Both folly and food are flying in Motherhood Is Not for Wimps, the collection of the immensely popular strip Baby Blues. The parents of young Zoe and Hamish uncover chicken nuggets in the dryer, bribe their children with Fudgsicles, referee a debate on which child got the bigger cookie, and learn that there is quite likely maple syrup in the VCR. And fun with food is just the start of the countless laughs and never-ending mayhem in this collection.
The charm and universal appeal of Baby Blues lies in its ability to humorously capture the everyday joys and trials of parenting young children. The strip helps moms and dads the world over laugh their way through the daily challenges of keeping up with their kids. Yet, you don't have to be a parent of small children to appreciate the humorous situations fictional parents Darryl and Wanda face in Motherhood Is Not for Wimps.

Having read Baby Blues for many years, I decided to buy and read every book in the collection, and been having a great time! This is one of the earlier volumes, with strips from back around 2000, but they are not dated at all. Wren has not been born yet, and Zoe and Hammie are still very small. Many of the strips relate to Wanda's humorous experiences as a young mother and as a parent myself they are so relatable! I loved the strip when they carefully raise a butterfly from a caterpillar, only to have a bird swoop down and eat the butterfly the moment they set it free! Such things always seem to happen when you have kids! Or when the kid ask Daryl if they can go the mailbox with him and they think it means a car ride! There's also a cute series where Zoe tries to resolve Hammie's hiccups! Any parent will relate to these funny strips and they are a joy to read!
I read it while pregnant and it makes much sense! You take so much more out of it, it is hilarious!! I just hope my life won't turn like these comic strips in the near future 😂
A good collection of pre-Wren Baby Blues, the book contains plenty of smiles & laughter. While most of the strips seem to be stand-alones, there are a few stories, including Hammie & Zoe raising a butterfly & the family dealing with pinkeye. The strips definitely show /why/ "Motherhood is not for wimps."
