Finally, found the GR review of Flow, a webtoon I super like since I saw it the first time (well, yes. I'm a believer in love at the first sight and this is just one of the proofs). And even though I didn't quite remember when I started reading this exactly, I just finished the part 1 (Flow: Stream) like, two days ago. So here we go.
(and how come it's Honey B when it's actually Heo Ni-Bi? What's the author's name anyway?)
Let me explain the instantly like-able materials from this gorgeous manhwa:
1. PASTELS. God, I loooove pastel palettes.
2. PANELS. The panelling is the best among other webtoons, in my opinion. It's really 'flowing', and it just feels like I join the 'stream' of the story. It's even better than ToG's in its earlier chapters (ToG's beginning is so annoying that I almost abandon it if only my friend doesn't recommend it)
3. PERSONS. Good stories always have lovable characters. I love Irang (or Lee Rang, or whatever) as the MC. He has a distinct personality that makes him a good protagonist judging by his name, the way he looks, and his feelings. I also like that he loves Yulbi and gets motivated by her death to go back in time, thus pushing him to be better. His relationship with other charas--Ryun, the 'bromance'; Harin, the 'next love interest'; and other 'lower caste'--is believable and definitely enjoyable to read.
4. PLOT. Logical explanation and strong mythological base behind the fantasy, tensed conflicts naturally caused by characters' interaction, plus relatable to real world are enough the reasons.
After this, maybe I seriously consider to learn some Korean word and Hangul in order to understand the real spelling in manhwas and to be able to read SIU's blog and tweets.
Oh, and of course, I seriously recommend you to read this! Manhwa (or webtoon) is underrated, so if you love manga/anime, please give this one a chance. It's totally worth it.
I read this over the course of two days and it promptly became one of my favorite manhwa, right up there with Tower of God. There's just so much that I love about it.
The premise is is that in this world, each human is the "child" of a god, an animal spirit. These gods, ranging from animals like pigeons and sparrows to the animals of the zodiac. Each person, when they reach a certain age, is approached by their god, and they are allowed a wish that is within their god's power to grant. Society is by no means equal- only the children of powerful gods are encouraged to go on to even high school, and the children of weak gods are oppressed and bullied by those of strong gods. All in all, it's a great place to live if your god is something like a dragon, or a snake, but terrible if it's a cat or something.
The protagonist, Irang (or Leerang, depending on which translation you read), is the child of a cat god, or so he thinks. When a tragedy happens to him and he finally makes a wish, everything goes wrong and through the series, his goal is to fix what went wrong, and save his friends. Along the way, he meets even more friends, his love interest, and an enemy who's identity... well, you probably won't guess it until the end, but maybe that's just me.
Through the story, I was constantly trying to guess what was going on, and failing miserably. There was plot twist after plot twist, and they were beautifully executed. I never expected what happened in each chapter. There were also cliffhangers, so I honestly just could not stop reading. It was fantastic.
Even though the plot was amazing, the characters really made the story for me. Irang was a fantastic protagonist- he made a selfish decision in the heat of the moment in the beginning, and spent the rest of the series paying for it. He showed himself to be someone selfless by the end, and more decisive than many other protagonists I've seen. His character went from one who didn't really know what to do and being selfish and focused on only one thing to being willing to sacrifice himself to set everything right by the end, and I loved it.
Harin also had absolutely fantastic character development- I started off completely hating her, and by the end, she was one of my favorites. Like, before her character fully developed, she was one of the worst bullies in the school- she would always look down on those with "lesser" gods and she would make their lives miserable. However, after the events of the story, she changed and became nicer to everyone (even though her core characteristic- coldness- stayed the same). By the end, I loved her character (and I was seriously shipping her with Irang. Just saying.).
The other characters, even those who didn't show up that much/for a short period of time, were also well developed. Irang's friends all had their own roles and motivations, and they too crossed the boundaries of society to become friends. Even the villain had character development, in both his own storyline and in his role in Irang's life. The characters were what made this series really great.
Flow took me on a true emotional rollercoaster- one minute, I could be cracking up, and in the next chapter, I would be just about ready to keel over from shock. By the end, I was actually tearing up, which does not happen often, and that third-to-last chapter has become probably my favorite chapter of anything I've ever read (aside from a certain chapter from All Our Wrong Todays).
All in all, this was a truly wonderful work that more people need to read.
I did like this webtoon. Very tragic, angsty and painful. My favorite character is Harin...her development arc is great. But at the beginning every readers (mostly females I think) say to her that she was a bitch and she better die. Like WTF, she was exactly like Bakugo season 1, but because is a girl she receive hate and spite whereas Bakugo has a orde of simps.
"I don't care how you use the god's power. Whether you use to bully others, or for revenge, or for your dignity, or to protect someone. Just remember... you'll have to pay something equivalent to that power."
"The ones with power have to take responsibility for it."
- the art is so colourful and pretty!
- love this god-cat, seems like a mood, and Irang seems fun!
- oooh interested in the god-animal hierarchy, it's like they're humans with their daemon companions. And based on the zodiacs? NICE!
- um, yes? Living for trio friendship! I sense found family- Irang, Yulbi and Ryun
- well this got dark real fast
- is Irang more than a cat?
- this redhead- Yarin?- is nasty and cruel in her oh so "high status". I hope she gets given what she deserves through the course of this webtoon
- this is definitely growing darker each episode, can't wait to see what develops
- poor Irang, though the Yuseong's talk sounded very Uncle Ben and I love how the comments picked that up too 🤣
- that was a cool reveal for the white tiger
- this season definitely felt like an introduction to characters and idea rather than plot focused as that fell through more towards the end ready for the next season
I must say that I had some high expectations for this webtoon. I really loved the idea of the plot, but the way it was shown really didn't match up. The storyline was inconsistent and the strange chances that the villain gave the ML were quite questionable. Despite that, the ML managed to defeat the villain easily when he went back in time. There was already a huge difference in their powers yet both of them disappeared... It really doesn't match up. The ending was also extremely rushed which made me feel really confused. If he went back in time, how does he expect his lover to remember him?? Saying "You're the same as ever.." when she has never seen your face once! You turned back time remember?? She doesn't even know who you are! It is was quite frustrating trying to match up the jig saw puzzles with some missing but the emotions shown throughout really carried the story as well as the art.

This is based on the first half of season 1, as I read it by published volume and that’s how it works. I will update this later when I’ve read volume 2.
I read this to practice my Korean and I found it very interesting! It was silly at times and the art was occasionally funky, but it has darker elements. I don’t know how it’s going to go, but I’m intrigued overall.
The whole “animal racism” thing that exists in universe is like, absolutely buck wild to me and made me genuinely laugh every time I encountered it. I definitely can’t deal with it at all.
The thing is, I did not enjoy the beginning of this comic at all. The pacing was off, there were confusing infodumps, and I couldn’t remember anyone’s name or role in the story. It was, in summary, just not good.
But the third season? God-tier (pun not intended). About halfway through the Animarena arc is when it really starts to pick up, and the time travel, the villain, the plot twists, the enemies-to-lovers romance, the ending– delicious. I loved the way everything was tied back together; it made struggling through the first season and a half worth it.
To be honest, up until the end, this was quite a confusing comic that seemed to just add new things all the time, and move very quickly. However, the ending was great when everything was revealed, especially the epilogue and the Phoenix wish. So many things that happened in past episodes made so much more sense, as would be the case with any story about being able to travel to the past.
Al ver la imagen principal de esta historia nunca te imaginas en lo que estás a punto de meterte, Flow es una historia con giros inesperados, peleas increíbles y personajes bien desarrollados. Definitivamente vale la pena darle una oportunidad.
Wow. I loved this webtoon so much I couldn't get myself to stop reading. The plot is absolutely fantastic and its characters are really lovable. I loved all about it, but still I feel it was a bit confusing or chaotic at some points. But still a great webtoon.
Amazing! The first Webtoon I ever completed and also the best one. Art combined with magic is probably the best thing that humanity can have. Absolutely recommended!
4 porque el universo en que se mueve me parece horrible. Pero también es cierto que es esa ambientación la que crea la historia. Y la que, cada uno a su manera, trata de cambiar para mejor
