David Annandale is quickly becoming one of my most favourite Black Library authors ever. The pace was just perfect, the action was great and bloody, and the ending very grimdark. An awesome W40k e-short. Can't wait to read more about the Flawless Host Chaos Space Marine and the merciless Carcharodons Astra loyalists.

It was good. I like both the Flawless Host and the Carcharodons. However, I had hoped to see more of the Carcharodons in a story nominally about them. Though such a short story can only fit so much.

I very much liked The Judges, In Their Hunger.
It was a satisfying story, deciding the fate of a whole world in an informal court of nuance and ambiguity. Despite its length, this story delivered an intriguing scene, introduced a bigger picture and still had action and a lot of grim darkness weaved throughout.

Unlike a lot of other short stories in this particular series, The Judges, In Their Hunger did not make me feel robbed of a satisfying conclusion, or like the action had no place in it, or that the plot was underwhelming. It works very nicely with the format, concentrating on one scene, but giving the reader all he needs to know about the situation. None of it felt wasted, or unnecessary, and as a result this became a story very easy for me to recommend.

Readers familiar with 40k should find the Carcharodons shown here also quite intriguing, and I would very much like to see David Annandale writing more about them in the near future.

By the Dark Gods they really saved the best for last didn't they? The Judges, in Their Hunger was a phenomenal micro-short featuring one of my all time favourite Chaos Space Marine chapters, and loyalist chapter I have been dying to get a better look at! To start, The Flawless Host is judging the world which they have taken. Annandale really captures the horror of the Flawless Host and how easy it is for a loyal Imperial world to fall. From there, the action is insanely awesome(if a little one-sided), but I will take that as a necessity of word count. Annandale proves once again in my eyes, that he is THE writer to tackle not on the insane cosmic horror of warhammer 40k, but also the all too human horror that can be accomplished in this grim setting. Well done sir!

Sendennis has fallen to the Flawless Host. As Lord Commander Lord Nathaniel Bellasun makes a choice that would decide the fate of Sendennis and its populace, Space Marines from the Carcharodons arrive to end the traitors.

A micro-short story, The Judges, In Their Hunger uses its limited word count to full efficiency. Told in third-person point-of-view, it keeps close to Bellasun. Through his thoughts, the reader sees the splendor of the Flawless Host and the rage of the Carcharodons, allowing the reader to see why the implied final verdict is cast.
