As winter approaches, the squirrel, beaver, big bear, and bat prepare to settle in for the cold days ahead in their own unique way, in a picture book with rhythmic text and full-color illustrations.
Beautiful, bright, collaged pictures accompanied by very large type are inviting to the reader. There is a final page about the four animals featured in the book: tree squirrel, bat, beaver and bear. This would be great for fall but might be interesting, too, to read in the summer and talk about the opposite time of the year.
The art in this is just stunning! With simple poetic text, it shows animals getting ready for winter. At the back of the book is a page of information about each of these animals.
4.5 stars A recent ad advertising my city said average summer Temperatures are 79.5' F. The last few weeks or so that has been a lie. We have been kissing 100 'F. I am so sick of the hot. I want my average temperatures. So when I red this book about fall and winter, my mind was swept away to cooler temperatures and fall leaves. I love the illustrations and the stories. As usual I like the author notes that explain things!
Night, nocturnal, animals, bear, autumn, winter, season, bat, squirrel, beaver, snow, hibernate - all these are keywords that tie into this book.
Full page colorful illustrations would work for a toddler storytime. Two word descriptors on most pages also contribute to a good storytime book for toddlers.
I enjoyed the illustrations, and how they showed texture almost like paper was cut out to form the animals. The book showed what had happened to certain animals when it was time for winter, and how they hibernated. It would be a good book to teach students with and create a lesson plan from if you were an educator.
For dance and movement story boxes; energy quality, body awareness, speed and tempo, spatial awareness, gross motor skills, sequencing and recall; addressing kinesthetic, visual and musical learning styles.
My son liked the pictures and the story that I told to the pictures. I read the words printed only the first time through, then subsequently used the pictures to talk about the changing seasons and hibernation.
With beautiful illustrations and very simple text (a few word sentence per page) we see Bear, Beaver, Bat, and Squirrel preparing for winter under a full Fall moon.
