Excellent aide memoir to anyone wanting to take their driving to the next level. This was recommended to me by the Institute of Advanced Motorists to assist me with my Advanced Driving Test - really helpful.
An very helpful guide to asvanced driving that helped me prepare for my Institute of Advanced Motorists driving test. I passed first time and again three years later so I highly recommend this book. Keep it as a reference book to refer to occasionally and keep your skills up to advanced level.
Probably one of the best books on driving there is available to UK drivers.
Like almost every driver on the road I, and probably you too, routinely overestimate my/our skills behind the wheel because we all drive largely based on our own experiences behind the wheel and not necessarily in a way that is both efficient and safe. This book is a way of inoculating yourself against almost all those bad driving habits you know you have, and the most dangerous habits of all: the ones you don't know you have. Don't let the cover fool you, it's not going to teach you how to engage in high speed pursuits (far from it), it's going to teach you how to improve your perception of your environment, how to read the road and show you how to act as situations develop, rather than react to an event. Although it's written in plain and unambiguous English, it's not a light read and like any textbook it can't be digested in one pass (or two, or three) but it is structured to be both an advanced instruction manual and a handbook from which one can continue to improve one's driving skills. Personally I've found it an impressive handbook. It's regularly updated to keep up with developments in vehicle technology, UK road law and best practice for drivers, whether behind the wheel of a small car, a sports car or an emergency vehicle. It's also made it easier for me to read the road ahead, identifying potential hazards, prioritise their importance and drive so that the potential for damage to myself, others and our respective property is kept to a minimum while still getting from A to B as smoothly and effectively as possible.
