Fixing Freddie

Rate this book
Samantha hasn’t seen Freddie since they were in school and that was...what?...ten years ago? Back then he was painfully shy and was never seen without a computer game in his hand. So when he shows up in her favourite coffee shop she doesn’t recognize him at first. He’s still into computer games, and to make matters worse, his hair is long and his sense of style sucks. He’s nothing like her suave, sexy boyfriend. They discover they’ve both been invited to the same wedding and when he bemoans his lack of style, she surprises herself by offering to help him with a make-over.
But Freddie isn’t the only one in need of help. While Samantha helps Freddie, he helps her discover an inner strength she didn’t know she had. Join Samantha and Freddie as they navigate the minefield of their growing attraction on the way to finding out who they really are.
This mini novel runs just under 20,000 words – a delightful afternoon read. Caution, some coarse language

I guess I were to describe FIXING FREDDIE in a phrase, I'd call it a grown up fairy tale. Sure, there's no princess, but there is an almost perfect man, a home almost as big as a palace, and a totally swoon-worthy happily-ever-after -- just without magic pumpkins or singing animals...

Freddie has loved Samantha, ever since school -- where she was the beautiful, popular girl and he was .. well, the dork. Of course, lots of dorks grow up to be multi-millionaire business owners, and Freddie was no exception. Expanding his video game dweebiness into a huge corporate empire, Freddie now has it all -- the fancy cars, the beautiful homes, the money in the bank, but he's still a dork.

Samantha, in the meantime, is stuck in a terrible relationship. She knows her boyfriend is probably cheating, and she's pretty sure she's ready to end things. Except, there's this wedding coming up, and she can't go alone. Then, one day she runs into Freddie and he admits that he'd like Samantha to help make him more socially appealing. It's a big project, but someone can do it, right?

Samantha has no idea Freddie is rich. But as she gives him a new hairstyle and new clothes, she starts to see an appeal that she never noticed before. While fixing Freddie, might she realize that what she always wanted was already there all along?

For the most part, this was a cute, charming, fun read. I only had two parts that made me cringe. First, when Samantha was asked why she stayed in such a sucky relationship, she bawled that it's because her daddy left her. And, she seemed to be serious. Gag. Second, what's with the fascination with the size of Freddie's ... ahem ... manhood? At least the author tied it in to the happy ending, I guess!

Somewhat boring novella about a nerdy guy, the girl he’s loved since high school, and her douchy boyfriend.

Fixing Freddie by Mona Ingram
While having coffee with her best friend Lauren, Samantha sees an old classmate. She remembered him as being kind to her and sticking up for her once, while she probably made fun of him. Now as she really looked at Freddie Howard, she saw what a handsome guy he was. During the next few mornings Freddie asks for her help in making him over for an upcoming wedding. The more time Samantha spends with Freddie, the more she realized she needs to get out of her relationship with Cody. He's not good to her and she thinks he may be unfaithful as well.

Freddie has long cared for Samantha and now that he has saw her again, there is no way he will stop from trying to win her heart. Having her help him get new clothes is just a way to spend time with her. But he has to wait until she is free from the other guy.

As Samantha waits for Cody to get back into town, she thinks that it may be too late a relationship with Freddie and her. With his new make-over she sees all the woman giving him double takes. Has she waited to long getting rid of the wrong guy that she lost the right one?

Definitely a read that brings out the emotions of the characters. Not a long book but definitely packed full of an entire story that was definitely worth reading.
**Sensual innuendos.

I just can't...I'm not buying his "initial condition" as a hopeless, socially inept, dowdy nerd. Ingram keeps slipping her pen and writing him as his "transformed" self too early in my opinion. Her writing is good, engaging. I'm just having trouble suspending my disbelief as the story moves and Freddie becomes hot and swoon worthy -when really he's already a tasty, heart-throbbing gentleman.

The supporting characters were great. The pushy friend, Laura, and the douchy boyfriend, Cody. Sam was a very believable heroine and I sympathized with her predicament. Great characterizations; except for Freddie who didn't need fixing.

A fun, fast romance that will charm you. Samantha is on the verge of a breakup with her current guy, but a wedding between school friends has her holding off the inevitable for just a little longer. When she runs into an old schoolmate shortly before the wedding, there's an immediate spark. But she tells herself it's due to her own doomed love life that she sees Freddie as romance material. After all, he's a computer geek. Still, she agrees to help him look less nerd-like before the wedding and soon discovers the prince beneath the surface. A delightful twist on Pygmalion,

If you want to forget about the world and dream a bit, this story is just right. I loved the fact that Freddy wasn't changed into the typical stereotype of a successful business man.

My favorite sentence is spoken by the heroine's best friend:
“Oh, all right.” She lay back and closed her eyes. “Bring me a glass of juice before you go, will you? And I want a complete report tomorrow after work.” She opened one eye. “Complete.”

This was a really cute short story. Writing style was easy to read, and the characters were extremely likeable. Freddie was my personal favorite - what a sweet guy. Plot flowed well, and though it contains sexual references, they were relatively clean. Overall, an enjoyable read.

One morning, when Samantha and Lauren are in their usual coffee shop, they spot an old classmate, Freddie. He was a quiet computer geek back then and looks like he still is. Lauren pushes Samantha to go over and say hi. He sure isn't a lanky, shy geek anymore. But dresses like it and knows he needs to change that. So when he mentions it to Samantha, she offers to help him with a make-over.

Because her father left when she was a child, Samantha never felt she could hold a man. She put up with a cheating boyfriend just to make sure she had somebody. But after Freddie treats her so well, she knows she deserves better and has to end it with her boyfriend.

I liked that Samantha had always liked Freddie because of how kind he was and remembered that he had stuck up for her in high school. Freddie still treated everyone kindly, no matter whom they were or what profession they had. That combined with his good looks and body, his new look now had women eager to date him. Just what Samantha was afraid of.

This is a sweet romance with wonderful characters that I recommend to any romance readers.

I really hate leaving one star reviews, but I am completely baffled by this book. This was one of the worst stories I have ever read. If I didn't know who the author was, I would swear it was written by a 15 year old. When I read the synapses, I thought the story line sounded great. I was pretty excited to read this. Then I started reading. After the first couple of pages, I could tell this was written very poorly. I tried so hard to slug through this because I hate not finishing books. There were so many times I was so floored by how downright ridiculous the writing was, that I wanted to stop. But I kept thinking, maybe it will get better, maybe she'll redeem herself. I've read many of Mona's books and really enjoyed every one. For the life of me I am having such a hard time believing that this book was written by the same author of all the other books I've read. I wish I could have left a better review. But, I couldn't even bring myself to finish this.

Meet Freddie, an adorable IT guy that looks like Clark Kent. Well, as you know, Clark Kent didn’t have to do much to turn into Superman. But, of course, Samantha offers to do a make-over on him for a wedding of an old high school acquaintance.

Personally, I liked Freddie the way he was, and I totally agreed with his statement on hickeys: “A man foolish enough to try to brand a woman in that manner obviously had no confidence.” (Loc 336)

A fun, sweet, contemporary romance.

Cute Romantic Story

A great short story of finding an old friend and helping him update his look, all the while seeing a different side of him. Very well written, with wonderfully described characters and the surrounding scenery.

Good read.

I appreciated that the sexual intimacy was alluded to, but not graphically described. It was refreshing to have an author choose that style.

This story starts off with two longtime friends from high school, Samantha and Lauren, who meet for coffee every morning. Samantha wants to tell her friend about her concerns about her relationship with her boyfriend Cody but she knows Lauren will loudly speak her mind. She tells her anyway about her thinking he’s stepping out on her and basically Lauren says, “Again?”
So, one element Ms. Mona brings to the table is how we as women (men too I am sure) will settle for less, so we are not alone. In order to be loved, cared for, not abandoned, sexually fulfilled, and the list goes on I am sure.
As they are sitting there Lauren notices Freddie Howard the geek from high school that was always drawing and playing hand held computer games. Samantha told her to be nice because Freddie had stuck up for her when a mean girl had been bullying her back then. She thought he was so nice for doing that. Lauren wanted to say, “Hi!” On her way out but with her foul harsh mouth Sam was worried. So she said that she would say hi for both of them. Lauren made her promise, she did and Lauren left. As Sam got up to leave so did Freddie and he greeted her by name first and held the door open for her. They walked and talked for a few blocks, exchanged the type of work they did, and said their good-byes.
She couldn’t stop thinking about him all day. He couldn’t stop thinking about her either. As he walked into his executive office and his private receptionist brought him some coffee and his messages she knew he was off his mark. He looked different kind of odd as she thought. His thoughts were with Sam, could he get her to really see him? Was there a chance? Was she dating, engaged, or married?
This was the perfect example of how in high school how things were looked at through rose colored glasses or warped ones. How rumors were started and got out of control. I enjoyed it. It was the after effect of high school and how we chose to walk through its after effects. Of how we saw what we never really saw, see what we really missed.
I give this 5 stars. Free from Amazon.

I must say fixing Freddie was a good short book to read, I enjoyed it, Freddie and Samantha where very nice together, Freddie is an IT computer gamer who own his own company in gaming to me he sounds like a really nice guy who really like Samantha. Samantha likes Freddie but she has an arsehole of a boyfriend who she really needs to get rid of. Freddie ask Samantha to help him change what he looks like and she helps him while helping him she starts to really like him maybe fall in love with him, Freddie also starts to fall for Samantha aswell but the only thing that's stopping them from getting together is Samantha's boyfriend but something happens at their friends wedding and she no longer needs that boyfriend. Does Samantha and Freddie get together?

You should read this short book to find out.

Freddie was not the only one "fixed" as Samantha was also! In a very good way too.

Though it is a short story the simplicity should not fool you as there is a sweetly powerful message to women in a relationship that is going nowhere fast, find your own "Freddie" and your life will improve 100%.

I enjoyed meeting both Samantha and Freddie, the sarcastic friend who cautioned Samantha time and again to dump her cheating boyfriend added enough of a foil to Samantha's lowkey personality to liven things up and Freddie was such a breath of fresh air as the leading male character he stole my heart too!

Very cute HEA story

This was a good read. It was about an hour and a half. Does have a happy ever after (HEA) end. No sex, just romance. You do connect with the characters. I would read again and other stories by this author.
Overview. Samantha and Lauren meet every morning for coffee. One day they notice Freddie an old classmate. Lauren encourages Sam to go say hi. Soon Freddie and Sam are talking and doing a make over on him. Both want each other but don't say anything. Sam needs to break up with her current boyfriend who keeps cheating on her, but needs to wait till he comes back from a trip. But Sam and Freddie will soon find a way to connect again.

Loved this delightful short story. The characters of Freddie and Samantha are very realistic. It was refreshing to read about regular looking young people with insecurities getting together. Freddie is a geek who looks like one, and Samantha is in a lousy relationship because she does not believe she deserves more. In comes Freddie who treats her better than she has even been treated, which wakes her up. Theirs is an unlikely friendship which blossoms into something beautiful. I recommend this story.

On the surface Freddie is your typical air head geek only he’s not because underneath the mismatched clothing, glasses, wayward hair and serious outlook on life lies a true gentleman (sigh), a handsome one with a master brain and he’s all for putting that brain to work to finally capture Samantha’s attention. A complete make over. Samantha cannot believe Freddie’s transformation, she’s done her job so well she's beginning to think you should never ever judge a book by its cover.

A candy read romance. Short and sweet.

I liked this book I bought for my Kindle. It was easy and a fast read. I would say you probably could read in 2 1/2 hours none stop.
One Samantha's boyfriend Cody was a jerk and I wanted him out of the story, period.
I liked the guy named Freddie, but Sam could've done something for his hair.
The book was pretty good, not a total waste of time. But would I recommended. Well, that's up to the next reads it.
I give it 3 1/3 out of five.

Quick, sweet read about 2 people running into each other years after high school. He had a crush on her and she thought he was nice, but they didn't really know each other back then. They have both been invited to a wedding of another former classmate and she agrees to help him "improve" his look so that he can be more desirable to women. They start spending time together and you have to read to see what happens next.

I very much enjoyed this short story about old high school acquaintances who met again after many years. It was pretty classic in it's approach. I could see it happening easily. Freddie was very sweet, maybe even a bit too sweet as to seem unreal. It worked though.

Highly recommend this sweet romance to all audiences

Makes for a charming quick read

This was a sweet and fast read. A solid 3.5 star read Im going to round up to 4 since it was offered as a freebie. It was incredibly easy to predict, and a tad on the cheesy side but it was still cute and worth the read.

I enjoyed this one. It was cute and I REALLY liked Freddie. He had the hot, humble, yeti-man going on even though he was a confident business mogul. I love the way her treated her. I truly wanted to know more when the book was over.

I sincerely appreciate the free gift from this author.
