Rate this book
Two months into her new life, Chloe finds herself settling into her role as Lloyd’s housekeeper. On the surface, everything is as good as it seems, but behind all shared meals, gentle banter, and warm domesticity of their home, a tempest of unspoken truths and unnamed emotions is brewing. Can Chloe find the courage to shed the shadows of her past and reveal her identity? Will Lloyd confront the unfamiliar stirrings in his heart?

As storms rage within, unwelcome guests assail the house from outside. Luke Gimul, the impetuous son of a nobleman, lays down an audacious challenge for Chloe’s affection, and Chloe’s sister Lily arrives in the royal capital. When her past comes knocking with a vengeance, will Chloe’s newfound life stand as a fortress or topple like a house of cards?

Perfect

Such a sweet romance. I truly hope there are more to come, I enjoyed it so. They handle hard to discuss vulnerabilities with such tact.

“My arms are yours, whenever you need them.”

Sigh.... That one line made the book worth reading. One extra star just for it.

Aside from that, I felt the first 50% of the book was boring filler. It wasn't until I passed that point that the content from the previous book's epilogue started to have any role... And not was it a minor one at that seems the author's formula is to use the first half of the book to lay out monotonous, almost boring, day to day stuff and then suddenly have a very brief conflict that ends without consequences or lasting affects.

I have no interest in any further volumes in this series. I put the best but in the review title so you don't have to read the book just to get the best line. LOL

Luke is an interesting character that I wish we'd seen more real time how and why he changed his tune to his obvious support and admiration at the end of the book. At least there's some resolution for Chloe and she and Lloyd both finally have their feelings out in the open. It feels like there is still a lot left unsaid or changing that could be elaborated on as this pair continues to grow, but it also looks like the story is considered finished with the epilogue, so unlikely we will get more of these characters.

Very average, or maybe slightly below. The characterization of Luke was excessive, and there’s no way he would have been allowed into a supposedly elite and strictly disciplined squad of knights. And then he does a 180 and worships Lloyd out of nowhere? The author clearly knows nothing of fighting (their wooden swords struck sparks when they clashed) and Lloyd didn’t move an inch, even as he was described as avoiding every blow with a step or hop. Freddy literally says Lloyd’s absolute aversion to death is what makes him so good, not physical condition or skill. That sounds so ridiculous 🙄. Ian being interested in her was also unnecessary and adds zero plot. Don’t get me started on how Chloe can’t talk about her past because pain suddenly strikes “like a slab of lead- I thought she had some sort of curse to not speak, but it turns out that’s the author’s portrayal of basically PTSD.

There shouldn’t be a problem with her living with him just because she’s a noble. What crime is that? And why should being a margrave of a rural place mean you can get out of kidnapping, assault, and attempted murder? I assume her other brother is the margrave, but Lily isn’t, so arresting her isn’t a problem anyway. Even if her brother objects, he’s at least two weeks away from the capital. I’ve noticed that many light novels seem to think nobles are above the law, but there is still a hierarchy and laws to follow…not all nobles have equal power.

I was very disappointed in Ciel leading Lily right to Chloe and letting them go off together without noticing anything wrong. Lily then beat Chloe by stomping on her and kicking her full force in the face. Chloe would not be conscious if she’s being beaten like that🤦🏻‍♀️ kicking people in the head is extremely serious, not to mention being hit so hard it throws her across the room. Come on. Broken bones at the very least. Her family is over the top crazy. Esp when Lily wants to kill Lloyd. They are in a high class hotel. Presumable there are other guests, presumably someone saw Lloyd arrive, presumably there would be a large amount of blood to clean up if they killed him. There is no way for her to get away with that. And then…Lloyd just disappeared and cut all their hamstrings🙄

Perfectly sweet

Just what the heart ordered. The right kind of opposition. Not that stupid stuff of doubts involving other potential lovers.

So sweet

I love how the main characters really support each other. The story is very addicting and I can't wait For the manga and Book 3.

This volume had much more suspense than the last one, not just from the growing threat of human pests but also from the status of our main pair's relationship. Other than that, it's just as heartwarming a read as the first volume.
