Book 2 in the Men of Steel series Meet Cyrus, the oldest of the Steel brothers. He's strong, independent, and damaged. But don't feel sorry for him, Cyrus likes his life just the way it is. No rules, no commitments, and no more than 3 times with the same woman. TRUTH.
Until Tara.
A child of the foster care system who can't remember ever being loved or feeling safe, Tara brings out the protective alpha male in Cyrus. And as much as he hates to admit it, something else. Something he wishes he didn't feel. Something that could weaken his resolve.
As they spend more time together, Cyrus's three-times-only-with-no-strings rule disintegrates. But Cyrus hates being vulnerable. He hates feeling weak. And so he does what any red-blooded man afraid of commitment does, he lets Tara slip through his fingers, rather than let her all the way in.
But with him, Tara is a fighter, and she's not about to give up.
CYRUS is book 2 in the bestselling erotica series MEN OF STEEL by MJ Fields.
MJ Fields is a USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance novels. She lives in New York with her daughter Miss A, smoochie faced Newfie, Theo and the newest member to the 'fields crew, rescue diva / holy terror Eleanor. When she’s not locked away in the cave, she enjoys doing home improvement projects, spending time with her family, attending live music and sporting events, the theatre, singing off key, dancing to her own beat, listening to audio books, and reading of course.
This is what happens when I buy a book with NO previous reviews. I get screwed over. Because this book was so bad and I mean horribly bad. Not even the writing was good. Christ, I should've stopped reading but nooo. I don't even know how or where to start off...how about with Tara being a weak, cry-baby heroine that does whatever her pimp wants her to do including giving blowjobs to be put on the Internet? Or how about the fact that she lets her pimp (Tony) hit her and all he has to do is apologize and she continues as if nothing happened! Oh no wait...but he says he loves her but cheats on her and she's okay with this because, you know, he imagined that he was screwing Tara so that makes it fine. Then, our hero, Cyrus, who is a huge moron and thinks he's God's gift, takes Tara to his house after he sees she's been beaten. Now you'd think he was going to look after her and help her to stand on her own two feet after everything she's been through with Tony. Oh ho, that's hilarious. Nope, he screws her, oh yes, he has sex with her that same night, taking her virginity and Tara lets him because she decided her pimp couldn't have it. But she loved her pimp, so when exactly did these feeling went away? All of the sudden, she feels Cyrus won't hurt her, and how does Cyrus repay her? He is beyond furious he was her first. He assumed because she is a stripper and almost porn star, she wasn't a virgin. He saw an opportunity in Tara to get laid and he took it. Now he regrets that decision. And All Tara does is run away with some stolen cash and apologizes for upsetting him. Oh.my.god. Is there any way to turn back in time and delete this from my head? I swear I'm usually more generous with my reviews but I can't lie. No, I just won't lie. S perhaps I am the minority here but no way am I recommending this book to anyone.

Cyrus was the second book in the Men of Steel series by MJ Fields. The series needs to be read in order.
Cyrus was the oldest Steel sibling. We learned quickly that Cyrus had a three hook up rule - three times and that was it. Like his brothers, he was a total man whore and stayed away from commitment. We also learned he was a former Navy Seal and something in his past occurred that he vowed never to repeat.
We met Tara previously as a customer of Forever Steel. We knew she was in over her head but it wasn’t until Cyrus that we experienced her full story.
Unlike the previous book, the storyline covered only a few weeks and began exactly where the previous book ended. It was heartbreaking at times but also filled with hope. And true to form, the Steel family was front and center demonstrating both the fun bantering and the loyalty bond, as the foundation for the series.
Cyrus Steel!! Just his name is a turn on and it fits his character. He is the oldest of the four Steel brothers. Cyrus does not do relationships, he had a relationship that went bad. So, he only will have sex 3 times and then it's over. Then he meets Tara, she was raised in the foster system. Her boyfriend is a sleazy loser, but, he is the closest thing to "love" she has had. So when Cyrus and Tara meet it's an instant attraction. But, as he gets to know her and thankfully save her from her boyfriend, he learns more about her, and he becomes the alpha male that he is and wants to protect her. But, he does not want a relationship, but his feelings tell him otherwise. Chapter 15, his brother Zander had me LOL!! I love the brothers banter! This story line is filled with unexpected surprises, especially from Tara. I went through so many feelings listening to this book, I got happy, excited, I cried and I laughed out loud!! It's loaded with non stop page turning drama, tragedy and love. Emotions, healing, romance and laughter and hot love scenes. Cyrus' character is the perfect guy any girl would want and Tara is just perfect for him. I'm so happy that Cyrus and Tara realized they were made for each other, they healed each other, and I just want more of this storyline, maybe an Epilogue.
A-MA-ZING!! Excellent book Ms. Fields!!! I truly loved it!!
Cyrus totally surprised me in this book. He was kind of mysterious in all the previous books, but Boy Howdy, did he shine in this book!!! And Tara, his little Birdie, was just out of this world! There wasn't anything about this book I would change!! (Now if Jase had just been more like this....oh my Lordy...be still my heart!!) ;)
This book picks up where the previous book ended so it is easy to picture where everyone in the Steel family is living, working, etc.... We met Tara in the last book, and might I say, that was quite a character introduction!! ;) (I was hoping she would become the one to show us the kind of man Cyrus is to his family and friends--loyal, fierce, protective, strong, brave, loving, and caring do not even begin to cover the depth of this man). He is broken like Jase, but just in a different way. He keeps his hurt close and only wants to show Birdie as he gets to know this beautiful, but equally broken woman. Her life was one that was heartbreaking. She has been searching for love and happiness and has made some not so great choices in who she put her trust into, but once she meets Cyrus, she is drawn to him like no other! Its also great to see more of the guy's mother, Momma Joe, and learn more of her story as well. Of course it was equally great to see Carly, Jase, Little Bell, and the return of Zandor. I missed Abe though and would have liked an update on Carly's crazy family.
Ms. Fields had hit her stride in this beauty!! I cannot wait for more!! ;)
MAN. I fell. AGAIN. DAMN. You're good Ms. Fields...
Jase is my Sweet butterscotch caramel boyfriend and Cyrus *fans self* is my protector lover who makes me feel treasured. Joe did gooood! Her sons are AMAZING.
The men in Fields's books are.. G(osh)-DAMN LOVABLE! No lie. I'm in love. I want Zandor now. He was very Dom-like, oh-my.. what a treat he'll be;-9
I also very much liked Tara. Thank you for Tara. Thank you for Cyrus. Thank you for their relationship. Lol. Friends. They seriously ARE very great friends. And loving, completely loving, of one another. I will patiently wait for the next book.
Editing and spelling can be done in here but I won't complain much or anything since I got what I wanted (and MOREEEEEEEEE), which is Cyrus's speedy publish and one heck of a read.
These two people are the most unlikely pair ever. However opposites attract and work in this instance. Birdie aka Tara is just feeling unloved for most of her life. Unfortunate events happened to her and led her to a drug dealer. He took advantage of Birdie at every corner unbeknownst to her. Luckily for Birdie she captured the eye of Cyrus Steel. He is former military hero that’s denying ownership of his past and taking on more guilt than he should. Birdie completes Cyrus in a way no female has. However, Cyrus feels he is too broken for love . . . . Read On!
I love this series so much. And since it's set in New Jersey (the shore) I love it even more. Man these Steel men are so hot and Cyrus is scorching hot. I also loved Tara!! I can not wait for the next book maybe a little novella like the author wrote for Jase and Carly? Please??!!
Same general concept as the first book. Cyrus has sworn he will never be in a relationship and of course, he meets a naive, virgin he can’t resist.
My Thoughts: - Cyrus’ attitude about his three rules bothered me. It just made him seem so disrespectful towards women in general. I struggled sometimes with him. When he was vulnerable he was great. But sometimes he was just an ass. - Tara was somewhat immature. I understand she had a more difficult path to adulthood, and for that reason it seems like she would have more “street smarts” and not be so naïve. Sometimes I felt like there was a bit of a disconnect between her background and her actions. - there’s a story in here, and I was interested in the story. However the writing felt a bit stilted and their conversations didn’t flow well sometimes and it detracted from my enjoyment. - I liked that the secondary characters were quite a big part of this book. However, if you didn’t read book 1, you might not understand some of the players. - I was lured into the story at the beginning with the abusive boyfriend and Cyrus’ protective instincts. Once the ex was out of the way and all resolved (which happened pretty quickly), it was less action packed and became boring in spots. - Tara is abused and rescued and then loses her virginity to a virtual stranger the same night she is rescued??? Ummm....no. It made Cyrus seem like a jerk and Tara seem loose and easy. - Once again, a ton of grammar and spelling errors.
Honestly, I don’t know why I read this book. I wasn’t really a fan of Cyrus based on previous stories (novellas & Book 1) and the writing just isn’t what I’m used to. But here’s the kicker...I kind of want to continue the series and I don’t know why. 🤷♀️ I’ve rated the novella’s really low and the first 2 books 3 stars each. So I’ll probably skim through some of book 3 to see if it interests me. I seem to have a hate/intrigued relationship with this series.
Birdie has a very difficult back story and she comes across very naive, especially compared to Cyrus who has seen everything going in the world and all the bad it can bring to good people. Cyrus needs to protect and Birdie needs to be protected.
As the story progresses Birdie does start to find her feet and her personality starts to mature but I really dislike when the heroine only sees their life being fulfilled if the the hero is back in their life. That's one thing that MJ Fields seems to do in her stories from what I've noticed.
Cyrus is much more mature than Jase which is why I liked his character more but Birdie wasn't my cup of tea. I think he needed someone who was more sure in themselves and what they could bring to the table. I want to carry on with Zandors book to see how his love story grows but I'm not falling in love with the series so far.
Next brother up in the Men of steel series, Cyrus. These books are not super long, only a few hundred pages - so almost a bigger novella. With such a short story you get more of insta-love but I still really liked the characters and how they fell for each other. I am also a sucker for a large family of brothers - so the added family vibes is what will probably push me through this box set in the long run!
Sometimes it felt like it jumped around in their falling for each other instead of building. I can't figure out if this has something to do with how all these books were written in stages years ago....not sure, were they?? Also to note this series started in 2013 - I am sure this was quite edgy for that time when all the NA and erotica were emerging and alphaholes were a new thing. In 2021 these types of characters and romances are abounding - so I am eager to see how this author evolves as I make my way through her books!!!
I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review. I gave this book 5 stars. This is book 2 in the Men of Steel Book. Let me say this too .. this can be read as a stand alone. BUT i would suggest that you read the 3 books before this. Yes this is number two but there is a .05-- a 1 and a 1.5 to be read. You will get a little confused and probably not enjoy it as much if you read this one first.
This is Cyrus and Tara's story.
Here we go... Cyrus is a troubled alpha male, who is not all about candy and flowers. He is blunt and says how it is. Tara, I loved her she is such a strong female character who has just got bad things out of life, and is looking for more, needing more. These two together are life on fire!
I read Jase before I read this and I was a little scared that I wouldn't enjoy it as much because Jase is .. I mean come on it's Jase. but Cyrus was just wow. So much different then his brother, but just as toxic .. These bad boys are an inferno !!
What do you get when you put an alpha male together with a girl that is just as strong. You get Cyrus and Tara and a whole lot of OMG's !!
Tara is tired of being hurt and Cyrus is just the man she needs to stand up to her and tell her how it is, how beautiful she really is. And the soft part of Tara? Yeah Cyrus for sure needed her.
When we are introduced to her in Jase's book I just knew she was going to be a strong character and needed to be with one of the Steel men. They need to have strong leading ladies that won't let them get away with all their crap. And she is just the girl to do it. She has been hurt in life but that doesn't mean that she is not a feisty firecracker. Yes it is tough to love Cyrus, but what better female to do it.. He is going to be hard to tame. But it is going to be fun reading him learn how to be!! haha!! Come on Cyrus' journey as he falls in love with Tara. And see what love is all about.
Thank you MJ for your amazing, wonderful stories. This is not the first that I have read from you and it def will not be my last! Do NOT ever stop writing you have such a gift!!! <3 I look forward to reading the next one!! I am just going to be so sad when we run out of brothers. Momma Joe sure did a good job with all these beautiful men!!!
I can’t really do a review without mentioning the first three books in the series – 0.5 Men of Steel, 1 Jase, 1.5 Jase and Carly: Summer Lovin’ and of course 2, Cyrus.
I hadn’t heard of this author or these books until the tour came up and I am so very glad because I love a hot tattoo, pierced bad ass **swoon**
First we meet Jase and Carly in Men of Steel Novella, followed my Jase a full length book. During these books we get to meet their families and Jase’s family sounds so hot and foul mouthed.
Both these books had me crying with laughter in places because they had some friggin hilarious bits thanks to Carly.
While reading these, I could not wait to get to Cyrus’ book and it was so worth waiting for.
Cyrus is an ex seal with a whole lot of attitude, until you’re someone he loves. He meet’s Tara initially through Carly during the book Jase and I just knew they where going to end up together.
Cyrus rescues her from an unpleasant situation and has trouble keeping his hands to himself, although Tara never complains. He tries to distance himself from her, but he’s always drawn back to where she is and he’s the only one who finds her when she runs thinking he’s better off without her, which ends up being the reason why he turns his back on her toward the end.
He is one badass guy with a heart of gold along with his brothers whose stories I can’t wait to read. Each book has a HEA (Happily Ever After) so basically NO cliffhanger.
I wish I could give these books 6 stars because I loved them and they sure got me out of the reading funk I was in, although I’m probably going to be back in it now. I loved them and can’t wait for more from this series.
Saying that, I have to mention that constantly saying ‘she shook her head yes’ drove me crazy because where I come from shaking your head means NO and nodding your head means yes, I also felt lost once or twice and had to flit back to see if i've missed something because the story did jump a bit and there where words missing and grammar problems. i.e. had'nt instead of hadn't and spaces between punctuation. I'm terrible at grammar, but even I spotted these.
Cyrus is the oldest of the Steel brothers, and like most of them he isn't interested in relationships. In fact, he has a 3 ride rule before you are forced to move on. That rule is going to be tested when he meets Tara, aka Birdie. She's a sweet girl that is in a world of trouble. There is just something about her that calls to his protective spirit.
This book had some hot parts, but the characters bugged me a bit. Perhaps it is because I had expectations since I read book 1 and 4 already. Tara's character just annoyed the hell out of me - she plays the wounded bird well, but I grew tired of it. There were aspects of Cyrus's character from the previous book that never appeared in this one, and I was hoping they would. This one was just average for me.
I read Jase (Men of Steel #1) right before I read Cyrus. I really enjoyed Jase’s story, but I absolutely LOVED Cyrus’s story! Cyrus immediately struck me as a troubled alpha male but as the story proceeded, I realized just how troubled he was. The book kept you wondering if he could ever move on from his past in order to allow himself to love Tara like he should.
Tara was a troubled soul herself. With the loss of her family and the struggles she had faced over the years in the foster system, she had every right to be troubled. She was the type of character that I love to see though, no matter how difficult her circumstances, she wanted to be better and wanted to love and be loved.
The journey that faced these two in the book was a very emotional one. I enjoyed every minute of the book. I loved reading more about Jase & Cyrus’s family. I also enjoyed that music was a part of the story. I love books that include music. The book made me laugh and cry at times but most of all, it made me want to keep reading. That, to me, is the sign of a great book. When I can’t put it down (or in my case–go to sleep), then I know I have a good book! I can’t wait to read more in this series and learn more about the Steel brothers! Five stars all the way on both Jase and Cyrus!
Cyrus by M.J. Fields had me extremely confused at the beginning, and I believe some of that contributes to the fact that maybe this is not a standalone. Characters were in and out, with no background at all. I couldn't follow some of the events that took place, because the topic changes were so frequent. There were times when some of the wording confused me a bit. When it was Cyrus' POV there seemed to be a lot of rambling and ranting going on, which added to my initial confusion. I read a lot of romances where the hero is a bad ass, womanizing, douche bag, but he eventually redeems himself in the end and I fall in love with his character. With Cyrus, I didn't get the end game with him. I didn't fall in love, which was sad because of how he helped out his Birdie. I just didn't get the fluttering in my stomach when there was interaction between the main characters.
I liked the storyline. It was heartbreaking and emotional, but again, it didn't stay with me all the way through. I feel like this author's style of writing has potential, but I can't recommend this book.
Cyrus is a little harsher than Jase but the man does things out of love he just doesn't know how to show that love properly, "I paid for half an hour with you. I don't expect s*** from you, but I do expect you to tell me if something my shop did is hurting you. If it's infected Birdie you need someone to check it out." Sometimes he's a man that's all bark and does it for good reason and has Tara's best interests at heart, "I couldn't let go, I wouldn't," No Birdie, you cry damn it. Just effing cry." Cyrus isn't a man with romance in his body he's more for bluntness and showness, "I think you're effing gorgeous, so I'm gonna work on not wanting to bang you, and you're gonna work on ugly alright?" I liked Cyrus just not as much as Jase.
So… this is a tough one. This book was nothing like the first book. We didn’t get that slow build up, we didn’t get that wooing phase, that time spent on character growth.
Instead we get thrown into Tara’s life hard and fast. Her situation could almost be labeled as her being trafficked, manipulated yes and the list goes on. Cyrus has had a thing for this girl since she first turned him down. Her flighty jumpy nature seemed to be a beacon for him because he can’t seem to leave her alone. which in turn causes trouble for her with her current boyfriend aka almost pimp.
The family comes together to rally around these two. when they all get together the jokes and put downs get to going that you can’t help but laugh and smirk. The chemistry between these two is very strong. Tara is very innocent in spite of her circumstance. Cyrus has some impenetrable walls built up and has this rule to protect himself. 3 ride wild. that’s it you get 3 times and then done.
we did eventually get some character growth on both sides and I really liked the ending on this. I don’t love when women go through something traumatic and after the white night comes in to save the day they have the spiciest night of their life?? It just seems like it’s not handled with care and a bit insensitive.
That being said I liked Cyrus but the storyline was a bit crude. It will be very interesting to see how Zander’s story goes since they have already eluded to him being involved in the BDSM scene. One thing I can say is you probably won’t get the same 2 story lines in this series which is great. It’s nice when the authors really give each person in the group separate personalities.
Narrators did a great job! the book was definitely spicy.
This book was painful for me. I pushed myself to finish it and I don't even know why. In theory I liked the plot, in practice I didn't like the execution, the characters or anything happening here. It just was for me. I usually enjoy cheering for heroine overcoming a difficult start but I couldn't here. She was not likable and the hero was even worse. This definitely wasn't for me.
Una storia meravigliosa di cambiamento, di guarigione e di rinascita che fa battere il cuore, che fa sognare e che fa provare mille sensazioni diverse. Consigliatissimo.
Yummy deliciousness. Sizzling. Yup. That is Cyrus. And his brothers. Like chocolate covered bacon...that yummy.
Cyrus and his brothers own a tattoo parlor and a shit load of other stuff. They are loaded but no one really knows cause they keep it on the down low. Cyrus has a many tattoos. Tattoos with meaning. A sleeve with hidden pictures like a Bell for his niece. He is a living breathing Highlights Magazine Hidden Picture. Remember the ones from the doctor's office waiting room. Find the fish. Find the hammer. Yes. That is Cyrus. He has hidden pictures and a hidden past that he doesn't share with anyone. It is that which shall not be spoken. He also has a rule. Three times with one woman and then he is gone. Third strike...you are out.
Tara is a stripper. Well, not really. She works at a strip club and is an amateur porn star. Not by her choice. She has a dirt bag boy friend. One that does not have her best interest at heart.
I remember the childhood rhyme "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me." Whoever came up with that had good intentions....Being bullied, being emotionally abused and manipulated by Tony was worse than any beating he could have given me.
When Cyrus sees Tara he sees someone whose family would be highly upset by her current living conditions. He makes Tara a promise that he will help her get back on her feet, back to being safe and then he will leave her alone. He doesn't let her get past 2 strikes.
Tara and Cyrus both need someone to believe in them. But can they let each other in? Tara can't let Cyrus know that she has no one who cares what she does. Cyrus keeps trying to convince Tara that he is not a good guy. And what happens when she is safe. When he has fulfilled his promise. Can he walk away?
Ms Fields writes a long book. And she gives you prequel and sequel novellas to get you through the withdrawal symptoms of missing the Steel Brothers. And you will miss them. They are large and intertwined. And lets not forget about that cover. OMG. Love the cover. And the inside matches up. With Sizzle!
***** I received an ARC copy for an honest review *****
I just finish reading this book, and let me just say that I am totally in love with the series, I had read the first book that where the story of Jase and Carly, this is the story of Cyrus, and let me just say that I don't know which brother I am loving more right now, I love the characters, in this book made me laugh, Cried, and some time mad but I love every single minutes of it, in this boom you will find comedy, drama, Hot Sex.
The story start with Tara (A.K.A.) Birdie, Tara loss her parents at the age of five, when she turned the right age to be off the system she met Tony, for the last two years Tony has being using her, and telling her that his in love with her, that's all she being believing for the last two years, one night she when to the tattoo shop with her co-workers, that was the first time that Cyrus saw her, that night she met Carly at the club.
That night she end up at Cyrus house, when Cyrus saw her he new she was different, since that night he found himself thinking of her, more often after one night the shop got vandalize, and Cyrus knew who had done it, once that day he when on a mission to get Tara away from her ex boyfriend, that was the night that Tara finally open her eyes and saw who Tony really is, what they did not expected was the pull that he was feeling for her that night their life change.
I love the way that Cyrus and Tara act with each other, love it how protective and possessive he was feeling for Tara, and how he knew that he needed to be there for her, love it how Tara did not put up with his crap and how she stand up to him, and how she was so interested in his tattoo and how she saw through them and knew what they are.
I really love and enjoy this book a lot, and I am gone say it again Author M.J. Fields THANK YOU for this amazing characters and this awesome book. Love it cant wait for the next book.
I thought I loved Jase, but then I met his brother Cyrus and I was a goner! I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down! Cyrus has one rule with his women, three times and he's done.. he doesn't want strings attached and thinks he's not good enough for a relationship. When Tara (aka "Birdie") ends up in his life, something about her makes him want to protect her, and take care of her.
Tara is mixed up in some pretty horrible crap and when her boyfriend catches her talking to Cyrus, he goes crazy! Cyrus finds out and goes to get her out of the life she is living, only for her to run away on him. I knew the minute he went looking for her, that as much as a he didn't want to admit it, he definitely felt something for this girl.
I loved how their "Friendship" evolved and how much we got to see Tara grow in this book. At first I thought she was a naive little girl, and maybe she was, but through out the book she really grew and became a strong woman knowing what she wants out of life. I felt for her on so many levels and was happy to see her get a HEA!
Cyrus and Tara do not have a relationship is easy, and everyone but Cyrus can see how he feels about Tara, but I loved that up until the end you really did not know if this was going to work for these two. It was funny to see him finally get some sense knocked into him. I love these men in this series and can't wait to see what the other brothers have in store for us. Cyrus is a stand alone, but I recommend reading Jase first so you can meet him and Carly, as they do make appearances in this book. I am quickly falling in love with M.J. Fields' books and will be putting her on my "Must Read" list for anything she releases.
I am going with 3.7 to 4 stars. I do believe Fields has great potential and will continue to hone her writing skills. She does an excellent job of writing a true alpha male. Cyrus was quite the manho but let every girl know up front it.was a 3 time deal and no more. We met Tara a bit in the last book and I will say at times she frustrated me. The entire issue with Tony and the porn seemed quite real but then became less believable. How could she not know what Tony was doing to her through those videos? I understand her very limited life experiences but it was as if she had been under a rock at times. For me at times, she was too needy.
I was thankful to watch her growth as a woman towards the last part of the book. I enjoyed their little dance around the 3 time deal. I truly laughed out loud at her first job and the NEW employee rules. As Christoph read aloud ALL of the new rules, including new work outfits, no fraternization, and lunch served each day, I just chuckled. Poor Cyrus. He was fighting so hard what was right in front of him.
I appreciated the woman that Tara became when she laid it ALL out there to Cyrus before he left for Italy. She could have fallen apart, but she took the time to grow into herself, learn to take care of herself and be independent. I really liked that for her.
The ending is a sweet one and Cyrus takes the plunge. Him as a Tin Man was so cute and his jealousy over Christoph was hilarious! We also got a nice set up for Zandors' book!!
