[Siren Everlasting Classic Erotic Alternative Fantasy Romance, M/M, elves, HEA] People think that waiting in your tower for a dashing prince to rescue you is romantic. Believe me, that's overrated. I should know. My name is Rapunzel Stiltskin, and for years my father kept me locked in a tower. And then my path unexpectedly crossed that of Arthurian prince Medwin. Medwin is my perfect match. He understands me, and he doesn't freak out when my obscenely long tresses trip him or knock over various items. He also does things to my body that make me ask questions I almost don't dare to answer. Am I a maiden? That's what my father claimed, but if that's the case, I'm not a very maidenly one. Medwin doesn't think I'm female at all, and I believe him, especially when my libido responds to him in such a distinctively male--ahem--way. Now... If only my hair would leave us alone long enough for us to consummate our mating. Wait... Why is Medwin suddenly a frog? This book is written in first-person point of view. ** A Siren Erotic Romance
Scarlet Hyacinth was born in 1986, in a Romania still struggling under the weight of the communist regime. As a young girl, she started studying the English language and fell in love with books. After a childhood spent devouring hundreds of pages of fantasy literature, Scarlet found her calling. While at uni, she discovered with the help of a dear friend that she had a knack for writing. The rest, as they say, is history, or rather, lots of hard work and sleepless nights. Today, she can only say with a smile that nothing is impossible and that no matter what others say, you can achieve your dreams if you work hard enough.
This third book continues the entertaining, sometimes hilarious set of stories from the magical lands of Arthuria and Merlinia. Magic abounds, which is not good for the Arthurians who have none, or at least not enough to stop a magic attack. The secretive and much-feared Lord Rumpel Stilskin tries to make life impossible for Rapunzel, the son he has raised to think he is a girl. And poor prince Medwin, just having escaped the clutches of an evil witch posing as a Merlinian princess, now has to face the fact that the man he loves has gender identity issues. What a set-up for yet another amazing story in this series!
Rapunzel, as in the original fairy tale, has been locked up in the tower ever since he was a child. Slightly different from the original, other than his gender, are the reasons why his father, the mysterious Lord Rumpel Stitskin, has kept him locked away for all that time. I loved the explanation, which is ingenious, but can’t tell you about it since it would be a huge spoiler. Just let me say it opens up the stage for a far more intricate back story and further complications in this series than I thought. Rapunzel's struggle with his gender identity, figuring out what was truth and what wasn't, were manfully supported by Prince Medwin. I loved Rapunzel and his first hesitant steps into making a new life in Arthuria, now that he finally escaped the tower, and free to determine what that looks like for the first time in his life.
Medwin is very grateful to Rapunzel for breaking the curse the evil witch had cast upon him so he would marry her. He quickly finds out he feels a lot more than gratitude toward Rapunzel, and falls head over heels in love. But, gentleman that he is, he decides to wait however long it takes Rapunzel to figure out who he is before he makes his move. The threat that separates them has him flummoxed at first, and he has no idea how to fight it, but his determination and cleverness win out and he charges ahead, just like he should. He is a prince, after all, and has certain standards to uphold!
If you know your fairy tales but would like to see a slightly different take on them, if you enjoy reading about mates who fall for each other at first glance only to discover they have a major fight on their hands if they want to stay together, and if you're looking for a read that is as funny as it is hot, then you will probably like this novella. As always, I'm already looking forward to the next one.
NOTE: This book was provided by Siren Publishing for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews.
I swore I would never read another book by this author but since it was the BOM I decided I would go back on my promise.
Oh man, this is really a ridiculous story - I think it's meant to be silly - and it is - so ridiculous. I tried really hard to be entertained I swear I did.
Life is too short to read books that you can't unread.
Classic Siren tale. A type of salacious penny dreadful.
Not a book to be taken seriously at all. I had an amusing time reading this. Rapunzel spent a lot of his time blushing like the virgin bride he thinks he is. Virgin yes. Female...not so much. Medwin, however, treats Rapunzel like a precious princess.
2.5 stars I get that this is supposed to be ridiculous but it’s just kind of dull in my mind. It’s not that they’re badly written but it’s just every over done phrase, no sense of the world other than splat here it is. Mixing in references to literature and legend in and of itself doesn’t make something clever so while it’s supposed to be ironic and funny it just felt flat to me.
I'm going to keep this brief. This book set out to ruin my childhood and it came very close to doing so. You got oddly use to the book the the time the ending came around so in a weird way it was an alright book, but it took A LOT of getting use to.
For the most part I was mildly annoyed rather than amused. I've always enjoyed Piers Anthony nonsense, but this nonsense was just nonsensical, disorganized, confusing, and/or pointless by turns. Ohhhhhh, and this was one SERIOUS chick-with-dick character. Granted, he started out with some excuse for that, but he remained so and even got worse in some ways -- -- as the story progressed. And the whole thing was in SERIOUS need of a good editor.
I did enjoy the hair, however. And the froggie armor wasn't bad.
For those who care, the story does include male pregnancy, starting with a secondary character.
Well, I don't know if I was supposed to laugh out loud while reading this story but it was so bizarre, I just had to do it. Quirky little simple tale based on Rapunzel only with a male Rapunzel who falls in love with a prince who is then turned into a frog. When I was a kid there was a cartoon called Fractured Fairy Tales. This story should have that subtitle.
Had it not been a BOM, I wouldn't have read it. Had it not given me a laugh I wouldn't have rounded up from 2.5 stars, but it did, so I did.
2.5 Stars - While the first half of this book was curiously devoid of sex (for a Siren Novel), the second half made up for it. The pacing was also a little off with some parts feeling rushed and others dragging on. Overall it was a cute play on the fairy tales. I feel I lost some understanding by reading it out of series order, but nothing to terrible out of place.
