Determined to get her pretty face in front of the cameras, Khloe Everest fakes an abduction only to make a grand entrance in the midst of a press conference held by Spencer's Police Chief David O'Callaghan.

Khloe Everest believes that she can create her own fame through various well-timed actions. So she takes a drastic step and fakes her own abduction. The aftermath was unexpected...and not in a good way.

Three years later, disowned by her mother, Khloe returns to Deep Creek Lake, Maryland, after her mother's sudden death. Holed up in her mother's house, ready to make another play at notoriety with a stunning announcement, another unexpected event happens...her body is discovered in the house, stabbed to death and dismembered.

Mac Faraday, our resident rich man and detective, is on the case with his brother, David O'Callaghan, who is also the Chief of Police. But the victim's notoriety, as well as the agendas of several politicians and so-called friends, cripple the investigation and make the path to solving the case very challenging. Plus...a few previous victims seem to be connected to this one, leading them to realize that they are in pursuit of a serial killer(s).

Will Mac and David find their killer(s), or will they soon discover that this case has disturbing and complex elements that will take them down many twisted pathways? Will justice be served, or will the bad guys win out once again?

I enjoyed how other familiar characters cropped up here and there, like Archie, Mac's fiancee, and Chelsea, a former girlfriend of David's, who is slowly moving closer to forgiving him for past misdeeds. And from another Lauren Carr series (Lovers in Crime), Cameron Gates and Joshua Thornton show up to assist with the case, as some of the previous victims lived in their jurisdictions. They brought something delightful to the canvas, as they are newlyweds, trying to carve out alone time, even in the midst of all the mystery.

There could not be a story set in Deep Creek Lake without Gnarly, Archie's German Shepherd...and now that Chelsea is a resident, her dog Molly adds some fun to the mix. But when Cameron appears with her Maine Coon cat Irving...well, you can imagine the antics. I liked being able to laugh and smile in these light moments amidst all the frightening events.

"The Lady Who Cried Murder: A Mac Faraday Mystery" was another heart-stopping romp, and while the mystery and path to its solution were wonderful, I always love the characters as much as the suspense. Five stars.

I LOVE EACH AND EVERY VISIT I MAKE TO SPENCER MOUNTAIN, THE CHARACTERS ARE LIKE OLD FRIENDS. THIS HAD SOME MAJOR PLOT TWIST IN THIS STORYLINE AND SOME REAL MENTAL CASES IN IT, THEY WERE OFF THE HOOK CRAZY. I LOVED THE FAST PACE ACTION, WHEN I THOUGHT I HAD IT FIGURED OUT, STORY CHANGED DIRECTIONS ON ME. I DID KNOW SOME THINGS BUT THE WHY, SORT OF THREW ME. MAC & HIS CREW (ANIMAL & HUMANS) WERE WONDERFUL AS USUAL, THEY ARE ALL SO FUNNY AT TIMES. THIS STARTED OUT GRABBING YA' I WAS LIKE WHAAT? THIS STORY SURE PROVES THE NUTS DON'T FALL FAR FROM THE TREE.;D I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT BOOK, THE TEASERS AT THE END WAS BRILLANT, I CAN'T WAIT TO READ! SMOOTH MOVE! ;0

Note: Even though this is Book 6 in the series, it works just fine as a stand alone.

Three years ago in Spencer, Maryland, young Khloe Everest was reported missing by her mom after she received a disturbing phone call. However, it turned out to be a publicity stunt and all of the the Spencer police felt a fool when Khloe strolled up during a press conference on the ongoing search for the young lady. Now, she’s planning another publicity stunt in order to relaunch her grab for fame and fortune. This time, things don’t go as she likes and she ends up dead. So many suspects, so little time.

David O’Callaghan, the Spencer Police Chief, isn’t too excited to be called in to check out Khloe’s current residence. The wannabe diva’s social media went dark 3 days ago but David still remembers the sting of her first publicity stunt. Grudgingly, he offers to check it out provided all cameras stay outside. What he finds is quite grisly and the murder investigation is launched.

This book was pretty good though not my favorite in the series. The investigation into Khloe’s murder along with David’s courtship of an old flame, Chelsea, are the two things that stood out to me. There’s also a politician (along with his son) that has some old beef with Mac Faraday (retired DC police detective). That mostly faded into the background for me.

Here is my one criticism for this book. There are some characters that are gay or cross dress and all the characters who do so are on the bad guy list. I can’t tell if the main characters believe that homosexuality or cross dressing are signs of deeper problems and nefarious behavior or not. I’m on the fence on this because I haven’t come across other gay characters before in this series (to my memory). At any rate, I would have preferred that the characters make it clear that there are bad guys that just happen to be gay and not that homosexuality is a trait of questionable behavior.

Back to Khloe. She did have a big bombshell of a secret that she was teasing her followers with, promising to announce it to the world on a specific date. Initially, David isn’t too sure she had any real secret but he has to investigate nonetheless. It was a big secret indeed! I was surprised by this twist and it added a note of seriousness to story. Someone is a real jerk and needs to be taken down!

Then there’s Chelsea. She’s got epilepsy so she has a service dog, Molly, who can sense her episodes coming on and warn her early. Chelsea and David had a relationship in high school and David messed up big time. Back then, he cheated on her and he has regretted that ever since. Now he has a second shot with her and he’s doing his best to prove his sincerity. However, Chelsea is afraid of putting her heart out there again and being hurt. It’s a touch/don’t touch relationship between the two throughout the book. For me, it didn’t have nearly as much appeal as Randi from Book 4. Poor David, I’m not sure he will ever meet the right woman.

Anyway, David and Mac pull strings and dig in the past, calling in Cameron (who we know from the Lovers in Crime series) with her case files that relate to this one. She brought her cat Irving who is a big coon cat that resembles a skunk in coloring. Irving makes me laugh. No one likes being screamed at all the time. Meanwhile, Gnarly dog and Molly make a very cute couple.

All told, it was good. I enjoyed the central mystery around Khloe the most. It was good to have the pets around for comedic relief.

I received a free copy of this book via iRead Book Tours.

The Narration: Mike Algers did a very good job with this book. His female voices were believable and his characters were all distinct. He was great at sounding like a real jerk when giving voice to the foul-mouthed bad guys.

Mac Faraday is a retired homicide detective. He is a millionaire since he inherited from his birth mother. He lives in a mansion in an area filled with other millionaires. Living with him is Archie, the beautiful woman who is the love of his life. And they both share the mansion with Gnarly, a German Shepherd. Gnarly is a former military dog who is too smart for his own good.

The other character who is a big part of the story is David. He is the police chief and he happens to be Mac's half brother. They are the best of friends and have developed an almost eerie ability to understand one another. David trusts Mac enough to make him an unpaid part of the police department.

In this book, a young woman who had been absolutely mad to become a "celebrity" is found murdered in a horrible manner. She had tried a fake kidnapping, a bad reality show and just about anything else that came to mind.

Finding her murderer begins a long journey into perversion and secrets buried for many years. The clues appear to lead in the direction of a serial killer. This is someone who has evidently stayed undetected for many years.

Ms Carr is a very talented writer. This plot like the other Mac Faraday books is very well developed. This is the most recent in the series, but can certainly be a stand alone read. The characters are well rounded human beings who seem to have normal human faults and foibles.

I like the book for the mystery, but I also like the humor. When you read this you will be able to see a few clues as you go along, but the motives behind the clues are what make things so interesting.

I recommend this book to mystery lovers. Be prepared for some yucky situations, but they are truly an important part of the story.

FTC FULL DISCLOSURE: I was given a copy of the book by the author who has requested a fair and impartial review.

This story is a little bit different from the other Mac Faraday novels, or so I felt, in that we learn who the killer is fairly early on in the novel. Thus, we are swept up into a cat and mouse game in which our heroes and heroines try to stop the killer before he/she attacks again. But while the reason behind the murders seems clear enough, this is indeed where Carr springs her twist on her readers, flooring us as the truth, the whole truth, becomes known and it turns out not everything was exactly as it seemed.

Carr is a master story-teller, and her mysteries never cease to amaze and captivate me as I read. I have really come to love the Mac Farady series, and all the many characters, from Gnarly to Archie, and all those in-between; these are wonderful suspense novels full of witty banter, hilarious situations and, of course, enough mystery to enchant an audience from start to finish.

I always love with when authors cross their series, and in this novel, we have this wonderful cross over as Joshua Thornton and Cameron Gates grace us with their presence, and I adore them! They add a wonderful element to the already wonderful Mac Faraday series, and if you haven’t read any of the Lovers in Crime series, then I highly suggest you do to better get to know there awesome characters.

What really stunned me about The Lady Who Cried Murder is that is stems from Carr’s own experience with a bully, and her intense look at how people interact with one another provides an extremely eye opening and intriguing read. Though it was a little different from what I’m used to with Carr’s writing, this was another great read, and I highly recommend it.

My sixth installment in the Mac Faraday Mysteries, The Lady Who Cried Murder contains a unique dedication:

To the arrogant, envious, rude, self-centered, demented, and twisted souls amongst us. For without you, murder mystery writers would be without inspiration.

The Lady Who Cried Murder was inspired by my personal encounter with a neighborhood bully. Believe it or not, childhood bullies do grow up. Just like any bully, ours never attacks when my husband is around. He only makes his verbal assaults when I’m alone and for no reason.

This minor, yet annoying, incident inspired me to write a thrilling murder mystery. As a writer, I analyze people, real people, for character development. Not knowing anything about this grown man (including his name) who has a job, a family, and home, I had to imagine virtually everything about him to come up with a motive for his arrogant behavior toward me.

Then, I came to realize that our society is overrun with bullies—not just those who stop their cars and scream at women who happen to be walking their dogs. I was surprised to realize that some areas of our society embrace arrogance. Also, some bullies, due to their power or social positions, are protected by those around them, which allows them to prey on the rest of us.

Thus, The Lady Who Cried Murder came to be written.

Here's hoping you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Mac Faraday Murder Mystery Series - I really like the way Lauren Carr writes. It is a fast read and she really keeps your interest.

Determined to get her pretty face in front of the cameras, Khloe Everest fakes an abduction only to make a grand entrance in the midst of a press conference held by Spencer's Police Chief David O'Callaghan. She finds out that her mother had been raped and the guy is now a senator and Khloe's father. His son is crazy and hates all women so he blames them for everything - kills them and cuts out their uteruses.
Three years later, after failing to catapult her notoriety into a long-lasting celebrity, Khloe Everest returns to Spencer upon her mother's sudden death and seemingly finds another weapon to propel herself into the spotlight. Unfortunately, someone kills her before she can make this entrance.

In this sixth Mac Faraday Mystery, Mac and his friends come up against reality stars, politicians, has-beens, and wannabes. The view into “reality” TV is entertaining, and I enjoyed following the plot from the point of view of different series regulars.

I get a little annoyed at Mac having to constantly refer to Archie as his “ladylove,” it’s sort of … smarmy. That aside, I like the relationship between Mac and Archie, and it’s good to see David finally having a romance. You could read these out of order, although each book builds on the last, and part of the enjoyment for me is seeing the characters' relationships grow.

I truly enjoy this series. It never fails. Great characters and well developed plots. And this time around Gnarly and Molly have a visit from Irving, and let's just say, if there ever were pace in Deep Creek, when those three are around, peace is the last thing from anyone's minds ;)

This Mac Faraday mystery is just as exciting and suspenseful as you have come to expect from Lauren Carr! She is an amazing author that draws you into the story, makes you fall in love with the characters (they feel like family!) and keeps you guessing right to the very end.

In this novel, we start off with a wanna be celebrity faking her abduction in order to make the news. Several years later, she still hasn't found her fame and returns home to Spencer when her Mother dies. This is when she uncovers a secret that would propel her into the spotlight permanently but she pays for this secret with her life.

After the murder is discovered, Mac and his gang uncover layers of murders, politicians, lies and cover ups. Mac uncovers a tie to an old foe that he couldn't arrest and this motivates him to solve this new mystery. He needs the help of his entire gang (including his furry members!) in order to solve these crimes that are twisted and hidden in cover ups.

This novel is amazing - you are left guessing right to the very end. It was an ending that I did not see coming at all! The plot is fast moving, unexpected and well written. The characters fully come alive in this novel - they are relatable, funny and ready for anything.

Lauren has another winner in The Lady Who Cried Murder - a definite must read in the Mac Faraday series.

The Lady Who Cried Murder would have to be one of my favorite audio books right up there with all of the others that I have read or listened to in the Mac Faraday Mystery Series. I have yet to find a badly written or uninteresting book that I have read or listened to by Lauren Carr.

The Lady Who Cried Murder has one of those plots that pulled me in right from the first chapter. The beginning had the typical amount of setup, but when the murders happened it began a plot that kept me on the edge of my seat with my earbuds pressed tightly into my ears. I was so enthralled that I actually had The Lady Who Cried Murder playing on my Amazon Echo throughout the day so that I could go do things around my house without leaving the book!

It would be very hard to pick out one scene in The Lady Who Cried Murder as my favorite, but if I had to it would be the scene at the end where all the puzzle pieces come together for both the characters and the readers/listener.

I personally believe that any of the books in the Mac Faraday Mystery Series would make for a great movie. If I had to pick a tagline it would something like Don't Fear Ladies Gnarly is Here.

Lots of action and complex plots in this crime murder mystery. I found it to be just a little to cute to fit my personal tastes, all of the serpentine theories linking a laundry list of suspects to homicides and political corruption. Perhaps a simpler scenario with less glitzy overtones and fewer romantic complications might have been more satisfying. These days the crime mystery novelists keep trying to one-up each other for reviews and book sales, not always cognizant that realism is the casualty. Nevertheless the book was not a bad read, I just had higher expectations. 3 stars.

Lauren Carr Strikes Again

With each new title of the Mac Faraday series comes a new adventure and greater character development. The characters in the series have become like old friends. I feel as though I can reach out and pet the lovable, yet mischievous German Shepherd, Gnarly. It is my desire that one Fay soon, Hollywood will discover these treasures created by the talented and witty Ms. Carr so they can set them to film. Then again, the book is always better! Thank you for another wonderful read, Lauren Carr!

Mystery/romance. The cast includes all our favorite Carr characters, human, canine and feline. The villain of the piece - well, one of them anyway - appears set to avoid his just dues because of power and wealth and willingness to engage in murder to escape justice. It takes the efforts of all the good guys (and gals) to resolve the matter, but right prevails in the end. Very entertaining and satisfying read.

Another Great Read for Carr!

I love Lauren's writing style and her books. They are interesting to read. The characters are great. I can remember them from book to book. Mac is my favorite character. Of course he's the main character. This story is about political scandals that end in murders. For years the murders kept happening to women and no one knew exactly why. You will enjoy reading this story and find yourself praying for real justice for the victims.

I really like this series - and the 'partners in crime' series - having them both in one book...?

:)

Gnarly and his misdeeds, then wounded hero - and Irving coming from culprit to the one who saves the day.

A serial killer is finally caught... hiding in plain sight, the 'humongous' boobs gave the perv away...

Hilarious, and adicting. Just pick it up and read it!

Mac Faraday mysteries are worth the read

The only complaint I have with this book is that it ran a bit long.

Some new characters, Cameron and Joshua, are introduced. They are the author's newest "couple" creation. Not sure what the title of their mysteries are, but read a short story including them and liked it.

Is it possible for a book to be loud? This one seemed to be loud, maybe because there was so much going on and so many people involved. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy this series and Lauren Carr's writing; I rated this one 4.4 stars.

Excellent murder mystery

As usual I truly enjoyed this book and as usual I was able to guess who the killer was about halfway through the book making me more excited to reach the final chapter to see if I was right. I love Carr's book and always look forward to the next one.

One of the best mystery series I'VE ever read. Good plotting, humor, and a side helping of romance. Don't want to finish series to quickly and run out. Going to start her other series also, about Josh and Cameron. Looking forward to more.

The Lady Who Cried Murder

Khloe Everest wants nothing more then to become famous. To get there she faked her own kidnaping only to be murdered three years later. Her murder is some how connected to another murder in Mac Faraday pass.
