Continues the saga from the Eden plague until now in space, very entertaining and once I got into the series I have to admit I have been reading the books in order for the last few months, I think I only have 5 more books to go, as an avid sci-fi fan I think these series of books are excellently written, not overwhelmingly descriptive so as to become boring but gripping action sequences keeps you wanting more.
Have now read the complete set of this great earth/space adventure and I can honestly say it has kept me enthralled throughout the entire set of each series
Excellent series and very unique in the apocalyptic genre. Plagues, aliens, nuclear war, EMP’s, bigots, good and bad humans, etc - all brilliantly combined in this series. The only slight niggle - and it is verybslight - is that it feels unfinished, in that there could well be future issues. Don’t want to say more as don’t like spoilers! Excellent series overall.
Kobo (isbn 9781626260692) edition has the alternate kindle cover with cityscape in foreground with the 'DeathStar' rising behind...
A rather longer book than some of the previous volumes, as becomes the last in the series of alien invasion prelude, this covers some nine years as the Earth prepares to meet the expected arrival of a Meme Destroyer. While the narrative features sequences with familiar characters we also have new chracters, some in longer threads than others (who don't survive). In addition we have a Meme-eye view of proceedings from the disgraced Survey team survivors - and I am once agin amused by the human race being Species 666 to the Meme, with the associated doomsday meaning attached to that number.
The long time scale gives some idea of the problems with battles in space, which are well plotted and appear realistic. I've now almost caught up with where I erroneously began - just a volume of shorts and I can reread First Conquest...
I just posted a review about this series on the Cyber Strike page. So here I will say, strap in and hold on! Humanity is about to show you that this is our planet and we intend to stay here and keep it. Forge and Steel next. Then I'm going to get my Asteroid into the Stellar Conquest Series. Mr. VanDyke has turned me into a Meme stomping addict. I have to know what happens next.
Too much technical detail for my liking, hence 4/5 stars (have to admit I skimmed through those parts) but I did enjoy the rest. Even though some of it seems a bit far fetched, who knows what's out there and what the future could hold.
