William Wymark Jacobs was an English author of short stories and novels. Quite popular in his lifetime primarily for his amusing maritime tales of life along the London docks (many of them humorous as well as sardonic in tone). Today he is best known for a few short works of horror fiction. One being "The Monkey's Paw"(published 1902). It has in its own right become a well-known and widely anthologized classic.

While attempting to learn a little about sailors of old and their craft I found this book, thinking it would have useful information about how to tie knots. After downloading it to my kindle and flipping through a few pages, (and noticing that again kindle editions have no diagrams.)I almost deleted it. Not being the type of person to give up on a book easily without giving it a chance, I began reading it hoping it would, at least, have very well described directions for knot tying.
This book has nothing to do with tying knots! Having made that point clear, I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good short story and a chuckle. After reading some of these one chapter stories, I actually set back and laughed at what I had just read. I enjoyed every story in this book. The book contains stories, mostly dealing with sailors and their mishaps in port but there are a couple of gentleman scoundrels thrown into the mix.
Twelve will written British romantic, relationship, seafaring, and friends adventure thrillers by W. W. Jacobs. I read these as individual novellas. I would recommend to readers of read British novels. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶 to different types of novels 🔰🏡🏰😆 2022
A pleasant collection of short stories exactly what you'd expect from Jacobs. Not all the stories are about sailors and in some of the ones that are the fact that the protagonists are sailors is irrelevant to the story, the stories and seeming most of Jacobs output is if anything all to similar when you've read a couple you start coming across the same ideas, but he's still an enjoyable light writer.
"His mother have 'im the name of Rupert while his father was away at sea, and when he came 'ome it was too late to alter it." - W.W. Jacobs, Sailor's Knots
Just read story 4 as a stand alone which did not come with any of the others. It was good but quite short.
This is a wonderful collection of short stories that were written in the late 1800's that have a maritime flair. The book was fun to read on the Kindle!
A book freely available from Amazon or Project Gutenberg, this book is well written and an easy read. I find the short stories interesting with a humorous slant.
