Mike Carey was born in Liverpool in 1959. He worked as a teacher for fifteen years, before starting to write comics. When he started to receive regular commissions from DC Comics, he gave up the day job.

Since then, he has worked for both DC and Marvel Comics, writing storylines for some of the world's most iconic characters, including X-MEN, FANTASTIC FOUR, LUCIFER and HELLBLAZER. His original screenplay FROST FLOWERS is currently being filmed. Mike has also adapted Neil Gaiman's acclaimed NEVERWHERE into comics.

Somehow, Mike finds time amongst all of this to live with his wife and children in North London. You can read his blog at www.mikecarey.net.

Wetworks felt like it had some of the most potential from the Image Revolution, but it was one of the biggest disappointments.

Part of the Worldstorm (with Grant Morrison on Wildcats/Authority, Gail Simone on Gen13, Garth Ennis on Midnighter and Brian Azzarello on Deathblow), Carey's stab at Wetworks is definitely an improvement from the original series, but still isn't able to make great comics.

It's a WEIRD team (almost like a version of the Midnight Sons) but Whicle's art is hard to read at times. He certainly didn't grow much as an artist.

I would rate it about a 3.5 *, it has been years since I read a Wetworks book, back in the old Image/Wildstorm days. It was nice to see some discussion of old characters from the early series.
The story began as an interesting mystery, and introduced an interesting villain. Art is amazing, story was a little difficult to follow at times, interesting action sequences but they were few & far between.

Cool characters but the story just wasn't convincing. Felt like it needed a significant backstory to lure one in.

So I have never heard of Wetworks before this. I hadn't read anything in the Wild Storm universe. However, I think I may need to follow some of this.

So there are the gold guys and they haven't worked together since whenever the last series ended. But now they are being brought back together to fight evil. There are other dimensions full of evil and something got out. Those dimensions are usually good about keeping their evil in but sometimes the heroes just have to come out and play.

I am missing so much backstory with this series but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless. Super heroes (that aren't wearing tights), personality clashes, demons, and pulling a team back together? Definitely not bad.

So the book says 'Wetworks Book One', but there's a whole first volume that takes place before this and unfortunately it's quite apparent that you should've read it before tackling this one. Way too much stuff needed a backstory in this that left me scratching my head. Sorry, I just couldn't get into it.

Pretty solid reinvention. Love the artwork and think that the story and characters finally started to realize the horror genre potential.
