Perennial is all around you.

On the morning of the first day of senior year, Alix Keener awakens from a vivid, terrifying dream where a ghostly boy warns her: Perennial is all around you. Shaking off the dream – and the cryptic message – is more than Alix needs as she starts a new life in Beaconsfield, the posh Detroit suburb she and her dad recently moved to after her mom’s death.

Alix ignores the cryptic dream message until one of her new classmates, the alluring Lewis Wilde, mentions it – he knows something about Perennial, and hints that it has to do with a boy who died in Alix’s bedroom. Suddenly wracked by waking visions, Alix finds herself teamed up with Lewis to uncover the truth.

Alix’s developing psychic abilities become more powerful but reality becomes increasingly unclear: Alix wants to trust Lewis, but a shadowy person named Vagabond hints that Alix’s trust may be misplaced. As things become more dangerous and complex, Alix must choose whether to use her burgeoning psychic abilities or possibly lose everything that matters to her.

The whole idea that the main character could suddenly be in love with a boy she's briefly interacted with two times just seemed unreal and was only my first problem.

I can honestly say that I was very pleasantly surprised by this book. I don't think the blurb does this book justice and the cover threw me off a bit. I only say this because I started it not really expecting it to be as enthralling as it was. Perennial is very well written and I think Ryan Potter has created a great book. I went from thinking I might not finish it at the start to wanting to read the next book as soon as I finished the last page.

I liked the main protagonist - Alix and thought she was fairly relatable. She was a strong character with a kick-ass attitude which I always love. Lewis is a shady but interesting character that suited the book perfectly. Add William into the mix and you have a love triangle that constantly pulls the reader's heart in two different directions. The reader really feels for Alix because both of her love interests have some great positives and some very negative ones which makes choosing one very difficult.

This book has some amazing twists and turns that really surprise you. The ending is both fantastic and shocking.

There are some negative though hence why I've given it 4 stars. I found that the very ending scenes were quite rushed and they needed more time spent explaining and justifying everything. The book went along at a good steady pace but when you get to the climatic ending it seems to be lacking, as though the author ran out of time and needed to wrap it up quickly.

Overall - This book is a great read and once you've started it you feel compelled to finish. If you're looking for a book that gives you a great exciting ending with lots of surprises thenthis is the book. Good job Ryan Potter

I am surprised this book has such high ratings. It was easily the worst story I've ever read. Super wish fulfillment, cliche, unrealistic and flat characters, twu wuv in a matter of... days... the main character also accepts some things really easily to the point where it was just mind boggling (oh, I'm a powerful psychic and obviously this guy in my dream is real... YEAH NBD), the writing read like a mediocre fanfiction, and very little world building for what hints at a pretty strong fantasy setting. The author tried to do way too much and failed. Thankfully I read this for free and didn't have to pay for this book.

It's just not for me. I struggled with boredom the entire time I attempted to read this.

Alix Keener has ESP and dreams about a mysterious dead boy who wants her help finding his killer. She meets and instantly falls for Lewis Wilde, a boy with his own secrets who happens to be a friend of the boy who died in her room. I chose this book based on the very interesting blurb. Sadly, I did not finish this. I couldn't take it anymore. I could not endure the ridiculous dialogue and annoying characters any longer.

I'm not the target audience so I don't feel I got as much out of this book as its intended demographic will but it was a good solid read.
