You can't say no to a mistletoe kiss, no matter who's under it!
Since leaving Brookhollow and her fiancé, Luke Dawson, twelve years earlier, Victoria Mason hasn't looked back. She's traded the small-town dream of marriage, kids and family Christmas dinners for late nights working at a high-powered acquisitions firm, lunches at trendy New York restaurants and jet-set vacations on the slopes.
So her latest work assignment, to acquire Brookhollow's sporting-goods store, poses a challenge for Victoria, in more ways than one. Because it's almost Christmas, and she's got other holiday plans. And the owner is reluctant to sell. And the owner is Luke. She needs to wrap up the deal before she gets caught up in her old life and her old love…or becomes trapped under the mistletoe. Again.

The Trouble With Mistletoe is part of the Brookhollow Series by Jennifer Snow. Jennifer’s characters are all so fun to read about, easy to relate to. And the town of Brookhollow is that quaint little town that would be a dream to live in, especially at Christmas time. Well, twelve years ago, Victoria Mason might not have agreed with that statement.
Victoria and Luke Dawson had been sweethearts since about the second grade. There was never any question as to their futures. Go to college and get married. Live in Brookhollow where both their families lived and have babies. They had so many plans for their future. They dreamed of owning the Kingston mansion and raising their family there. But, two weeks before the wedding, as Victoria stared at the letter she secretly kept hidden accepting her as an intern at a huge acquisitions firm in New York City, she wondered if she was making the right choice. So she canceled the wedding, packed up and moved to New York.
Now, twelve years later, her firm wants to buy out the sporting goods store in Brookhollow. And the owner of the store is none other than Luke Dawson. Of course, Victoria is the one assigned to the job. It’s nearly Christmas so she can spend a little time with her family. But she needs to complete the sale, get Luke to sign on the dotted line, and go back to New York. The problem is, Luke doesn’t want to sell.
Luke never really got over Victoria. In the twelve years that have gone by, he has built himself up in the architectural business and is the single man on every single woman’s mind in Brookhollow. But very rarely does any woman get past the first date. He’s just not interested. Until Victoria comes back to town that is. As soon as they are face to face, that same old chemistry is there. She has always been the one for him. Now if only he could convince her of that. Maybe with the help of a little mistletoe he can remind her of what they once shared.
“That’s the trouble with mistletoe,” he said, his gaze piercing. “You can’t always control who you find underneath it.”
Luke is still driving the old pick-up truck he had when they were kids. There are a lot of memories in that old truck and he just can’t give it up. Are the memories there for Victoria as well? He does everything he can to spend time with her and try to rekindle the connection they once shared. Could he ever convince her to give up her big city life with all its glitz and glamour and come home to Brookhollow?
“Every day her company didn’t present an offer for the store was one more day he had to convince her that she belonged in Brookhollow, with him.”
Both Luke and Victoria are so stubborn, though. They never quite say what they need to say when they should say it. And as much chemistry as they share, they share equal amounts of arguments.
“Their greatest success was in messing things up between them. Would they ever get it right? Were they meant to?”
This was a sweet story of second chances and second looks at what is important in your life. And what better time to be reminded of what is important than at Christmas. With family and friends and all the twinkly lights. Will Victoria and Luke be able to figure it out?
Leaving the love of your life for whichever reason always seems like a good idea when the time comes, but as we all know years later it could come back and blow those reasons out of the water, leaving you with all kinds of doubts as to whether you made the right decision.
In this read from author Jennifer Snow she shows just how those doubts can cause confusion, heartache but also how it can lead you to a lifetime of happiness if you dare to risk it.
The read tells of Victoria, twelve years ago she left her home town and headed for the big city and a excitement filled life. But she did not only leave behind her small-town hangup's she also left behind the one man she has always loved,Luke.
Now back in town to acquire the town's sports store she knows it is going to be the most difficult deal of her life, for the store owner is Luke.
But she is determined to get in, close the deal and get out before she falls for Luke all over again, but Luke has other ideas and if he has to pretend to not want to sell the store in order to keep Victoria in town so she can see they are meant to be together, than that is what he will do, but at what cost to his heart?
The character of Luke was simply fascinating, I loved that he was kind hearted and always wanting to do good but at the same time he was also a typical man, yes ladies this one loves 'em and leaves 'em the second they get too close. This showed him pretty much as most men are when they have loved and lost the only woman who ever made their hearts beat faster, they lost her and know they need to move on but it is easier said then done and thus they enjoy the fun along the way whilst still holding onto the past and ultimately in most cases this makes them the kind of man no woman wants to get involved with, for who wants to be with a man who's heart belongs to someone else.
The character of Victoria was very nicely written and the author showed her as many woman are when faced with the past. Confused, arguing with the voices in their heads telling them "This is it he is the one, don't let him get away again", but their hearts telling them that he is not part of the dream you wanted. I really loved how the author let Victoria's conflicting emotions bounce from right to wrong , it really showed her as realistic, in real life we all know our minds never go from right to wrong immediately when dealing with our hearts, it is a back and forth battle.
The backdrop settings were vivid and very well incorporated, I loved the home-grown touch. The dialogue was pure emotion and truly heart-touching.
I am taking away a message of risking it all for a dream is not always a mistake, it can make you a better person and let you grow but when the time comes for a second chance listening to your heart and throwing caution to the wind don't run just take the risk !
I recommend this read for fans of sweet and sensual romance reads, a wonderful Christmas story of romance in a small town.
4 star review " His kisses melt away all her well planned dreams"
This is the first book that I have read and it will definitely not be the last!
A story of high school sweethearts getting a second chance, but are they really? Victoria Mason has been in love with Luke Dawson all of her life. Two weeks before their wedding, she called off it and fled from their small town to the big city of NYC for an promising internship. For the last twelve years they have managed to avoid each other whenever Victoria has returned home, which has been minimal. What started as an unpaid internship has turned into a very successful career for Victoria, one that throws her back full force into Luke's orbit. Luke has recently purchased the local sporting goods store and Victoria's big box client wants to buy him. Luke is tied up in memories and nostalgia while Victoria is intent on getting the job done so she can flee back to the city. Once Victoria starts rebuilding her relationship with her happily married with children high school girlfriends, she finds herself longing for what they have - she also still longs for her career and this big city. Can Luke and Victoria move beyond the past and rebuild their relationship or will her desire for professional success come between them once again? Throw in a little mistletoe, nostalgia, holiday memories and Christmas cheer and you have the perfect holiday romance of first love getting a second chance!
Nope. I couldn't get into it, and kept hoping the story would improve. It didn't. I thought the writing style was trying too hard (using big words or multiple words when one would have been enough). The characters weren't good, the plot wasn't exciting, and it was very whiny.
Book Review: The Trouble with Mistletoe – By Jennifer Snow
Review by Crystal J. Casavant-Otto
What’s not to love about a reunion and the possibility of a little romance? Luke and Victoria were engaged twelve years earlier and they find themselves reunited during the most romantic time of the year. Jennifer Snow delivers a charming and heart-warming story you’ll enjoy over the holidays or any time!
The Trouble with Mistletoe is set in a charming small town and this really added to the allure for me (yes…I’m a small town girl). The push and pull style attraction will speak to anyone who has felt themselves falling and tried to talk their heart out of the inevitable. Victoria and Luke are stubborn and it’s entertaining to add that dynamic to the rekindled romance. Thank goodness friends and family are there to push the relationship in the right direction!
The Trouble with Mistletoe is the first book of Snow’s I’ve read. I was certainly not disappointed. The characters are well written. The soul searching theme about deciding what really matters has the makings of a Hallmark Holiday Movie. This is a heartwarming story full of detail. Snow has a knack for ensuring just the right amount of details in her writing. I didn’t find myself thinking ‘so what if the wallpaper is faded’ and similarly I wasn’t asking ‘I wonder what that looks like’. Snow does a fabulous job giving the right specifics leaving precisely enough to each reader’s imagination.
This is a quick read. Snow writes in such a way you don’t want to put down The Trouble with Mistletoe. Putting it down is something like going for popcorn in the middle of a movie instead of before it starts. You don’t want to miss anything and can’t wait to find out what happens next.
If you happen to be traveling during the holidays and are looking for an entertaining and heartwarming read The Trouble with Mistletoe should definitely be in your carry on bag or purse. In fact, this might be just what you need even in the heat of summer, to bring back those mistletoe memories! Whenever you pick up The Trouble with Mistletoe I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

This was a heartwarming and often playful but sometimes sad Christmas story that is the start of a new series by Jennifer Snow. Victoria left Luke twelve years earlier two weeks before their wedding thinking they didn’t want the same things out of life. Since he never went after her she thought he agreed as she ran away to New York for a job offer. She managed to avoid him all that time even when occasionally returning to their small town of Brookhollow for family events and visits. Now the company she works for sends her to her hometown to acquire the local sporting goods store for a big-chain sporting store. The catch is that Luke just bought it recently and they have to deal with each other. Watching her interactions with Luke and others from her past was interesting especially since she feels she’s moved on and has outgrown small town life. But seeing her long for some of what her friends have – people they love, families, their homes, etc. – and seeing Luke living out some of their dreams hurts and makes her realize that her life might not be so fulfilling after all.
There was reminisces, reuniting with family and friends, long ago loves, romance, mistletoe, laughter, tears, heartache, emptiness, fear, sadness, revelations and small town living. There were some unexpected twists to the story, many not playful or happy, that only added to its depth. There was a happily ever after in the offing with nice closure but an epilogue would have been nice. The best part is I’ll be back in Brookhollow shortly with book two in the series, What a Girl Wants.
I’ve read several of Snow’s other books and enjoyed them and look forward to reading the rest of this series as well as other books she writes.
The Trouble with Mistletoe by Jennifer Snow is such a great read about first love and second chances. Once I started the book, I never wanted it to end. I was caught up in the character’s lives and their small town, that I wanted to jump through the pages and join in on the fun.
Victoria and Luke were supposed to get married but she had doubts and called the wedding off. She didn’t want to be stuck in their small town wondering “what it,” so she left to make a career for herself. Now that same career is bringing her back to her hometown and directly in Luke’s path. Luke owns the store that Victoria’s company is trying to acquire. Victoria needs Luke to sell the store, but he has other plans, he’s out to show Victoria that she belongs with him, in their small town.
“That’s the trouble with mistletoe,” he said, his gaze piercing. “You can’t always control who you find underneath it.”
You also have very little control over who you fall in love with. With Luke and Victoria, their attraction to each other is still very apparent and no matter how they try to get over each other and move on, it doesn’t work. They are it for each other. Luke has to be the most swoon-worthy hero. He does everything to make Victoria know how much he misses her and wants her back. As for Victoria, she’s very independent and set in her ways, but with a little help from the mistletoe, her feelings will come rushing back and sooner than later, love with trump everything else.
This book left me with a warm and cuddly feeling and I fully believe that Hallmark should turn it into a movie.
There were several things that I liked about this book. Starting with the fact that it's a nice clean Christmas romance.
The leading male character, Luke Dawson, is an all around great guy. He's always willing to help his friends and neighbors and goes out of is way to do nice things for those that need it. And even though the leading lady, Victoria Mason, was silly enough to walk away from Luke 12 years before the story starts, I never disliked her character. Both characters made mistakes in the past when they didn't reveal all of their feelings for each other. Luke does his best to let Victoria know that he still cares for her and would like a chance at rekindling their past. Through all of the ups and downs I was always rooting for Luke and couldn't wait for Victoria to figure out that she'd be better off with him than without him.
The town of Brookhollow is full of fun characters that I enjoyed reading about. I really liked all of Victoria's friends and would love to read more about them. Jennifer Snow has a few other books that are set in Brookhollow and I've already added them to my To Be Read list.
Super sweet story about finding a second chance with a past love! Loved the characters ... other than wanting to kick Victoria a few times for not seeing the awesome guy right in front of her face! :)
Victoria Mason left her small town home in Brookhollow a dozen years ago for the bright lights of New York City. She loves the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoys her high powered job for an acquisitions firm, but she's not overjoyed that it's bringing her back to the small town she left behind to make a deal ... and she's even less happy about who that deal is with!
Luke Dawson owns the sporting goods store that Victoria is in town to make an offer on ... and he's also the former fiance that she left 2 weeks before their wedding! Will she be able to get Luke to agree to the deal that will make her boss happy? And more importantly, will she be able to get it done fast enough to keep her from falling back into those old feelings that still live in her heart??
*** obsessed by books arc given for an honest review *** this story is about second chance love and life.
Victoria was gong to marry her life long sweet heart Luke, was is the word. Victoria was given an opportunity to take a job of a life time the only problem it was thousand miles away. now 12 years later her job has brought her make home and just in time for the holidays. she has to try and buy the towns sporting good store the only problem is the owner doesn't want to sell and that happens to be the love she left behind 12 years ago Luke. they start spending a lot of time together and he is determine to not let her go again. he wants to show her that they still love each other and that they are perfect together. this was a great love story. I give a 5 stary easy.
While I absolutely LOVED Luke, Victoria drove me nuts. I wanted to tell Luke to ditch her and be my boyfriend because I just couldn't get over how she treated him and her attitude to Brookhollow. I felt like Rachel's attitude to Victoria's success was meant to validate Victoria's feelings but it just annoyed me because the way she handled herself was, to me, inexcusably selfish. Jennifer Snow has a great writing style though, and Luke certainly was the draw-card that kept me reading. I also enjoyed the scenes with some of the secondary characters, they were fun and I'm excited to read Ethan's story next.
This is such a charming..Love filled.. heart-warming. wonderful story for the holidays... I have to admit I loved it so much would read any time not just for Christmas.. I truly loved this book... Sweet Story of past loves being reunited.. how many like me would love to live in a small town where everyone knows everyone.. If you love a fantastic gooey romance you have to get this book.. you will never be disappointed..Jennifer Snow you rock !!!
By the time I was finished reading this book though, I was grinning like an idiot. When I got to the last page, it left me nothing but good vibes. It was good to finally realized that I didn't need extreme situations or plotlines to have a convincingly good story. (Wow, these still exist!) I have probably burried myself in too much heavy romances that I thought this was a breath of fresh air.
I could see this being a Hallmark movie. :) This is the first book in the series and it was such a great way to start things off. I'll admit that I didn't care for Victoria much in the beginning, but she quickly grew on me! I'm glad Vic and Luke finally got their act together and you couldn't help but read with a big grin on your face. I can't wait to read the other books in the series.
Such a sweet story. I always enjoy a good reunion story and could really understand the pain they both felt. They love each other, and it's clear they belong together, but they seem to want different things. How can they make it work? A bonus is it's set in a backdrop of Christmas in a small town. A Christmas treat.
I thoroughly enjoyed this and can't wait to start the next one. I loved the descriptions - the characters are down to earth and you feel like you know them. Makes you want to move there and join their circle of friends!! Great ending too!!
This book was sweet for what it was - a simple christmas story. I would have liked to keep reading! To hear more about their lives and...Christmas Day. The ending was a little abrupt for me, but it was good for a little Christmas fluff book.
Great read! Highly recommend. Liked the characters and story flow. Liked the interaction between characters. Hard to put down. Given copy for honest review.
Worst second chance, Christmas romance I’ve ever read in 2018
Victoria definitely showed a sign that she’s finally moved on and I don’t even believe one bit that she said she still loves Luke. Why? When Luke tried to kiss her, I could feel that she vehemently didn’t want him to but being forced because hello, under mistletoe, you gotta kiss it’s tradition.
When he started forcing her to do something she doesn’t want to like something to reminisce her of the old past, I started to hate Luke. He’s being pushy and using their history to get her back instead of doing something new, stay in present to rekindle her affection.
Also to add up, they are both has zero chemistry. Not a kind of second chance romance I would wish to read ever again.
I did not like Victoria at all. She came off as better than everyone else in Brookhollow.
She left Luke two weeks before their wedding because she wanted a career and a better life than what Brookhollow could offer. She’s been with Luke for years and she suddenly realizes he’s not what she wants. Really?
I understand that women want a career and should go for it but this happened suddenly or she was leading Luke on. Then 12 years later she returns to Brookhollow to get Luke to sell his business to one of her clients. I had to push through reading this because Victoria was so selfish and annoying.
This book started off with such promise and yet, disappointed throughout the journey because of its repetitive nature. It could have ended one hundred pages earlier and been a stronger novel. The characters and the ideas behind it were good it just fell flat because it felt like you were reading in circles going over the main characters exact same worries over and over again.
