The last book in the series:

If you've gotten this far in the series, you know the formula: Haakon is off on an adventure, but bad people try to invade his home while he's gone. But it still works as entertainment.

First Haakon goes to Ireland to re-acquire his father's lands. He leaves some of his people and Rosamund there to hold the place.

Haakon, at Thor's direction, is off to the west and has adventures (conflict) along the way. Eventually arrives at America (long before Columbus or maybe even Lief Erickson and further south). Yes, there are "skraelings" there.

Meanwhile, Rosamund's father decides he wants Haakon's Irish land and sails from England to seize it.

What happens to both Haakon and Roseamund is the conflict and the fun parts of the story. And it's fun to read.

The cover, while very enticing, has some problems: Haakon has dark hair and the fight depicted doesn't take place on rocky ground.

Another adventurer for the Viking Haakon and his men. In this book Haakon is once again filled with historical events combined with fiction. Haakon under Thor guidance to set his eyes to the west to the 'New World'. Here Haakon is forced to deal with Native Americans and the discoveries of the Americas. While the book is fiction the ideas of culture and even events of history are very much real. The Vikings were one of first, if not the first Europeans to discover the Americas. I really enjoyed reading this series and has increased my love of the Viking culture and history. Eric Neilson has done a great job with research and writing this series. I recommend this series to any that find Vikings as interesting or to those that believe the Vikings were just barbarians as history once taught.
