If you want a sexy Beauty and the Beast retelling with a modern romantic suspense twist , you won’t want to miss Searching for Redemption, the thrilling fourth installment of the Redwood Coast Rescue series by Tonya Burrows!
Tonya Burrows wrote her first romance at age thirteen and hasn't put down her pen since. Originally from a small town in Western New York, she suffers from a bad case of wanderlust and is still searching for a place to call home. She shares her adventures with her husband, two adorable doodles, and Scribble the Writer Cat.
When she's not writing about hunky military heroes and their courageous K9s, Tonya can be found watching either true crime or baking shows while snuggled up on the couch with her furbabies. She also enjoys traveling—especially long road trips to see the National Parks.

the setup… Podcaster Alexis Summers got frustrated waiting for the sheriff in Steam Valley, Arizona to devote resources to investigate the possibility of a serial killer at large and decided to pursue it on her own. But she awakens to a nightmare, her last memory being grabbed in front of her motel room. After being held captive in the mountains for a week, her abductor has set her loose only to cruelly chase her…predator and prey. Former Navy SEAL Shane Trevisano has lived in isolation in those mountains for nine years, living off the grid. He and Alexis’s paths are now destined to cross.
the heart of the story… Shane’s last failed mission not only left him disfigured with burns over seventy percent of his body but just about destroyed his sanity. As team leader, he suffers from guilt, PTSD and shame about his appearance. When he returns to his cabin after delivering a lost dog to the clinic in town and finds the wounded Alexis, little did he know that she would become his lifeline back to some sense of normalcy. It was heartbreaking to see these two wounded people fail to trust one another initially but equally heartwarming to experience their evolution from that space. The bond they formed out of survival felt realistic and had me rooting for them to land in a good place. Meanwhile, the killer was still out there and the town was convinced it’s Shane.
the bottom line… The last book ended with Alexis’s abduction so this starts with a horrid bang. Between the elements, the killer and the biases of some of the people in town, Shane and Alexis were facing multiple threats to their lives and livelihoods. It was exciting and nerve wracking but the romance held its own. And, the service dogs continue to be prominent in the story. The crazy twist at the end has me yearning to jump right into the next book.
We left book 3 of the series (Searching for Justice) knowing that Alexis, the podcaster who was becoming a real thorn in sheriff Ash's side, was in serious danger. So of course we dove right into her story here, right?
Nope--Ms Burrows made us wait. Until chapter freaking two. But that ended up being OK, because our hero, Shane, had a very important rescue to take care of first. Plus, we really needed to see how (badly. Very, VERY badly) Shane interacted with others before we see him and Alexis together in the same space.
But yikes, y'all--it was rough, both seeing himself and his life through Shane's eyes and then seeing him through Alexis's. He's in so much pain, I have no idea how the author could spend hours writing him and then go function in society (or at least her usual life) like normal. I just spent a few hours reading his story, and OMG it hurt. But of course as he began to open up--first to Lexi, then to Clue, Ash, Zak, and the rest of RWCR--it made the changes in him so much more impactful.
And the romance, when they let themselves go there? Hooo boy. So delicious.
Even if you missed the fact that this is a Beauty and the Beast retelling, if you've watched either of the Disney versions even once (or seen it on stage) it's hard to miss the parallels. (I'm sure at least some of them are in the original as well, but I'm less familiar with that version so I can't say for sure.) I kept forgetting that it was a BatB retelling, and each time one of the references popped up in the narrative I was surprised once again about how cleverly Ms Burrows managed to take an aspect of the fairy tale and work it into to her modern romantic suspense, making me completely believe that it all could have happened IRL exactly like that.
Searching for Redemption is the 4th book in Ms Burrows's Redwood Coast Rescue series, and it could *probably* be read as a standalone. All of the series characters play roles in each book, though, and the events of each tend to flow into the next as we clearly build up to what's promising to be one heck of a showdown with a big bad guy. So you could read just this book--but knowing that each one is full of some of the bestest fictional doggos out there doing some very good work, why would you?
(And oh, yes--there are also strong heroes and heroines, swoony love stories, and heart-pounding suspense in each too, if that's your kind of thing ;) )
And now...the waiting begins for the next book. After that epilogue, Searching for Shadows cannot be available soon enough for me...
Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I absolutely loved Shane and my heart hurt for him. The things he suffered through, the way the town treated him. He totally deserved his HEA with Alexis.
However, Alexis' trauma wasn't given too much importance. Her rape and torture weren't placed at the same level as Shane's PTSD, which are obviously different kinds of trauma. It just felt like the author wasn't comfortable handling Lexi's trauma appropriately, which felt like a cop out. The pacing also felt off, it was a slow burn till 65% and then any private moment Lexi and Shane had was about sex. Not that the emotions were missing.
I've also noticed a pattern with Ms. Burrows' books. The main focus is always about the men's trauma. While I love that the female leads are emotionally strong enough to hold on while their men struggle with their emotions, there isn't enough groveling after the 3rd act breakup. The women very easily forgive the men, not that the men commit some huge mistake. It would be nice to see some groveling beyond a grand declaration of love. But I also get that they've had enough angst in their lives so adding to it seems cruel.
Note to self: Don't read Ellie and Cal's book. Ellie and Cal had a thing in this book but she breaks it off because he takes on the person who allegedly assaulted Alexis as a client. Cal is desperate to get her back so decides to find Hope, Ellie and Lexi's older sister. Ellie then continues to sleep with Cal and drops him like a hot potato every time after the deed is done. I like groveling, but this hot and cold behavior is just spineless BS. While Cal was a manwhore before Ellie, he deserves better than someone who can't make up her mind and resorts to such games according to her whims.
Didn’t really have high hopes for this book considering we hadn’t been introduced to Shane in the previous books. But, I was pleasantly surprised! I really enjoyed the suspense and twists this book included and loved the bond that Shane and Lexi shared with each other.
As always, it’s lovely to see the other characters from the series and how the RWCR bands together as a team and takes care of each other. I rounded up from a 3.5 to a 4 just because this book surprised me and I didn’t want it to end.
Did I start this in the middle of the night because I had to know what was happening to Alexis? Yes. Do I regret staying up all night binging this? No. Shane absolutely deserves the world and I love that man. I love Alexis for him. The mountain recluse who considers him a monster? I didn’t stand a chance not falling for him. I was so intrigued by him after we briefly met him in the very first book, and I’m so happy he gets a happily ever after. This one tugged on all the heartstrings. I adored Alexis’ patience with him and her unwavering determination. I loved Shane’s protectiveness and the way he was willing to push himself to be able to show up for her. I just love the two of them and how good they are together!
This is book 4 in this series and the tension gets more intense as we learn more about Shane the mountain man recluse. These books can be read as standalones but honestly I would read or listen to the other books as well and in order..That way you can appreciate everything that is happening and that has happened in previous books...There is always a link weaving through each book that associates with the next book in line. Shane is ex military a navy seal whose life was changed forever when a mission him and his team were on went bad...So Bad that men were killed and Shane was left with scars on most of his face and body.He suffered with PTSD and couldn't be around people so he squirreled himself away in a cabin in the woods..Living there for almost 10 years he had developed a reputation as a dangerous freak by the towns people..They avoid him whenever he had to go into town for supplies..he was the towns pariah. ..Alexis ran a podcast on true crime and she investigated cold cases, but her latest investigation The Shadow Stalker got her in trouble. She was kidnapped and kept captive until one day she was shot and set free so her kidnapper the shadow stalker could hunt her down and finish her off. Half dead anyway Alexis stumbles upon a cabin in the woods and uses that as a safe haven to hide from the shadow stalker. Yes you know what happens next it is Shane's cabin so imagine his surprise and anger when he comes home to find an injured woman in his cabin. Well it doesn't go well put it that way as it triggers flashback for Shane and he is convinced she has been sent by some unknown source to kill him. Alexis on the other hand thinks Shane is the shadow stalker and that she wandered into his trap...she needs to escape him...But there is a snow storm that traps them in the cabin. Anyway the story does not end there, because there is so much more that happens beyond the cabin when they finally get to town. They have to catch a serial killer..they both have to slay their own demons because both Shane and Alexis are more alike than different. They have both been through traumatic events that altered ther lives. There is a twist to this story that I didn't expect and I never guessed that the story would go this way.. I loved that we are still able to revisit passed characters from the other books as Shane and Alexis's story plays out...and we get clues to possible other books in the future,..like maybe Alexis's sister Ellie and Cal the lawyer?..And we already get a taste of the next book and who it will be. This whole story is wonderfully narrated by Stephen Borne he does a fantastic and satisfying portrayal of these Characters...and I relished listening to his storytelling. Tonya Burrows has written another steamy ,enthralling romantic suspense that I thoroughly enjoyed listening to. I can't wait for the next book. Brilliant 5 Stars.
🐾🎙️It's only chapter 6 and I'm tired of everyone treating Shane like the villain, even Alexis. Without any proof she's just certain that Shane is the kidnapper. Umm... why? Why it never came to her mind that the cabin she stumbled into might belong to someone? I understand she has no reason to trust him but she also has no reason to treat him like that. She only gave him a chance after she saw him fighting to save her and it's like a light bulb goes off in her head as he appeared useful to her. I'm sorry I understand she might have gone through horrible things but it was portrayed like that.
🐾🎙️Alexis doesn't fit the killers mo doesn't mean he won't go after someone who's clearly trying to catch him. Alexis needs to do something drastic to go up in my book cause I really don't like her. She is a podcaster who apparently haunted someone innocent in previous book, dumb, doesn't think her actions through and I could go on and on. Or maybe I'm just not over my last book I've read with a nasty podcaster😒
🐾🎙️I hope they take time to build the relationship. And ig for the first time I want the fmc to pursue the relationship first. I want her to be there for him cause too many people would just love to be him the villain and the men has too much suffering in his life.
🐾🎙️Cal seemed kinda suspicious to me but i think he's one of their own aka a future H💁♀️
🐾🎙️I don't think I can finish this book if they keep tormenting Shane like that.
🐾🎙️Imo you really effed up your job as a therapist if you let your emotion overrule in front of your patients.
🐾🎙️I'm not sure I like Alexis's approach. How she wants to fIx Shane. Dropping "I owe you because you saved my life" in every conversation, even when they have sex her approach was "I don't want to settle into my trauma". Idk man I'm not feeling the romance. It's not well balanced.
🐾🎙️We're recreating the angry mob as well?
🐾🎙️Wait a min, Jacoby is Jax? And Shane didn't recognize his own teammate?
🐾🎙️Don't tell me they're not gonna solve the mystery!!!!!!?😭
🐾🎙️This is my first book of this author so I'm not really attach to the Doctor. Maybe she made impacts in previous books💁♀️I wouldn't know.
🐾🎙️Aaandd they didn't solved the mystery. I hate it. Idk how i feel about this book. I was invested in the shadow killer mystery and they didn't finish it. The romance wasn't good. I didn't get Shane and Alexis's connection. It lacked depth. But I might read Veronica's book cause it'll bug me not finishing the mystery.

Searching for Redemption Redwood Coast Rescue, Book 4 By: Tonya Burrows Narrated by: Stephen Borne
Tonya Burrows pens another fantastic romantic suspense novel set in her “Redwood Coast Rescue” series and puts her own unique spin on the “Beauty and the Beast” fairytale. This fourth book features Shane Trevisano, a wounded warrior who battles his own inner demons and opts to live his life in a remote cabin on Mt. Humboldt. He prefers nature over people and only goes to town when necessary, especially since he knows the people of Steam Valley think he is a monster. The winter has not been kind, and he is in dire need of supplies, but kept putting off going to town, but the appearance of a dog needing help decides for him, so he heads to town to drop the dog off at Redwood Coast Rescue before picking up some supplies. My heart went out to him, for most people a trip to the store is simple, but for him it is a struggle, and they are not very kind to him there. Alexis Summers was in town investigating the legendary shadow stalker, and she told the sheriff that there was a serial killer on the loose, but he did not take her seriously. When Alexis is abducted and taken to a bunker in the mountain, she knows the shadow stalker is real and that she is his next victim, but she is determined to survive. Escaping and finding refuge in a cabin buys her time, but then he comes and she is convinced her days are numbered. Wow, what a story, one that grabbed my attention immediately and captivated it the whole time. There is never a dull moment, and the story has plenty of drama, angst, action, twists and turns, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions and a slow burn romance. As always, the writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. Tonya Burrows, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Stephen Borne delivers another amazing performance, bringing these characters to life, humanizing them, giving each a voice that is fitting and believable. He nailed it as Shane, grasping every aspect of his personality, from his episodes with PTSD to his strength and determination. You could hear how much heart he puts into his work as he captures all the characters’ emotions and has you feeling each one. Borne is an entertaining storyteller and his performance elevates this already fantastic story to another level. Thank you for another fantastic listen.
Shane gets his book!! He's first introduced in the first book in the series, both helping the main characters out and asking them to get off his mountain and leave him alone. He was social distancing before it was mainstream. He's had a rough life from his discharge from the military, and has lived up on the mountain for about a decade. I loved his connection with Alexis and how it wasn't perfect from the get-go, and both their issues caused some problems. He had good character growth in the story and I liked how it wasn't linear, and there were some ups and downs.
Alexis was a well written character, but I had some trouble connecting with her at times. Her tenacity and strength show through in almost every scene she's in, even after such terrible events happen to her. I liked her quest for information and wanting to learn everything. She demonstrates soooo much courage and drive to find the Shadow Stalker and prevent other victims from being hurt. I did think some of her actions were questionable because she helps run a true crime podcast, so it seemed weird why she'd draw certain conclusions or do certain things. It just seemed incongruous to her personality, and confused me a little.
I really liked the suspense and mystery in this one. Each story in this series has overarching similarities, but all are still unique and I think this one can be in its own category because Shane and Alexis have their own separate traumas that play so well together. I liked the feeling that the mystery was coming to a conclusion, but the author was still able to throw some twists and turns in. And honestly, there were some pretty good ones that make me fear for a few people in Steam Valley.
This is the fourth book in the series and can be enjoyed as a standalone. I do recommend reading/listening to the previous three to get a better sense of the characters (and the dogs!!!!!!) and because they are all great stories (and have great dogs in them!). The characters (and dogs) from the previous ones make appearances in this story. This story contains subject matter that isn't light. There's SA (past tense, non-detailed), assault, inciting a riot, PTSD - related issues, violence, and murder (not on page). There are some fun things, too, like swearing, steam, and dogs!!
The narrator does a wonderful job again! I love listening to him bring the author's character's to life! He does such a good job differentiating all the characters' voices. I listened at 1.2x speed.
Reihe in der richtigen Reihenfolge: Searching for Rescue Searching for Risk Searching for Justice Searching for Redemption
This is another wonderful story in the Redwood Coast Rescue series that uses dogs to help former soldiers and other injured souls with their PTSD healing. Shane Trevisano is a former SEAL Master Chief Petty Officer who was blown up by a IED in a FUBAR op in Afghanistan that killed almost everyone in his team. This story is about how he grew to want to join society once again because of a woman and her dog. I was so touched by his brokenness and how Alexis reached through his barriers to make him see he was not to blame, had a heart to help others. I've so enjoyed this series that's full of wounded military men and the women who help them find better lives. This author has such a heart and talent for writing these broken men.
Shane Trevisano lives alone in a cabin on Murder Mountain. It's been a really hard winter and he's almost out of supplies. While on a hunt he comes across a dog who is almost dead and finds he can't turn away. He takes it into town to the animal rescue hoping they can save him. Because he's a scarred recluse the town folks are scared of him on site. After getting some provisions he returns to his cabin to find Alexis Summers bloody and almost dead in his cabin. She's been running from the Shadow Stalker who tortured her for weeks. He then set her loose to hunt her down. Shane tries to nurse her back to health but ends up taking her to town for help. He gets arrested for his efforts.
Alexis Summers is a podcaster who searches for answers to missing people. We met her in a previous book. She's in town trying to hunt down the Shadow Stalker who's been killing women for years in the area. The story almost killed her when she was kidnapped from in front of her hotel. Shane saves her life, and they end up together trying to find the guy who tortured her. This was a fascinating story of a woman's insatiable search for answers and a man discovering he is worthy of forgiveness and love. It was very well written.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Searching for Redemption Redwood Coast Rescue, Book 4 By: Tonya Burrows Narrated by: Stephen Borne
To say I can't get enough of this series is an understatement. Tonya Burrows gives the perfect mix of romance and suspense to push all the right button for me. This one is on the edge of the seat excitement as a serial killer is on the loose and Alexis, a true crime podcast host has gone missing. Lucky for her, she has gotten away and gets taken in by Shane, a recluse. Now the race is on to get her to a hospital and find the shadow killer. But Shane is finding himself the main suspect. Will Lexi be able to convince him to stay off the mountain and in town? Will he get the help he needs? Will Lexi be okay? Will the killer be caught? Burrows took me on a whirlwind of twists and turns with this one. I loved Shane and appreciate his backstory. Burrows compassionately, yet realistically shows how difficult it can be for a soldier to come back to civilian life and adjust after the tragedies they have seen. Lexi is perfect for Shane, seeing him for the man he is, not the scars he has. And the dogs are such an important part of each story! The biggest plus for me after the fabulous story is the cameos from characters in previous books, which gives that continuity and feeling of family. I am in love with this series, one of the best I have heard.
And with that being said, Stephen Borne is incredible as he brings this gem alive. Each voice is realistic to the character and he brings all the feelings out. From the terror of being kidnapped to true love, he finds each nuance to make the scene genuine. Love his voice and know when he is telling the story, it's going to be good.
This is fabulous!! Really it's perfect i could not have expected better. the tension is high, the suspense from first page to the last one? Shane is living like an hermit, hurting from his past and his scars making people afraid of him so he avoid them....but to save a dog found on his mountain he surpasse his fears then...for a wounded woman he is risking even more....but he does need help and Clue is the first one to showhim trust, deeply one to make him want to move mountains to protect again.
Alexis barely escape death from the shadows hunter she was researching...held captive for weeks, tortured then hunted she does not trust anyone...but the strange who saves her is hurting and even in her state she can see it, he saves her life when he could have let her to die...slowly trust is built and they will do everything to protect him at her turn.
But more than the serial killer on their track they have to face frightened people becoming dangerous to what they fears or does not understand. ...thankfully Ash the sheriff is on their side as well as the rescue group and all the dogs....together they could discover what happened to Alexis and Shane could start to heal
i LOVED it!!!!! really high tension, cute moments with the dogs, steamy moments sevreal twists to keep you on edge....i can't wait for next book it's becoming even better with each one. To be recommended and better read in order to savour it fully and understand the group dynamic better
This is not a sub genre of romance that I probably would have ever picked up but the author was looking for a few more ARC readers so I took a chance. I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. I’m a true crime fan so this tickled my fancy while also hitting that romance aspect. The characters were bared to the bone, humans with dark and damaging histories and storylines (I didn’t recall a trigger warning on it so FYI: PTSD, causalities of war, sexual trauma, stalking, violent crime).
The story was well written and kept me intrigued. My only hang up was how quickly the main characters went from being traumatized to “healing” with each other. I felt like it needed a few more chapters/weeks/months to get from point A to point Z in mental healing after trauma. I know everyone is different but I still felt like it was needed. Especially after finding a dead body. My first thought after going home and reeking of decomp wouldn’t be to jump into bed with someone. (Even if the sex was 🔥).
The spice was spicy but slightly confusing on positioning in multiple scenes. I had to go back and reread things a few times for clarity.
All it all an entertaining read and a good cliffhanger for the next book. Will probably come back for that one.

I hated how everyone wanted to make Shane a villain. I get his PTSD sometimes made him lash out and the scarring made him look different from the norm, but considering the small town, wouldn’t people know this about him. Why treat him like a pariah in every instance!?
I seriously didn’t like Alexis when she immediately assumed Shane was the psycho killer who had kidnapped her. I’m glad her attitude towards him changed quickly. And I liked that she liked him despite everything.
I did find it super weird that when she woke up in the hospital the sheriff wasn’t right there trying to get answers. Considering what happened I would’ve assumed they would want answers and she’d want to give them in order to catch the guy as soon as possible. And when she finally does tell the sheriff what happened, she doesn’t mention a detail that could identify the psycho murderer. WTH!!!? He might be caught faster!
And Dr. Firestone! Why!? And if she truly said she didn’t want to treat Shane after that incident, I lose respect for her character. She supposedly specializes in PTSD for veterans, so that’s just not acceptable.
Then just when you think the mystery is solved, it’s not. WTH!? If Veronica is taken, that’ll be it for her. There’s no way she’d survive.
Former SEAL Shane Trevisano has been a mountain recluse since he was discharged after a blast left him severely disfigured. While he was out, trapping before a storm rolled in, he found a young dog but wasn’t able to help much. He took the pup to the vet and managed to frighten a person or two. When he got back to his lonely cabin, Shane noticed someone was inside. It was podcaster Alexis Summers she’d been kidnapped a month ago. Right now, she was bleeding from two gunshots!
Alexis had been investigating the Shadow Stalker and was taken outside her hotel. At first, Alexis thought the man who’d kidnapped and brutalized her had her wounded and cornered. But when she awoke, she’d been somewhat treated, shaky at first Shane and Alexis begin to work past their separate damage to trust and rely on each other.
Meanwhile, the dog Shane rescued turned out to be Alexis’ dog and someone has started the rumor they’d seen Shane take Alexis. Bad weather moves in, Alexis decides she won’t wait a moment longer to see her sister and leaves Shane’s cabin but is attacked. Luckily, Shane came to the rescue and helped, but Alexis has developed a fever and one of her wounds is infected. When they make it to town, Shane is arrested while Alexis protests his innocence. Rating: 4.75stars
(4.75) I tossed and turned most of the night after I read this. My heart hurt for Shane. For all the people in the world who are disfigured through no fault of their own and treated badly by their so called fellow human beings. Throw Alexis out intrepid podcaster into the mix who went missing from book 3 into the mix and we have a tale of anguish, hurt and so much more. A tale of two survivors struggling to do that, survive. We see Shane deal with flash backs, PTSD, Alexis and her captivity and we get to see 4 legged do what they do best and the joy they bring us. My one hiccup was the spicy scene seemed to come awfully quick, but then she freely admits she enjoyed that aspect before, so who knows, everyone is different. It was also interesting to see Shand having to deal with physical aspect. This was a gut wrenching emotional ride that had a whopping twist at the end and the prologue for book 5 has me already going no, no, no. Thank you StoryOrigin for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #SearchingforRedemption #RedwoodCoastRescue #TonyaBurrows #DreamByDayPublishing
Shane is a former Navy SEAL who is still bears the physical and emotional scars of his last mission. As a result, he lives in seclusion and only ventures into town that fears him when absolutely required to collect supplies. When an injured woman shows up at his cabin, he does not know what to do with her however his need to protect overrules all even if it casts suspicion directly at him.
Alexis runs a podcast, and she is investigating a cold case which seems to be resurfacing. She has been abducted, held hostage, and is now running for her life when she stumbles upon Shane’s cabin. At first she views him the same as the people in town but she soon realizes that she couldn’t have been more wrong however the danger is far from over.
Alexis and Shane were wonderful today as they have both been damaged by their life experiences but find solace, hope and love in each other. The characters are compelling, the suspense part of the story will keep you on edge and the narrator does a wonderful job of balancing both the emotion and intrigue into a captivating experience.
The fourth Redwood Coast Rescue novel, Searching for Redemption, is MMC Shane’s and FMC Alexis’ story. The fast pace and darker tone of this particular novel suited the suspense element, which was especially strong. I’m enjoying how Burrows is building the mystery surrounding the series’ on-going villain, the Shadow Stalker, without making the overarching plot drag. However, I felt the pacing did not suit the romantic aspect of the story; the relationship between Shane and Alexis seemed to develop too quickly to feel entirely natural in the circumstances. Having met Shane and Alexis in the previous novels, it was great to get further insight into both characters’ pasts and motivations. Although I can’t say I’d like Alexis as a person due to some problematic actions in the previous novel, I have always appreciated her tenacity and courage, and this really shone through in the story. I liked getting to know her better and thought her individual growth was particularly well-done. It was also rewarding to see Shane begin to find a place of comfort and safety within the RWCR team, and I hope to see more of his journey through the series.
Alexis has just escaped a serial killer who has held and tortured her for weeks, close to death she stumbles upon Shane’s cottage high up in the mountains. Shane, a recluse and considered a monster by the town folk due to his scarred face and body, finds Alexis in his home near death. The decision he makes to help her and keep her alive, will change his life forever but to have a future, the two will need to survive all the obstacles in front of them, including someone who wants to see Shane and Alexis suffer. I LOVED these two and their story, the twists and turns, obstacles, pain and suffering, surprises, steam, and amazing characters. Alexis was a strong woman, who saw beyond the scarred body and saw the real man Shane, the protector who is haunted by his past. Emotional scenes that made my eyes misty and descriptions that were spot on, it was a read that I couldn’t put down once I started and with a tease for the next book….can’t wait for it!! *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
My favorite of the series so far. Again, don’t let the covers on these books fool you they all deal with heavy and rough topics.
I wasn’t sure about Shane in the beginning- he seemed unhinged and semi-feral but the more I read the more I realized he just needed a hug, good people around him, and a whole lot of therapy. He takes a huge step in dealing with his PTSD by realizing he couldn’t keep living how he was and he needed to get help. He was unapologetic about how protective he became of Alexis as they grew closer and it was a nice contrast when the rest of his personality is so rough.
Alexis was put through the ringer and some parts of her story made me nauseous to realize that people like the one who tried to kill her actually exist in our world. She was so brave when it came to facing her trauma and so fiercely stubborn when it came to helping Shane believe he deserved help.
Also …. there’s a plot twist I didn’t see coming so enjoy!
I have been enjoying this series so much. Not only does it have steamy romance, but it also has crazy mysteries with a twist at the end. I love it. This is Shane's story. The recluse that lives on the mountain. Shane's character originally appears in the first book. He's the one who found Zak and Anna's girls. Disfigured and broken, Shane's story was heartbreaking. Burrows did such a great job, setting up this storyline and bringing in all the characters from the previous books. I love that about this series. Everyone's stories from the first three books continues and evolves in each book. Even though Searching for Redemption itself is a standalone, the series, interwinds the characters together that I can't imagine reading any of these books as a standalone, much less out of order. This is the 4th book in this series that I listened to the audio version and Stephen Borne continues to be the narrator. He's phenomenal. He embodies each character and becomes them, besides the fact his voice is not only soothing but sexy as well. Shane's story does have a lot of triggers, like PTSD and rape. However, it is such a good series. I highly recommend. You will be at the edge of your seat and will not be able to put the book down. I can't wait for Veronica's story.
This one picks up right when the last one ended and it's not pretty. Alexis is in a bad place and it seems like things are getting worse for her. But the bad guys decision ended up saving her life, because given the chance at freedom, she took it and managed to find Shane.
Shane has his own issues, but he knew Alexis needed his help and he did what he could for her. It was iffy for them as the bad guy was still coming after Alexis, but Shane managed to get them both safe. From there, it seemed like the world was against Shane and he couldn't deal. He was trying hard, but almost 10 years of no one is hard to come back form, on top of all the guilt and bad feelings from his injury.
Things took a turn for the worst in the town, crazy how that turned out. By the end of the book, things are looking up for Shane and Alexis, they know the bad guy is still out there. It will be interesting to see what happens next for them, because you know Alexis won't leave things alone.

Wow! What an awesome addition to the series! Searching for Redemption is the 4th book in the Redwood Coast Rescue series. Shane lives in a cabin in the mountains,he was burned when he was a seal and he is hiding from people because of his scars. When he finds a wounded Alexis in his cabin he does everything he can to protect her. This is a beautiful written emotional read! Both Shane and Lexi are so strong after all that they went through. I absolutely loved this book!! It’s suspenseful, romantic and emotional, I had tears in my eyes a couple of times. I would recommend to read the series from the start because of the reappearing characters. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series. Highly recommended!! I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion.
This was a 3.5-4/5 for me! Most of this series is quick love (not quite insta love) but most characters already knew each other and had been circling around each other for years. Shane and Alexis’ story is a little far fetched for the short timeframe it takes place IMO. With Shane living off the grid for 9 years and avoiding society like the plague, it’s pretty hard to believe he would be deeply in love with a woman, that he didn’t know beforehand, within a few short months. Albeit they did form a trauma bond from how they met and could explain that away, it just moved too fast for my taste based on both of their traumas and his being so severe for so long. If the timeline was longer, this would have also been a 5 for me! I love this series and the awareness it brings to a lot of issues that are sometimes uncomfortable. I also love that each one has a mystery/thriller aspect.

Each one of these books has a wounded veteran and the dogs of Redwood Coast Rescue that brings them back from war to a group of former who help them and give them reason to survive. With Shane who has severe burns from a SEAL mission that went FUBAR he's lived in the woods for 9 years. When he finds Clue who has been trying to find his owner Shane will take him to the rescues vet for help but when he gets back to his cabin he'll find one of Shadow Stalkers victim with even worse wounds. Will they be able to escape each others memories of the trauma that brought them together? There will a ending no one saw coming with giving you a clue to who the shadow stalker may be. Can't wait to read Veronica's book next.
While I ended up enjoying this immensely the beginning was a bit rough. There is the whole set up to get the reader into Shane’s headspace which was great. I struggled when Lexi came on scene and she swears she is captured by stalker and he really does nothing to tell her he isnt that guy. In fact he almost perpetuated he was so see those scenes were a rough go. Anyway after that everything was wonderfully done. I enjoyed watching Shane become a better version of himself with the help of his new friends.
Overall this is a great listen. I love this series and that hook at the end makes me ready for the next. Stephen Borne is the wonderful narrator in here. He does such a good job on all the voices and is pleasant to listen to.
This is the fourth book in the Redwood Coast Rescue series, a romantic suspense. Shane and Alexis's story is emotional, suspenseful, and heart-wrenching, filled with danger, and twists and turns. Shane is enigmatic, broken, and protector. Alexis is a strong survivor, beautiful, kind, and supportive. They are opposites attract, and they are perfect together. The cast of supporting characters is impressive. I loved to see again the characters from the first book in the series. Stephen Borne did an outstanding job bringing this story to life. He has a great range of voices, and all the characters were easy to distinguish. If you like Romantic Suspense, the series is for you. This series is captivating! #StoryOrigin
Wow! What an amazing book! I loved it! 100% my favourite in the series yet. I couldn’t stop reading, it was just so good!
Shane and Alexis were the most fantastic couple, absolutely made for each other. The suspense element was great and the Redwood crew were fantastic.
Moments of sadness and shock happened on this book along with a fantastic new character I love already! Brilliant cameos from all the dogs and a welcome to Clue.
This has left me desperate for the next book- that ending!! Overall a book I recommend so much- everything I love in a romantic suspense! I already can’t wait to reread!
