After a divorce from her want-to-be actor husband, Stelle Brannon came home to Sulphur, OK, to run Brannon Inn, a bed, breakfast and supper boarding house established by her late grandmother. She'd thought the Inn would be a white elephant when she inherited it a few months before her divorce, but she fell easily into the job of taking care of the place. At least until the day she literally backed into Rance Harper, a man who looked entirely too much like her ex-husband and stepped on every raw nerve she had left.
Rance had made reservations for himself and several of his friends to stay at the Inn while they hunted deer that fall. Stella was a beautiful lady, but she was a tall blonde. He'd sworn off that kind of woman and had vowed to never make a lifetime commitment again.

Hi! I'm twenty five years old and movie star gorgeous. The camera added thirty plus years and a few wrinkles. Can't trust those cameras or mirrors either. Along with bathroom scales they are notorious liars! Honestly, I am the mother of three fantastic grown children who've made me laugh and given me more story ideas than I could ever write. My husband, Charles, is my strongest supporter and my best friend. He's even willing to eat fast food and help with the laundry while I finish one more chapter! Life is good and I am blessed!

Reading has been a passion since I was five years old and figured out those were words on book pages. As soon as my chubby little fingers found they could put words on a Big Chief tablet with a fat pencil, I was on my way. Writing joined reading in my list of passions. I will read anything from the back of the Cheerio's box to Faulkner and love every bit of it. In addition to reading I enjoy cooking, my family and the ocean. I love the Florida beaches. Listening to the ocean waves puts my writing brain into high gear.

I love writing romance because it's about emotions and relationships. Human nature hasn't changed a bit since Eve coveted the fruit in the Garden of Eden. Settings change. Plots change. Names change. Times change. But love is love and men and women have been falling in and out of it forever. Romance is about emotions: love, hate, anger, laughter... all of it. If I can make you laugh until your sides ache or grab a tissue then I've touched your emotions and accomplished what every writer sets out to do.

I got serious about writing when my third child was born and had her days and nights mixed up. I had to stay up all night anyway and it was very quiet so I invested in a spiral back notebook and sharpened a few pencils. The story that emerged has never sold but it's brought in enough rejection slips to put the Redwood Forest on the endangered list. In 1997 Kensington bought two books for their Precious Gems line. Two years and six books later the line died with only four of those books seeing publication. But by then Avalon had bought a book and another, and another. Ten years later the list has grown to thirty nine. Last year Sourcebooks bought the Lucky Series which is in the bookstores now. They've also bought The Honky Tonk Series which will debut with I LOVE THIS BAR in June and will be followed by HELL, YEAH, MY GIVE A DAMN'S BUSTED, and HONKY TONK CHRISTMAS.

Folks ask me where I get my ideas. Three kids, fifteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Note: I was a very young grandmother! Life is a zoo around here when they all come home. In one Sunday afternoon there's enough ideas to keep me writing for years and years. Seriously, ideas pop up at the craziest times. When one sinks its roots into my mind, I have no choice but to write the story. And while I'm writing the characters peek over my shoulder and make sure I'm telling it right and not exaggerating too much. Pesky little devils, they are!

I have a wonderful agent, Erin Niumata, who continues to work magic and sell my work. I'm very lucky to have her and my editors who continue to believe in me.

Happy reading!

I can’t get into this book at all. The author does not know how to write younger characters. Her dialogue, inner dialogue, and character interaction all sounds fuddy duddy and like the characters are really in their 50s or 60s. It’s impossible for me to believe Stella is 26 based on how she’s portrayed. It feels like the author just hasn’t a clue how to suspend her own age and way of thinking and get into the mind of a younger person. The weird “feelings” (I hate to even use that word) between Stella and Rance are so rushed and underdeveloped throughout the beginning. I stopped reading when Stella goes on vacation and “wishing Rance was here.” What?! Just before that she didn’t want anything to do with him. Also the odd date between Stella and Joel was just bizarre. The author should stick to writing December wholesome romances rather than May romances. This book would make more sense if the main characters were actually the age they’re written/portrayed rather than the one the author is pretending them to be.

Great follow-up

This is the second book in the Broken Road series. This time it's Stella's story. Her wanna be actor spouse serves her with divorce papers because his agent/lover says Stella is "holding him back." Granny Molly has just passed and in her wisdom left her B&B to Stella, with the stipulation that she can't sell it for five years. In walks, Rance, disillusioned about love, soon to be Stella's neighbor. Sparks fly, fights ensue, and Stella has a couple of "Jesus" moods (moods so bad, even Jesus would walk away). We really get to know Stella and Rance. We even get an update on Dee and Jack from the first book in the series.

Hmmm...

I think it’s a great story... didn’t make me cry! I found myself asking my husband questions about the state park in Sulphur( his grandma was in a nursing home right on the edge of the park ).
I always like the truth in Carolyn’s stories. Bromide Hill is real and Tarvertine Island is too ! She always brings a loving light to the settings of her stories! Blessings from Lindsay, Oklahoma!

The dreadful "C" word

Excellent second chance story told so artfully. Love the sassy, brassy heroine with a willing heart. The hero is a gentleman with issues. Carolyn Brown made another book that is so hard to put down with this fun and feisty book about love, trust and commitment. A very enjoyable read..

Truth be told

Another amazing love story. The people in this book are so real. I matched the main characters with people I know and love. The story line is just like I want it to happen. This author understands and shares the real basis for a lasting relationship. A good lesson to learn and it works in real life.

Great story from Carolyn Brown.

Carolyn Brown never fails to write a great romance and this is one of her best. Two commitment shy people are thrust together as neighbors neither one of them searching for a second chance at love. Hilarious at times, but heart warming at others, it was a great read.

To Commit by Carolyn Brown

Sometimes it is necessary to read an old fashioned tear jerking romance and Ms.Brown can certainly fill that niche. She writes the kind of stories that are so close to real life they suck you right in and restore your belief in human goodness. Loved it, can highly recommend it. Mixed feelings about this book

On the whole, I enjoyed this book. However, I don’t think it was one of the author’s best. The story had some repetitive parts where the two main characters kept ruminating why they shouldn’t be involved in a relationship with each other. I enjoyed the last quarter of the book the most.

Different dreams

I did not care for this book. Too fake. Too self centered on Stella's supposedly 'southern life style' life. Me me me. Yes, everyone has morals and dreams, but a relationship should be based on two people's dreams. Not one forcing the other to change.
But, that's my opinion. It may not be yours.

Do I recommend the book! Yes.

I love this series!

I love the B and B's in the books by this author! Makes you want to go visit one! I loved that there was a fishing pond with big cat fish in this one. Beautiful stories and men with creases in their jeans and wrinkles above their boots! I love Wrangler's, where the pockets sit where they should!

The Forever thing again?
It appears that I have again dropped into the middle of a series, but Carolyn Brown is good at the stand-alone too. Two divorced people are once burned twice shy. So what to do when the attraction is strong anyway? Go a little slower and try for like first. Good advice by the way.

I started reading Carolyn Brown books and won't stop until I have read all her work. I thoroughly enjoy her stories. I sense she writes from a very personal perspective and it makes me want to sit on a porch with some sweet tea to hear her tell her stories. I imagine her as a gracious southern lady with a lil sass!

Omg!!

This one will make some people feel like they've been sucker punched. A lot of us will remember our own wedding day. The vows still
Make me get emotional. But that's what this author does all the time. I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.

A Lifetime Comitment

Who would have thought that our marriage would truly last sixty years? With our promises to each other, the good Lord provided abundant blessings throughout our lives. I thank Him constantly.

If only!!

What a wonderful world this one would be if all relationships turned out as this story tells. I can't say enough about Carolyn's descriptive writing. She leaves nothing for the imagination. Can't wait to open the covers of Book No. 3.

Good reading

The reason I chose this rating is because the story showed strength and thought. The characters had fear of a new relationship but weighed the pros and cons and gave the situation an opportunity to blossom.
The book is a good read.

They were in like and love. Both afraid of the "C" word. Both had been burned before. As much as they tried not to, they fell
in like and love. With that they were committed to each other. The "C" word...

Predictable love story...but good!

I have grown to love Carolyn Brown's books. If course, I was a native Oklahoman. There men in my life have had Texas connections. Would recommend her , for a good, clean love story.

What a winner

What a sweet;down to earth uncomplicated book: l can sleep tonight with no nightmares or bad blood stories to haunt me.
In our days now uncomplicated seems like the right thing; even if it is just a story
