The fourth book in Heather Blake's Wishcraft Mystery series, The Goodbye Witch, combines a well written cozy mystery with the paranormal. The charming town called the Enchanted Village isn't at all what it seems sometimes and Blake makes readers believe that wishes can come true there. Great character development and pacing make this book a perfect read for the lounger or the porch swing. A great addition to the series!
What I liked:
It's official... I want to live in the Enchanted Village. Heather Blake has made this little town so accessible to her readers that they literally would love to find a town like it and move right in. I always enjoy the way that Blake makes the village come alive with great descriptive passages and characters that seem like old friends. The Goodbye Witch is the fourth book in the series and as a reader I still feel like I am always finding something new about the town or it's inhabitants.
I loved the fact that this installment focuses on Starla and Darcy's best friend. These two have been close all along and Starla always seems to know the right thing to do or say and now she's the one in trouble. I liked the idea of blind faith, and how Darcy was utterly convinced that Starla could never hurt anyone including her ex-husband who had tried to kill her in the past. It showed the depth of their friendship and how important Starla was too Darcy and to the series in general. I like it when an author lets the mystery hit close to home.
Darcy, as usual, has an interesting way of going about figuring out each crime and whodunit. In this one, there plenty of suspects and motives and Darcy has a lot of evidence to work with. I liked seeing the whole gang of Darcy's family and friends trying to save one of their own. It worked well with the story and I thought Blake did a great job of placing her red herrings strategically to keep the reader a little off balance. I figured it out before the end, but not too far ahead. I was very satisfied by the ending and thought that this was probably the best in the series so far.
What I didn't like:
There were a couple of points when I felt like the story dragged a little bit and I wanted to push ahead, but that's just the mystery reader in me. I want to see if I've got it all figured out, like most readers do.
Bottom Line:
This was a fun read. It had some good underlying themes, like strong friendship and blind faith. Blake's books seem to improve with each one in the series and I like this one best so far. I want to live in the
Enchanted Village so I think it's safe to say this is a good read.

I really enjoy a cozy mystery with a sound plot, humor, and quirky characters.
This one delivers just what I ordered. Nothing serious, complicated, or too intense.
Each book in the series has its own murder to solve and characters to get to know.
I was able to access this book series on my Kindle at no charge through my local public library.
And they all end with a H.E.A.

Really enjoy this series. Darcy finds herself in a case where she's having to help Starla, who is visited by her ex-husband who's on the run. In the end things work out for Starla and Darcy figured out the case.

I have been totally and utterly fascinated by this series since the beginning but this one topped them all. Blake has created the ultimate world to escape into. The Enchanted Village is a magical place that wishes can come true. I wish I could live there myself.
The series has a wonderful cast of characters. Darcy is not only a wishcrafter, she is a strong woman. She has a great relationship with Police Chief Nick who understands her craft because his daughter is a wishcrafter too. Aunt Ve is helping Darcy learn more about her gift along with Darcy’s sister Harper. The all believe everything Starla is telling them, they just need to figure out how Kyle is doing it. They are assisted by some truly magical characters, Pepe, a mouse who can sure thread a needle, and Archie, a talking parrot who can remember any line from almost any movie ever made.
My favorite character though was Mrs. P. (Mrs. Pennywhistle) This lady touched by heart. She wanted to do anything she could to help Starla and all her friends even when she wasn’t physically able.
There are several subplots marvelously woven into the main storyline. The Goodbye theme is carried throughout the entire story. I don’t want to say more because you need to read this and discover it yourself. Just keep a tissue handy. This is the first cozy mystery I can remember reading that made my cry.
Heather Blake has written a wonderful, sensational, awesome story. It deserves way more than 5 stars!!

Darcy Merriweather is a resident Wishcrafter in an Enchanted Village. What does that mean? She has the power to grant people their wishes, as long as it's approved by the elders. But right now, the only thing Darcy wishes is that she had the power to help her best friend a fellow witch uncover her invisible husband.
Starla never really thought she would see her ex-husband again. Not since the night he tried to kill her. Which in turn had left a lot of unanswered questions. How could the man she fell so in love with, change before her very eyes?
When her ex's family turns a cold shoulder on Starla and accuses her of making the whole thing up, things only turn for the worse when Kyle (the ex) turns up dead in Starla's home. With mounting evidence turning up against, it's up to Darcy to put this one to rest.
This was very original. I love the uniqueness of this series and how it's done. I especially loved the little magical town, full of very interesting characters. From familiars that talk to people with special powers living among people who do not have any. Darcy was charming, a loyal friend, trusting and compassionate. I totally fell in love with her character and wished I had her powers - heh wished.
The way the mystery turned out I thought was very unique as well. Blake has crafted a really alluring series. I had the most difficult time putting this one down. I really wanted to know the big secret behind what happened to Kyle and why he treated Starla the way he did. What I got in return was a news so heartbreaking, I could almost feel Starla's shattering pain and the whole unfairness of it. Especially since he is now gone.
By the end of the book I found myself in tears. Not only for Kyle, but for Darcy's best friend as well. I was so glad that the actual ending was pulled together so well, and surprising kind of beautiful. With a touch of romance and some magic, this was a very heartwarming and really enjoyable read. In the end, I found myself wishing I could live in the enchanted village.
I got a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange of an honest review.

Love this series! Heather Blake is the only ligth paranormal author that I read. I've been hooked on her writing since her first Nina Quinn series.

A story that will dazzle you page after page!! Darcy Merriweather is a Wishcrafter--she can make other people's wishes come true! Darcy lives in the Enchanted Village, surrounded by family and her Police Chief boyfriend, Nick Sawyer, and his sweet daughter, Mimi. Darcy's best friend, Starla Sullivan, has endured a lot of past heartache, and is finally dating Vince Paxton. Without warning, Starla sees her ex-husband, Kyle Chadwick, who tried to kill her 2 years before! If that's not worry enough, he's invisible to everyone else. The Chadwick family is obviously hiding information concerning Kyle and his whereabouts. Nick's deceased wife, Melina, had a friend, Glinda, who's a thorn in Darcy's side, and Darcy's concerned about her suspicious behavior. Also, the illness of a dear friend is sad to many of the villagers.

Outstanding. I thought this book was excellently and thoughtfully written; addressing deeper themes without dragging the reader down. A very entertaining read I'd recommend to anyone who prefers their medicine to be sweet, a la Mary Poppins.

Toujours un super moment de lecture avec Heather Blake ! Le mystère était entier jusqu’à la toute fin et on a une belle morale autour de : « Tout n’est pas noir ou blanc mais souvent avec des nuances de gris. »
Notre héroïne prends de l’ampleur dans cet opus et ses relations avec les habitants se solidifient. C’était émouvant, intriguant avec beaucoup de magie pour mon plus grand plaisir!

I know I have a plethora of books on Mt Git'r'Read, but sometimes a book and/or an author calls out to me from my Wanton Wantin' Book List (WWBL) or just seeing it on a shelf at the bookstore. And. I. Have. To. Have. It.
Just so with THE GOODBYE WITCH. It's been too long since visiting with Darcy and her friends and family, magical and otherwise, in Enchanted Village. Leaped off the shelf and into my hand and to the checkout and immediately became my purse book. And I read it in a short amount of time.
Darcy is the kind of person I'd like to get to know. She's sweet and tough-ish. She is fiercely protective of her family and friends. And she has the ability to grant wishes, if the wish is phrased correctly and it isn't for herself. I love that this ability isn't utilized extravagantly so as to be disruptive. Darcy uses her commonsense and no one goes around pining and wishing or it would get vexing to the reader. Or at least to me.
There are magical abilities all around since it is Enchanted Village and pretty much everyone is a Crafter of some kind. But it isn't too precious, it's just right.
The mystery is well done and the magic flavors the solving, but Darcy uses her brain as well as abilities to get to the bottom of investigation. The handling of her investigating without it being labeled as 'meddling' is handled quite neatly. Though it took four books to allow this to happen. Thankfully, Darcy is undaunted in investigation as well as learning her Craft.
Definite recommend.

I breezed through this book, I just fly through cozies! I loved the way things are developing in the village! I was again bored with the gratuitous recapping. Every book draws you more into the Enchanted Village and entrenches the denizens more into your heart.
This book gives more backstory for Starla and her love life. We have the mystery with her Ex and complications with her new relationship. There are so many things at play here. It wasn't was intriguing as the last book but it was an entertaining read.
This book as very much about relationships, Nick and Darcy, Glinda and Nick/Mimi, Starla and Kyle, Starla and Vincent, Ve and her latest flavor. Lots of side plots going on beside the main murder plot. A few things were obvious, however others managed to surprise.
The audiobook narrated by Coleen Marlo is well done. I think my ears are now used to her after devouring three books straight. I am settled into her vocal quirks, they seem less now, maybe she has been working on them. I do enjoy her pace and energy in the story. She moves swiftly with the story and makes for a more engaging read.
This book moves things along in the Enchanted Village. I am super curious who the Elder really is, will we ever know? I will have to jump right into the latest book in the series!!

I did not like this book at all. The behavior shown by the family and the acceptance of spousal abuse disgusted me. I understand that Kyle was sick, but instead of letting people know they blamed the victim and acted like it was her fault. The entire village rallied around a man who tried to murder his wife, not knowing that he had been sick. I get that he was not in his right mind but it is gross. I cannot believe someone would put up with being spied through their webcam for “love.” I think Starla has some serious psychological issues and incredibly low self-esteem. I’m grossed out by that Glinda woman getting away with breaking and entering, reporting a false crime, harassment, planting false evidence, defamation of character, abuse of power, police brutality, accessory after the fact, enabling a break out, misuse of police property, and so many more crimes because she’s sad and doesn’t have a family. I don’t know if I’ll read the next book because I am just grossed out by basically everything in this book except for a few things. Forgive and forget? Are you f-ing kidding me? A woman almost died by the hands of her husband, and you are supposed to see how victimized that woman was by an entire town a “shade of grey”? No. No! NO!

I've said before that I didn't think Ms. Blake/Webber knows how to write a bad book. With this one, I'm certain of it. I have enjoyed all of the books in this series but this one was just excellent. The theme of goodbye runs through the whole story and there were MANY moments that truly tugged at the hearstrings. Starla is sure she's being stalked by her ex-husband who escaped from jail 2 years prior after being arrested for attempted murder against Starla. Darcy believes her, but the big problem is no one can see him but Starla. When he turns up dead, and no longer invisible, Starla is suspect #1. There is MUCH more to this story than meets the eye and we find that sometimes things aren't always what they seem. Another friend's health is failing and add to that the fact that Darcy's birthday is approaching, a day which is usually sad for her, and you have the makings of a wonderful story. Some things are resolved here and it turns out that some very sad things can sometimes have a silver lining. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This book felt very melancholy to me. Part of me is surprised that I feel like that after how things started with Starla. I felt for Starla and how she was terrorized. I really wanted Kyle to be found and punished, but in the end I think Kyle was punished enough.
Through out the series I have disliked Glinda, so very much. So I'm glad that everyone had their eyes opened to the kind of person she is.
I loved the trick that Ve pulled on Darcy. It was the one thing that ensured that Darcy would avoid things.
I liked the conversation that The Elder had with a familiar at the end of the book. I feel like the familiar, that it is time to move on, so I'm glad that there is a chance. I'm also very happy with the new familiar that was introduced, for so many reasons.

In this installment of the witchcraft series, we learn more about Darcy's friend, Starla. When Starla's abusive ex is back in town and everyone begins to wonder about his reappearance. They don't wonder for long when Kyle is found dead a few days later in Starla's home. They know she had nothing to do with his death so Darcy and her friends start looking into what happened to Kyle.
This was a really great book in the series. I love Darcy's relationship with not only her boyfriend, Nick, but his daughter, Mimi as well. The characters in this series are always great and each one of the side characters serve their own purpose for moving the story along but are still entertaining and likeable. I will definitely continue with this series.

Darcy's friend Starla was hoping to never see her ex-husband, Kyle again after he tried to kill her. He has been on the run for the last two years after escaping from jail. Starla comes to Darcy in a panic claiming that Kyle is back and is following her. She is terrified and Darcy vows to do everything she can to find him and bring him to justice. The problem is he seems to be invisible. Starla is the only one who can see him, that is until he turns up dead and Starla becomes the primary suspect.

This story is about Darcy Merriweather and her desire to help her friends in need. Starla Sullivan is upset because she has seen her ex-husband but no one else can see him which leads to problems when his dead body is found in Starla's house. Lots of magic in this book as spells are used for good and bad. The book was a quick easy read.

I just totally love this series. Although there’s a mystery and usually some kind of death to investigate, I find these to be the perfect “lighthearted” mystery novel after reading a few serious books. I’m enjoying getting to know the characters and the town. I feel like the relationships are developing at a good pace. Most importantly, the Familiars are awesome!

This is the third book I’ve read in this series. I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the other two but it was still a fun read!! The characters are developing nicely and I look forward to reading more!!!

This series continued to be a lovely surprise. I wasn’t so happy with the resolution of the mystery. I really liked the way this mystery was set up so while the way it was wrapped up makes sense I was disappointed. As always I am looking forward to the next installment

2020 bk 32. It is still an enjoyable cozy mystery. There were a few things that felt out of place or the feeling of opportunities missed, but overall, I'd read it again in a year or two.

There are a lot of things I really like about this series. First off, they are light and fun. When I pick up a Heather Blake book, I know exactly what I am going to get and that I will most likely not be able to put the book down until I finish it. I know that it will have an intriguing mystery for me to solve and that a few twists and turns will be thrown in with the real clues so that the story isn't too predictable. I know that I will smile, possibly get a bit emotional, and laugh often. All of my favorite quirky characters will be there to greet me and I will get just the right amount of romance. And finally, the fact that there is magic in the story is like the glittery icing on the cake.
The Goodbye Witch was completely satisfying. The setting of the Enchanted Village never gets tiring, especially if you are someone like myself, who loves the idea of witches and magic. Darcy, our main character, is kindhearted and, because she didn't have much of a family life growing up, considers all those she cares about part of her family and will do anything to help them. I love that Darcy and Nick's relationship, although not perfect, is solid. They aren't being consistently torn apart and their romance really isn't even the focus during most of the book. I instead got to immerse myself fully and sleuth along with Darcy as she got her hands dirty trying to figure out how to clear Starla's name and figure out what really happened to Kyle. I often found myself jotting down hunches or little notes that I felt might be clues to the story. I find this to be part of the fun of reading a cozy mystery.
If you have been reading this series, I'll just say that in my opinion, this is the best book yet and there are some big reveals! No spoilers here though. You have to grab it for yourself. Happy reading!

Meh. This story was stagnant for the series. It mostly just prolonged every situation. I wasn't a fan and the mystery was bland. Overall it was okay.
Recommend to others: This is definitely the lull of the series.

I won an ARC from Heather in a Facebook contest and was over the moon as I love all her books but...I have to say this...I think Heather Blake is a WordCrafter! I honestly don't know how she does it -- she gets better with each outing and this book is no exception.
