I've just read the new edited version of Take a Breath and it's way better. I went into this book with a renewed take on it and although I could've rated this a little less but I think it deserves the 41/2 stars. It's a storyline that starts off confusing (kind of forgotten) for me at first but it also left me guessing about the mysterious plot of an obsessive killer to the chemistry of the somewhat annoying Ana that I actually liked in the end to Jake's alpha'ish me tarzan you Jane lol, hot as ?cuk steamy sex scenes to good characters and a twist you’d never guess.

Somehow I wished that Jake had his own POV and the blurb doesn’t really give anything away about why Ana couldn’t have Jake. But, the end it does really shine a light as to how Jake meets Ana.

DNF @ 37%.

I tried to get into this one. I thought I was reading about an OTT H but what I got was a h that was obsessed with the H. She lusted after him and he would kiss her then push her away. Then she would get upset and try to dress sexy or flirt with other men to get his attention. He would get angry, they would kiss or have sex, he pushes her away and on and on it goes.

I was given a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Brief Overview

Ana Sinclair is in love with her mom's new boyfriend. He's 10 years her senior with a teenage son, but that doesn't sway her feelings. Not only does she live in the same house as Jake, but also works with him. It's getting harder and harder to stay away from him.
Things get interesting once they find out Ana's mom has left without any sign of ever coming back. Jake struggles to keep his distance from Ana, although he desperately wants to possess every inch of her.
He becomes her "knight in shining armour" when he gains knowledge that a serial killer is obsessed with Ana, and has murdered girls who look just like her.

I'm not gonna lie, I had high hopes for this book after I read the synopsis. Seems like a decent plot right? Yeah, I thought so too...
However, I soon discovered that the synopsis was as good as it was going to get. So many things irritated me about this book, I had to skim over quite a bit just to get through it. Here's why.
1) I don't usually base my reviews on grammatical errors/editting unless they're really, really bad. I honestly think this was the least editted book I've ever read for a few reasons:
-Okay, so I know the author is from England and the main character Ana was as well, but all of the other character's dialogue was written as if they were also British... despite the fact that it takes place in the United States.

-Grammatical errors GALORE!
*soooooo many run on sentences
* misspelled words
*over used words (get a free thesaurus app)
*quotes that start but don't end... I had to re read and try to guess when the person stopped talking.
*punctuation. There were "?" when it wasn't even a question. Or some sentences didn't even have any punctuation at all. Others had too many commas. Ugh I hate that.

-There was a scene at the bars where Ana always with her friend Jessie and she was talking to John, Jackson and Trevor. But then during the conversation Ana refers to one of them as Tom. Tom is a whole other character that wasn't even there! Did she even read this before publishing?! That's my question for the author.

-WHO says "whilst" a million times in one sentence?! I lost count of how many time it said "whilst" in this book, it drove me nuts!
In my opinion, even if your a self published author, you still have the responsibility to edit before submitting. I know editors are expensive and not everyone can afford them but there are alternatives. GOODREADS is full of beta readers willing to help! For free! You can also pass it along to friends and family and ask them for their opinions and see if they can catch any mistakes. A mistake here or there doesn't bother me. It's the careless mistakes that saturate the pages that bother me.

2) Story wise, this was pretty lacking. I found it extremely predictable and I pretty much knew who the killer was immediately.
I'm usually all for the steamy scenes, but at one point it was page after page after page of the same thing. I've never skipped over sex scenes until this book. They were pretty anticlimactic as well. He's a cave man, I get it, no need to remind me every 5 seconds..

3) The ending... random. I felt like it just stopped, as if she wrote one long story and took a knife to it saying "oh, this looks about halfway" CHOP- here's two books. If you're going to have a "cliffhanger" ending with plans for a second book, make it good. I'm not going to remember your book a week from now if you don't have me on the edge of my seat. I won't be reading the next one of this series, that's for sure.

4) I don't feel as though the characters were built properly. I didn't connect with any of them, I didn't feel any emotions other than irritation "whilst" I read. (See what I did there)

I could probably go on but those were the main issues I had. I really don't like giving bad reviews, I don't like hurting people's feelings. But in this case there was no way I could possibly avoid it. Sometimes honesty is brutal.

Another good story from Jamie.

The story is about Ana who works as a criminal analyst. She is living with her mother and her mother’s fiancé Jake and his son. When Ana mother does one of her disappearing acts Jake and Ana get closer than before.

They are investigating a serial killer who has been killing young women who have blonde hair and blue eyes. However, what happens when said serial killer turns his attention onto Ana and when she gets a note Jake knows he needs to watch Ana and let her know she is safe.

I like the chemistry between Jake and Ana and If you like, possessive alpha males then wait until you meet Jake.

This story is well written you will like the characters; I liked the storyline Believable romance between them and some scenes very hot between them. I really enjoyed this one by Jaimie and I cannot wait for more.

This was a pretty decent story about a young woman in love with the man who supposed to marry her mother. Ana's mother leaves (again) and before long Ana and jake realize their feelings for each other and act on them. All of this while they're dealing with a serial killer.

There were some things that impressed me about this story and a some things that bothered me.

The story idea is a good concept and I like the way the romance played out between Ana and Jake. I did find Jake overbearing and at one point I felt he bordered on abusive. He was showing the classic signs of someone who abuses their partner. I'll have to see how it plays out in the second book.

The murder mystery was predictable to me. I figured out who the killer was pretty early on.

There wasn't a lot of extraneous things going on in the story. Things were pretty direct.

The story takes place in Northern Virginia, where I live and the facts were pretty accurate. I'm glad too. Because I hate it when books have things wrong about the location they take place.

So, why only three stars?

There were enough grammatical errors in the book that it was difficult to read at times. Difficult because it would throw me out of the story.

Also, there was an entire scene about Matthew (Jake's son) playing football. The facts about the football were not accurate and it bothered me. I grew up in Texas. Football country. I like my football scenes to be accurate.

Lastly, some of the dialogue that was coming from Americans sounded British. I got Ana using British terms and phrases as she grew up in England. But those that grew up in Virginia wouldn't have used those terms and phrases. It just made it a bit awkward for me.

Overall this is a great story and I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next with Jake and Ana because we are left with a doozy of a cliffhanger. Which by the way, jake was a shit at the end. That shouldn't have happened!

Ana is a 22 year old college graduate with a degree in criminal Justice. Ana is currently working as a criminal analyst in the Fairfax county office. She is living with her mother Stella and Jake her mothers fiancée and his 16 year old son Matthew. Jake is the captain of Fairfax county as well and help Ana get her job.

Jake is 32 and engaged to be married to Stella a much older woman, who just happens to be Ana's mother. Jake is handsome, loving, responsible, takes care of everyone that he loves, he also happens to be rich and doesn't have to work but he enjoys his job.

when Stella suddenly does another one of her disappearing acts leaving Ana, and Jake behind without even a note. Ana is used to her mother leaving her behind, its not even the second time that its happened. Ana has been in Love with Jake since meeting him, she knows that she really needs to move on since he is going to marry her mother, but when she leaves both of them, maybe its time to let Jake know that she really does feel more for him.

A serial killer has been targeting women who are young (20's) blonde haired and blue eye. Jake knows that he needs to keep an eye on Ana, when she receives a note from the killer he knows that time might not be on his side. he needs to show Ana that she isn't alone in her feelings.

The story is well written, the characters are wonderful, I had figured out who the killer was about 1/3 into the book, but didn't really take away from the story, the romance was believable, and the chemistry between the characters was HOT. Jake is very caveman, and Ana is excited by it and annoyed by it at the same time. The ending left me wanting more, I can't wait for the second book of the series, and more from Jaimie Roberts!

I hesitate to say this as some might take it negatively BUT if you liked FSOG you should enjoy this book-although there isn't any kink here.
The story here is interesting in that Ana (FSOG) is in love with her mother's fiance. I know what you start to think Ewww....but the author does a good job of not making it gross, child predator stuff-no really-it all works leaving no residual residue.
Jake is a sexy, manly man, cop, broody alpha male. Ana is young but not so dumb, has a brain and a career.
There is tons of sexual tension-then hot sex but FSOG haters- there is biting of lips, fisting of hands at their sides, "you're beautiful, you're amazing, what are you doing to me". If you can overlook that it's a great story and a fast read.

The part that made me yell "SUCK"....cliffhanger!!
Damn it. But I'll totally read it to find out about the bad guy.

Take a Breath (Take #1)
By: Jaimie Roberts

Ana has a troubled past that she is trying to keep locked away. Changing her last name and moving far away from that horrible night back when she was just a young girl. Having moved around constantly growing up because her mother would get tired of her current ‘toy boy’ and move on to the next.

Seeing as though they’ve move into this new house and have been living here for a while, Ana thought her mother had finally found ‘the one’.

The thing about it though, Ana found ‘the one’ also…. The man who was set to marry her mother.

Jake is the senior detective at the police department that Ana also works at. There is a hunt going on for “The Blonde Killer” and everyone in the department is trying to solve the mystery of who this man is.

What could have been a thrilling, can’t stop reading page turner… turned out to be a non-stop over the top ‘Alpha’ man who is constantly putting the woman down. Then instantly the weak little woman who says it’s ok let’s just jump into bed and have nonstop Sex and it will all be ok.

To me it felt like 2 books going on in 1 book. Whereas the relationship took over the majority of the book and the serial killer aspect took back burner. Once it was all said and done hurry up and rush the ending to the serial killer and then let’s toss in a twist and end it there so that there will be a second book. It seemed like this last twist was just thrown in there to me to warrant a need for a second book.

There were parts of this book that I didn’t get… Or maybe didn’t make sense to me.

Who goes to a salon and has their hair all curled and styled. Has the make-up artist do a fantastic job on making you look beautiful? Then goes home to take a shower to get ready for the party?

Then there is a part that is talking about how today is Friday and Ana is out with Jessie celebrating the end of the work week. In the next paragraph, it states the rest of the day seems to drag on… Aren’t we already at the end of the day if we’re out celebrating the end of the work week?

Take a Breath is a completely captivating book from page 1, Ana has an obsession her mums boyfriend Jake not only does she live with them she has the pleasure of working beside him all day as well, but in this story she isn’t the only one with an obsession which makes her life take complete new direction even she didn’t see coming!!

Jake lives for his job and his son but finds details in a ongoing case is hitting a little too close to him, his live is a complete mess right now his head tells him one thing but his heart and other important body parts are telling him another! Which part will take control??

A edge of your seat read that leaves you wanting so much more! I fell in love with Jake and Anas story immensely but when things start getting a little scary there love made me swoon so much!! Wonderfully written with a true passion from the author Jaimie Roberts that shone through on every page! A very worthy 5 star read!

Jake is the ultimate Caveman!! He's strong, sexy and passionate! Ana is beautiful and endearing! Together they make perfect sense and such a beautiful couple. My heart hurts so much for Ana . I truly wish for a HEA for her. Because she deserves it more than anyone. Love this authors writing! She can take you from pure bliss to " Oh my god, that did not just happen" in the blink of an eye. Creative and spontaneous! I will be eagerly awaiting book 2!!

It could potentially be a great book but for me (reading the Kindle version), it fell down in a few places. I enjoyed the concept. Jake was Ana's mother's younger fiancee. There seems to be another story about that somewhere. I'm not convinced they even slept together. Anyway, Ana is seriously attracted to Jake and pretty soon Ana's flighty mother is out of the picture leaving Ana and Jake and Jake's young teenage son living together. I liked the beginning development of the sexual tension, attraction and romance. However, as the story developed with Jake and Ana being in the Police force and a serial killer on the loose, it could have been quite exciting, but it seemed obvious who the bad guy was very early on and I kept reading in the hope of a surprise twist. There wasn't one.

There were some hot steamy moments, but some of the dialogue was very similar to another book featuring an "Ana". It kept me entertained up until the big reveal of who the serial killer was and after that I skimmed to the cliffhanger ending. One of the main things that I noticed about this book that it was very poorly edited with incorrect use of words and paragraphs skipping from past to present tense. At one point a character called John suddenly became Tom. I think a good bit of proof reading and editing would be a good thing.

Hot, steamy, sexy, and romantic with a little suspense thrown in the mix. It was great! Jake is the perfect Alpha-male.
Anna 22 has just received her bachelor's in Criminal Justice.Stella 40 Anna's mother(known to move from man to man never staying long with any of them)moves in with a man named Jake 33 police capt. of Major Investigations and his 16 year old son Matthew. Jake get's Anna a job at his office as a analyst. They ride to work together and Jake is very overprotective of Anna. They arrive home after work one day 8 months after they had moved in with Jake to find Stella has fled again no note nothing. Neither Anna or Jake seem to mind much. After a drunken night together there feelings for each other become known(everything is not as it appeared to be between Stella and Jake)and holy batman did they steam up the pages. All the while there is a killer on the lose and his target blue eyed blond haired girls exactly like Anna. I will stop here as to not give anything away but this is a great read! I need book 2 ASAP!

an amazing story that hooks you from the start, love Ana and loved the fact thats she's british and believable, Jake!!! WOW WOW WOWSERS!!!! hmmmm mmmmm loved him even tho he is a bit of a "caveman" but with looks and a body to die for, who cares!!!. The story starts of ok to O.M.G!!! but as Jake and Ana become hot lovers seems like he's not the only man who wants the beautiful sexy english rose!!! I loved the relationship between Ana, Jake and his teenage son Mathew. A very very strong hot thrilling story that keeps you interested all the way through.Totaly connected with tje characters who were very real and believable , not even a hint of cheesiness which is a relief.I absolutely loved this book and CANT WAIT for more, the only bad thing i can say is it ended!!! 5 + stars from me :-) more more more plzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!

Received an ACR copy for an honest review.

I was about to fall asleep in the beginning half of the books, as the pace was too slow & less exciting for an Erotic novel. I believe the writer can do more with the Character as Jake & Ana both works in the police workforce. Definitely more space for improvement to made the whole scenario between Jake & Ana more exciting with dangerous & erotic crime scene. As the author already have some plot whereby some blond got kills.

If the author can start off with a crime scene whereby Ana happen to stumble upon will definitely caught the reader want to know more & what happen next.Anything that is dangerous & forbidden can be really sexy & erotic :)

I love how the 2nd half evolved & how the author kept the ending hanging for 2nd books development. Definitely there is more space for improvement & imagination for the 1st books.

I was given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review, I can only say this: I received this and the moment I started reading from the first paragraph I was hooked, I enjoy reading romantic thrillers and this was not a disappointment, the story is about A girl who is in love with her soon to be step dad (do I need to say more?) it will be hard for me to describe the story without giving some spoilers so the only thing I can tell you is this boot is great, the characters are incredible, the story is fresh and the writing is fluid, there are cliffhanger moments as well as plenty of steamy ones and what is best is there will be plenty more to come in 2nd book so I can't personally wait! Thank you Ms Roberts for an incredible and entertaining read.

Loved this Book!!
It made me Laugh, it made me cry, but I also wanted to slap Jake at certain parts in the Book!
When I first started reading it, I wasn't sure if I would like it, but as I got more into it, I was pleasantly surprised!
Ava is a Young British Woman who is living with her Mother, her Mother's Fiance & her Fiance's son
Jake is older than Ana & is attracted to her from the moment he meets her through her Mother, but fights his attraction
I loved the Other Characters in the Book, especially Jessie!!
I wasn't expecting it to be a CliffHanger, though.
That being said, I can't wait to read the 2nd Part of this Book when it comes out!
I gave it 5 Stars!

I enjoyed reading the book very much. I received it as an ARC from the author. There will be more books in this series and there is a cliffhanger........the reason I didn't give it a five star review. The storyline is fun and full of some really steamy sex scenes. I'm not sure this is forbidden as Jake jumps up and say "Your mother and I never" and he doesn't finish it. Not really sure what they never but, you kinda hope they didn't do the deed. I will be looking out for the next book in the series. I hope it is soon. I'd love to find out how this turns.

OMG!!! I am glad I got to read this book. I was a little put off at the beginning but was told to hold of judgement and I was soo glad I did. It was a great book, even if it is a cliffhanger. I will be looking for the 2nd book for sure!

I thought Ana and Jake were H-O-T! Some of those scenes really did take your breathe away. I was so caught up in it that I didn't realize that I was at the end until I read that her mother had come back and was currently touching Jake....oh hells no!!!

To be continued.....

Unconventional story of boy meets girl. Ana falls for Jake her mother's fiancé but there's a twist he falls for her as well. In the midst of their attraction there's a serial killer that is targeting women that are similar to Ana. Great plot not one that you read to often. Well developed characters....Ana is very relatable I'm not sure if I could resist teasing Jake into taking what he wants either! Warning there is a cliffhanger and I am impatiently waiting for the sequel.

For me I totally got this book and really loved it...I loved the slow build up between Jake and Ana and they had great chemistry and their love for one another shone through towards the end of the book
Could have happily slapped Ana 's mother if you could in fact call her that!
That ending! Oh no was a little heartbroken for Ana and I couldn't understand how Jake could let that happen! He's so gonna need to bring his A game to the table in the sequel!
Well done! Fabulous

Loved it, loved it. Loved it.

Hated the ending of this book, can't wait for the next book.

Absolutely stunned by what Anna has had to endure during her short 22 years of life. I know her mothers lying.

Honestly mothers like that should not have children. Jake needs to man up for heavens sake.
