Recently retired Air Force Intel officer Mike Foley discovers the guy who took a bullet for him during the Gulf War may be a homeless guy living in a small desert town. He leaves Chicago to find him. After arriving he finds a local, and very beautiful woman, who aids the homeless. With her help they locate "Homeless Rick." To their surprise, the next morning he's found drowned in one of the many irrigation canals.
As the suspense rises so does the love affair between Mike and Andy. They start nosing around and find Rick got mixed up in a large Chinese Mafia smuggling operation working out of Mexicali, Mexico. They are chased over sand dunes, through mountains and into Orange County, staying just one step ahead of death while trying to unravel the mystery. For help, Mike contacts his old buddies at the FBI and CIA and gets them involved. There's hi-tech warfare, mystery and suspense, a love affair and crooked politicians who are involved in a payoff scheme.
The California Imperial Valley is where where there's sand dunes, desert, Border Patrol, a major Naval Base and two of California's largest prisons, all tucked together to make a perfect backdrop for this novel.
I read the whole book, hoping the writing would get better. I loved the plot, however the female lead come soft as a total dimwit throughout the book, and the writing is choppy, and doesn't flow smoothly.
Filled with action scene after action scene. Love story weaved in for interest. Appreciate that special interest groups included providing insight about their plight. Many reasons to read this book.
You people should just read this book yourselves and write your own review on this novel yourself and I really enjoyed reading this book very much so. Shelley MA
The story line is actually a good one. However the writing is very bland and annoying. The characters' conversations don't flow well and they say each other's names way too many times. The book was also riddled with grammatical errors. It is sad that two people wrote this and neither knew that you don't use an apostrophe for plurals. Why bother writing? The writers will also alienate many readers because of the sneaky and outright bias against Liberals. Don't get me wrong, I love a good political drama but I've never seen anyone blatantly smear either side. It was distasteful. Speaking of things that were distasteful- I don't think a Native American would ever feel the need to say "just asking a white man for his thoughts" on an environmental issue where the white men in question are the ones damaging the land. I won't even go into all the issues I have with that statement. It wasn't even relevant to the story. I made it through the book, and was skimming the preview of the sequel. There, the first black person made their entrance... and they spoke like a slave. Nice. Never reading anything from these two again.
I enjoyed this book because it was fast moving. There was not a lot of time spent describing what everyone was wearing. Great book for anyone who likes suspense in a light read. The research done by the authors is evident throughout the book.
This page turner will keep you on the edge of your seat as it's constant fast action hurls through action-packed scenes from the beginning to the end! Lots of surprises in this easy, entertaining read.
friend searches for. injured homeless vet finds conflict diamonds, Mexican and Chinese Mafia. smuggling In conflict diamonds. also guy meets gal, they get in trouble.
Read like a B movie with poor script, cheap props, and bad acting. The plot was interesting, but the characters were very shallow. Couldn't get into it. Moving on.
