-discovery is an enjoyable, engaging, and interesting one.
Each woman has her own issues at home and with their life and want a chance to figure out who they are and what they most want and desire in their life and how they can make that happen.
I loved each of the women individually as well as them together and their friendship. This Rae is amazing and adds so much to the women's life, just as they seem to add to theirs.
I did not read any of the others in the series, so this is a stand alone review. What starts as a simple trip to get away from some difficult situations, does not unfold as we expect. Life is messy and sometimes we make bad choices. And sometimes what we feel is unbearable or insurmountable, is truly not that bad. I like the real life edge to the stories with just enough 'happy' to make it a good read.
what a lovely read! this book surprised me with its colorful caracters and storylines. it was funny, sexy and very rewarding to see these lady's face there troubles and fears and hopes head on. i really liked that in the end they did get there happy endings and in the way they did they also did what was right for them and what was right for the other people. a nice book that i enjoyed reading!
Everyone deserves a second chance, right? A lovely story about best friends and second chances. I think my favorite character was Tula Mae...... we all need a Tula Mae in our lives. This book makes you take a hard look at where you are, what you have and how you envision your life. Well, it did for me.
I figured this would be like a beach read, and it was but with some twists and turns as well as interesting characters that one begins to care about. Everything works out in the end but not exactly how the reader might think due to small but effective twists and turns of the events that help keep one's interest and move the story along.
Really slow to start and I almost put the book down and moved on . A few chapters in and getting the characters straight in my head , I found myself enjoying Not Your Everyday Housewife. Turned out to be a cute " fluff " read .
When three friends go on a trip for a month they realize that there is a lot in their lives and relationships that need fixing and healing. Great read.
This book took me right along with these three friends as they took a vacation from their everyday lives as wives. I went on the adventures with them, shared their deepest secrets, cried with them through their heartbreaks and shouted joys of glee when they discovered who they truly were. this is a book that every worman over 35 should read. It will take her back to true friends and how sharing those ups and downs is the true fiber of what really makes any relationship what it is. These three women each are facing ghange in their life, dealing with honesty in relationships, and find out that they must live their lives for themselves, rather than for their family. It's a story of finding that balance that allows women to be true to themselves.
This was a decent book but a little depressing at times and the friendships were a bit odd for me but we all have our own definition of friendships. I guess I am just use to being a bit more involved in my friends' lives as they are in mine and we talk about everything....it's how we keep our sanity. I can't imagine us hiding things from each other. The highlight of the book for me was Tula Rae! I absolutely loved her and wished there had been more of her in the book! Overall, a nice read but little slow.
It wasn't a horrible book, but it wasn't a book that I couldn't put down either. In fact, I left it alone several days here and there. This was a free book that's been on my kindle for a while. It's the story of 3 friends who take 6 weeks off from their family and go live at a B&B 500 miles away to "find" themselves. Completely not believable TO ME, therefore, I couldn't relate.
Mary Campisi is a great writer always walk away with a positive message when I read her books. "Not Your Everyday Housewife" will leave you with the expectation of in life we all get a do over only if we are willing to work through the pain. Live life as if it were your last, love as if you are not to love again and forgive the way you would want someone else too forgive you.
Three married women decide to take a month's leave to find solutions to their marital problems. They find instead that they are even more involved in complex situations. Situations that will eventually change their lives. The author gives us characters that reveal lifestyles in our contemporary society.
There was so much crammed into this book. It could have easily been separated into several books and invested more in its characters that way. As of now it is trying to do too much and leaves you feeling detached from the characters instead of feeling any connection, with the exception of Tula Rae.
In the fashion of many books out there 3 woman find themselves in lives that aren't what they thought they would be so they do what we all secretly wish we could. They escape for a month to reconnect with who they really are and what they love. What stops this book from being trite is the introduction or tulah, Earle, and Steve Miller. The end is no suprise
Got this book as a free Kindle download. I must say, it was pleasantly enjoyable. A fun story about some girlfriends, with some real life drama. Very well written. I will definitely check out her other books. This was an easy, light weekend read.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a tad predictable but it also had parts that kept me guessing. I am surprised by the Roofie angle for Cyn, but I am really glad that Derry was able to pull her out of it.
Maybe I would have enjoyed this story of neurotic women nearly destroying their lives more but the graphic sex scenes really threw me for a loop. A warning in the About This Book would have been helpful.
