Consenting Adults

Rate this book
This collection of five unrelated short stories looks at romantic relationships in various forms, from the tame to the erotic.

The title story, "Consenting Adults", explores the eroticism of an enthusiastic "Yes!" between lovers.

"The Haricot Verts" peeks in on a tense moment between a couple where she can't seem to say what's on her mind.

"The Reluctant Exhibitionist" follows a young couple learning to open up and share their fantasies without embarrassment.

"The Adventures of Sasquatch" is the story of a single mom - and her big feet - reclaiming her inner princess.

"Between the Lines" shows what happens when long-hidden desires sizzle to the surface between two near-strangers.

I'm that friend you have who's usually pretty quiet, but who likes to chime in occasionally with some horribly inappropriate sexual innuendo or humor. Also, I hate writing bios.

I knew I was in for short scenes between consenting adults. I knew these were going I be more romantic than titillating. Still I expected more than what I got.
And the second story... What? Just... What? Two pages and nothing to do with consenting adults. I'm Confused as to why it was included in this.
Two stars because it was free. If e very angry if I had bought it.

A well written collection of short stories. Sadly I didn't find myself crazy about any of them. The characters are okay but I just didn't find myself caring too much about them. I will give the author serious respect for knowing how to write. I couldn't find any real errors, and it's refreshing to see a self published author with polished work. I wish I could rate this higher, but I just didn't like the stories and the characters.

The one shining star out of the five was "The Adventures of Sasquatch." That one was definitely my favorite and it was very sweet. It had the best characters and an interesting and engaging story.

On the other end of the spectrum for the non-erotic stories, I didn't care for "The Haricot Verts" at all. It was short, even for a short story, and kind of pointless. While it certainly did a fine job of expressing an awkward and tense moment between a couple, it was just so boring.

As for the three erotic stories, while all three are well written, I found all to be lacking. "Consenting Adults" was good and spicy, but the constant reminders of consent got to be too much. While I like the message I don't like feeling like I'm being beaten over the head with it.

"The Reluctant Exhibitionist" isn't really my kind of fetish, but I could see others getting into it.

"Between the Lines" is again alright. I did appreciate that it covers online relationships, something that is more pertinent to modern dating and something I personally could relate to. Despite this, I just didn't care enough about any of the characters.

I liked the preview for "Sorry's Not Enough" quite a bit, the three chapters that were included were better than all of the short stories. I think that the author should definitely keep writing and I'd be interested in reading some of her other work, this one just didn't do it for me.

I'm new to to romance genre in general and erotica in particular, but I enjoyed this collection quite a bit. It certainly didn't pull punches, as noted by the opening salvo of the erotic 'Consenting Adults' entry. What surprised me was the thoughtful approach the author took with so many diverse subjects in the variety of stories.
Well-written with great, believable dialog and engrossing plots, I'd recommend this book to anyone that enjoys romance and the more intense focus of intimacy.

What a great collection of short erotic stories! You can easily read these on your commute to work (by public transit, of course), waiting in line at the grocery store, or whenever you have a spare fifteen minutes. Too often, women feel ashamed, embarrassed, or guilty about the topic of sex. What I like about CONSENTING ADULTS--besides how much of a turn-on the word “yes” can be--is that it focuses on real women being empowered. Every story is strongly written, but a standout is “The Adventures of Sasquatch.”

Definitely recommended for women readers, but guys may want to take a page from this book and aspire to emulate the desirable male characters presented here.

This was a very good short stories this is my first time reading this author. This is a well written group of five short stories with nothing in common except the Consenting Adults theme. I liked all the stories but.Other then that the stories is really creative. I see these four separate stories as a start to their own novels. The bonus story was a surprise. It have a great plot. The cliffhanger had me wanting more.

Having just read Consenting Adults, I have to say this is an amazing read! I was hooked on every word and sentence. I just wish I could write this well. I will be purchasing her newest title "Sorry's not enough" as the preview left me wanting to know more! Thank you for such a wonderful read and I cant wait to see more of your work!! :)

This book is a series of five short stories, some of them spicy and good, some of them sweet and good, and one, in my opinion, slightly strange and not so good. Overall, though, it was an okay read.

Consenting Adults: This story was by far my favorite and of course it's the first story, so it was all downhill from here. I feel like there could have been more consent, not that there wasn't but the whole point was it was supposed to be consenting to everything. But like I said this was my favorite story.
The Haricot Verts: What did I just read? I have no idea what this was about. I'm glad it was only like one page.
The Reluctant Exhibitionist: This one was ok but I felt thrown in the middle of something. I could have used a bit more set up. And then I knew the husband was going to be in the closet or something, watching his wife.
The Adventures of Sasquatch: Ugh, this one. No one could love me with my huge feet and I'll never notice my office mate has a crush on me. Not that I really new because it wasn't on the page until it was being told to her really but there had to be some hints!
Between the Lines: Online flirts finally meet up, planned for her but unexpected for him with some hot sex. I could have used more story on this one then I might have loved it, ok more sex and I would have loved it. The slow burn until then was good.

What collection

These were great short stories. A lot of different ways to live with love, lust and moving forward with life's special journey. These were a nice blend of sweet and erotic tales. The menage stories were very different and wonderfully written. All of it was a good quick read.

This is the first erotica I've read, so I can't comment on the relative hotness of the sex as it relates to other work
in the genre - although it seemed plenty hot to me - but what I can say is that Lopez can make you interested in a character in just a few sentences. The people are the stars here, more than the sex, and it makes every one of the short stories a page-turner. You will care about these people.

Something else I appreciated was the excellent editing and writing craft on display here. I didn't catch a single typo and there weren't any WTF sentences to try to untangle. A writer who treats her reader with such respect brings that same attitude to the stories themselves, and each is a finely crafted gem.

Overall, as many of the characters in Consenting Adults say - Yes, Yes, Yes!

A VERY, VERY, VERY GOOD READ, EACH STORY SO DIFFERENT, BUT EQUALLY AS GOOD. I HAD THREE FAVORITES OUT OF THE FIVE SHORT STORIES "CONSENTING ADULTS" REMINDED ME OF A CHILDREN'S GAMES(mother may I or simon say's) WE USE TO PLAY. "THE ADVENTURES OF SASQUASH" WAS FUNNY AND REMINDED ME OF FINALLY GROWING UP AND ACCEPTING WHAT YOU THINK OF AS YOUR SHORT COMINGS. I THINK WE ALL HAVE BEEN THERE, DONE THAT AT SOME POINT IN OUR LIFE. "BETWEEN THE LINES" WAS MY NUMBER #1 FAVORITE, IT REALLY LETS YOU KNOW HOW DIFFERENT IT IS TO INTERACT ON LINE, THEN TRYING TO DO FACE TO FACE. IT WAS STEAMY & HOT! NOT A LONG READ, BUT IT WAS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD TO THE LAST PAGE! ;D

Five short stories from super hot to super sweet. Adventures of Sasquatch is one I've read before and it made me a fan of Lopez's. It's still my absolute fav. Lopez has some serious writing skills and they are shown in these shorts. But what really got me was her sneak peek (included) for her new novel Sorry's Not Enough. I HAVE to read the whole thing now because she totally hooked me. I thought the book was about one thing and now... I think it is about something different!

Fabulous short stories about love romance and so much more.

Short and horrible

I am glad that this was properly. described as a. set of short stories but I regret buying them. There were only two that are anything to be bothered about and the rest were varying shades of awful. Why publish short stories, or more like failed ideas really, that feel so scattered? There is nothing connecting them no theme set or subject covered, if you stretch it I suppose it could be office romances but the title consenting adults really doesn't cover the vague ideas in these short stories.

This one is a definite pass.

WHAT????

any book I cannot finish gets only a maximum of two stars and only then if it was free. I would be extremely upset if I paid for it. the characters were not well developed, the story line incomplete, and of course my biggest pet peeve one pov only. I feel that if there are two main characters both deserve a voice and a history to substantiate their actions. if it wasn't for the character's relatable emotional dilemmas in a two of the stories this book would have only got a .5 from myself

J. Lea Lopez reminds the reader that consent and eroticism make the best of friends in each of the five stories in Consenting Adults. Stories examine insecurities, fantasies, romance, and the eroticism inherent in consensual sex. While all the stories reference sexual conduct in some way, some are much for erotic and graphic than others. Some read more romantic than erotic, and some much more erotic than romantic. Lopez offers a quick, easy read in each of these short stories.

This was a fun read, had a few very interesting stories that were enjoyable. With these you get hooked on a character and then before you know it the story is done and onto the next...made me want to buy most of them after reading the short stories. Very well done in my estimate.

A gathering of short stories: some good, some bad, and most completely forgettable. The bit from her novel was okay. I wouldn't read it, but it's well written. I liked Sasquatch snags a Hottie, and that's about it.
