Starry Skies in Ferry Lane Market is the second book in this brand new series. Well it's my first book and I'm gutted I didn't read the first installment, as I adored this one so much. So I will definitely be reading them both as there's lots more I want to learn about Hartmouth and Ferry Lane.
For me there was no problem with reading this as a standalone, as all the threads to previous storylines were explained perfectly and wow are they juicy!
Oh how I adored the Ferry Lane Market, the ambiance, the eclectic bunch of characters, the quaint descriptions, I could go on but you really do need to uncover this magical place for yourself.
I loved Star she's such a relatable character with a big heart and a huge mystery she's about to discover answers to, when the mysterious Jack walks back into hers, and her daughter Skye's lives.
Not to mention the incredibly rugged and handsome Conor, who's taking residence in Kara Moons flat, after having to make a quick getaway from the life he had to leave behind! I'm a sucker for an Irish accent so I was championing him the whole time to win Star's heart.
Yet again Nicola May has written an absolute gem of a story, she is such an incredibly talented Author. She has a special way of bringing her stories and characters to life and making you fall in love with every single bit of the story and always leaves you wanting more!
Starry Skies in Ferry Lane Market is a Heartwarming, Witty, Enchanting and Romantic story, full of secrets, drama, Heartfelt Moments, Loveable, Eclectic and Endearing Characters and a Stunning Location. Once I started reading I was so absorbed I didn't want to put it down! I can't wait for the next installment! If you haven't yet had the pleasure of reading any of this Authors books then I highly suggest you give them a try as once you do you will be hooked!

I am loving this Ferry Lane Market series. From its completely believable and relatable characters, to the masses of plot and development not just for the main characters but everyone in Hartmouth, it's just a sheer pleasure to read.
We get to catch up with Kara Moon from the first book, but the main focus for this story was Star, her daughter Skye and the interesting relationship she has with mother Estelle. Plus seeing just which of a couple of possible men she may just end up with.
I love the down to earth way all the characters talk, as though you could hear them at your own local market. They really are just salt of the earth sorts of people, trying to earn a living and are completely real!
This was a rather absorbing read which once I got back into the swing of life in Harmouth again and had regained my bearings, I was completely hooked. I was enjoying insights into Jack's life, Star's interactions with Connor, and a touching revelation from one of boys working the ferry.
With action and drama and emotion plus various secrets to uncover this is a wonderful addition to the series and I'm already looking forward to seeing what will come next.
Thank you to Netgalley and Hodder for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Despite it getting off to a very cringy and slow start, and the fact that the authors perspective of a charming man in my opinion is borderline pervy, I didn’t completely give up on the book!
If you can get past all the “red flags” the terrible attempt at the Irish-isms (she gets a star for trying), the editing error, the cringy attempts at racy talk (the big man & I’d like to eat your Irish sausage, to name a few!), and the fact that none of them are clever enough to use protection, then there’s a little story for easy escapism in there somewhere.
This is the second book in the Ferry Lane Market series and after reading the first one and loving it I just knew I had to get my hands on this one ! And I am so glad that I did!!! I was more than happy to dive back into this beautiful market!
In this book we have Star Bligh (love that name!) , when she was 16 she got pregnant and she thought that her life was over.... but she is now the owner of a successful jewellery stall in the market while being an amazing mum to her daughter Skye . The main complication in her life now is between Jack the handsome American who left with no word and Conor who manages to sweep her off her feet.. when Jack comes back to tell her why he had to leave does she want to hear it?
This book is such a joy and pleasure to read , it is the type of book that you can cosy up with and just get completely lost in it. The characters are so well described and the way the book is written you get completely drawn into their lives . They are amazing to read about , they are so realistic like you could be reading about someone you know , they are honest down to earth characters that you can relate with.
Overall an utterly fantastic read , heart warming and keeps you wanting more and makes you want to visit Ferry Lane Market !
Multi-layered characters in a heart-wrenching story
Starry Skies in Ferry Lane Market is a story about the effects of a troubled past, hard choices, and questionable decisions.
Star came from a broken home, had a drug-addicted parent, and was a teenage mother for her daughter Skye.
She was a business owner, a mindful daughter, and a worried parent, but the past still played a massive role in who she was and how she saw the world.
I found the story very touching, and the emotional conflicts felt very real. Star was not the typical rom-com heroine; she was very flawed and layered, strong, and at the same time vulnerable.
There was a romantic triangle, but I did not see it as the center of the story. I don't want to give spoilers, so I will not enter in details, but I honestly think she would be better off remaining single (lol).
I enjoyed the scenery, the sense of friendship and community, and how Star overcame insurmountable obstacles and emotional pain.
Warnings: cheating, drugs, unprotected sex.
Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley for an honest review.
The Ferry Lane series delivers yet again!! I don't know how Nicola May does it, but she manages to capture the essence of a caring community and all those human experiences that real life throws the way of people! It's a series that feels so comforting to read as you feel you're amongst friends and you're part of their lives as the drama plays out!
In this story, we are mainly following the life of Star! She was a teenage mum and is now in her 30's and has made a real success of her jewellery business at the market. But she feels like something is missing and is dealing with complicated relationships in her family! She was devastated when the handsome Jack in her life upped and left quickly a few months ago with no communication, but she's doing what she can to move on with her life - the lovable rogue Conor might be able to help her with that when he turns up in town looking for his own new start!
What I loved about this was the relatable issues and problems the characters were facing - there are friends around to support, family around to frustrate and a few secrets revealed from the past that are about to shock a few of the locals and all they thought they knew!!
It all bounces along at such a lively pace too that there's never a lull in action and goings on - just like real life! There's always some drama going on or laughs to be had and it is just one of those books that keeps you turning the pages quicker and quicker to find out what will happen to your favourite characters next!
Already counting down the days to the 3rd book in this series and secretly hoping it never ends!! This series has it all and I love it!!
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 Starry Skies is the second in the Ferry Lane Market series, and whilst I insist on reading books in order, you really can read this as a standalone. Nicola does a great job of going over everything that's already happened subtly within the story (which was super helpful for me!) There's also the vague theme of Christmas towards the end of this book which makes it extra special.
Whilst I didn't adore Kara's character and therefore didn't love the first book, the second focuses on Star and I loved her character from the beginning so I knew I was in for a treat with this book.
The thing I really like about this series is that it's set in a poorer town (I know I said this in my review of the first book, but just in case you missed it) and I'm so used to reading about all these wealthy people or people who are financially comfortable, that it's refreshing to read about a whole town that is generally poorer, and their lives are still fascinating.
Jack and Riley however, felt a lot more familiar to me and I LOVED the chapters about them.
I was rooting for a certain couple the whole way through and so I really liked the direction this book took. And whilst I did enjoy the first book in this series, I definitely preferred this one. I got quite emotional at the end and had to blink back a few tears.
I'm really looking forward to Rainbows End In Ferry Lane Market, and I also loved the tie in with the Cockleberry Bay series as I've bought the first one to start soon!
When Star Bligh got pregnant at the age of sixteen, she thought her life was over. Now thirty-three, mother to Skye and owner of the successful jewellery stall in Ferry Lane Market in Hartmouth, Cornwall, she wouldn't change a thing about it. Well, maybe one. A few months ago she fell hard for American visitor Jack, but then he left without even saying goodbye and ever since she has struggled to get him out of her head. Until the handsome, roguish Conor turns up and sweeps her off her feet. But then one day, Star is shocked to bump into Jack. He's back in Hartmouth to tell her why he left - but is she ready to listen? As things get more complicated with her love life, another revelation threatens to turn the lovely world she has built for her and Skye upside down. But could this be the one thing that will make it complete
Thank you to Netgally, the publishers but most of all Nicola May for allowing me to read this little gem! As a follow it can sometimes be difficult to recapture the same atmosphere within a story but Nicola May manages it effortlessly. This latest instalments feels like a continuation of the first book and for that i am truly grateful! Heartwarming, cozy and laugh out loud at times this book is the perfect addition to your autumnal reading list. (as long as you dont mind losing 3 hours as you wont be able to put it down!) Loved it
This author is brilliant I found this book a fantastic read was hooked straight away was good to still hear about past characters from the last book. Full of romance heartbreak and families and being happy. Such a warm read and the characters are great and you just want to read on to see what happens. Star had her first child when she was very young and has brought her up by herself. Star has her own jewellery business and has a stall on the market and makes it all herself. In the summer she met jack and she can’t get him out of her head and feels she still loves him but he went back to America and his girlfriend and he didn’t even say goodbye to her but she still thinks of him. But Conor turns up in the village abs he sweeps her off her feet but she has this feeling she doesn’t love him. She learns something that could change everything and she feels she has to stay with Conor but then she bumps into jack as he’s come back and things change as she realises she still has feeling for him but things get complicated and he leaves again and she’s heartbroken. She realises something but thinks it’s to late with jack as she gets a text saying he’s getting married and don’t text again so she thinks her life has been lost again will things turn out in her favour or will she be alone again.
Having read the first in the Ferry Lane Market series, I was pretty excited to be able to visit again, especially since the author, Nicola May has created a fantastic cast of memorable characters, and I wanted to find out more about what was going on, This book is centred around Steren, or Star to her friends and family, a single mother, with several layers to her own story, as well as her background. Being the product of a single-parent family, herself, and one which wasn't the best, she has been determined to be the opposite to her own daughter, Skye, though, she, like her own mother, has been hesitant to let Skye know the identity of her father. Skye is now older, with a life of her own, and it's time for Star to think about herself more. Two prospective partners on the horizon; one unavailable, one she's not sure of, though he's a loveable Irish hunk... Across the market, other stories unravel, bringing the community together in ways they never imagined. I loved how this story ended, and can't wait for book three, now! Many thanks to NetGalley and Hodder and Stoughton for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
Loved it! Even more than book 1. Now this quickly becomes such a comfortable read, like when you put your most cosy pyjamas on. Such a gorgeous bunch of characters, all making me want to visit the stunning Cornwall all over again.
While book 1 focused on Kara Moon and her flower market stall, book 2 focuses on her best friend Star Bligh and her jewellery stall. Amongst other drama in their lives!
This is a book to enjoy and forget about your daily worries, don't go in expecting twists that shock you. Although I felt like I knew what was coming, there was one little revelation that I didn't see coming, and it brought a tear to my eyes I must say.
Some important topics are raised here, all very subtle, but clear and heartfelt all the same.
I loved how Star's story tied in with the magic of Christmas. It really cheered me up, despite some sad moments. Warm, funny, and very satisfying.
'Between what is said and not meant, and what is meant and not said, most of love can get lost' ❤
Ferry Lane- sarjan toinen osa.
Goed geschreven, slecht verhaal.
Picked this one up after reading the first in the series yesterday. This one wasn't as compelling as the first, I didn't particularly like Star as a character but I'm pleased to have read it. I will read #3 as I have it on my shelf- hopefully the third one bounces back.
Ideally I’d have given this a 3.5 but having to choose between a 3 and a 4 I plumped for a 4. The book was a good, easy read. Pure holiday escapism without having to think too much hence the 4.
