Scarlett pimpernel in the colonies

This story is the scarlett pimpernel set in the colonies right before the revolution-with sex. It has quite a few intimate scenes, not all happy. The emotions are clear and heart wrenching. The ending is happy for more than one character.

What??? Five stars for being derivative??? Um…YES!!!

I know, I know, but I’m only slightly ashamed to say I absolutely LOVED it for just that reason.

Ok, yes, it’s the scarlet pimpernel, specifically the movie, stuffed in a slightly different setting, sometimes even regardless of logic, but I don’t care in the least!!! I’ve been dying for a book like this - one that goes more into the feelings of the characters in that specific story. My heart is so happy!!! Hooray!!!

Six stars for awesomeness
Minus one for an awful cover (in my humble opinion)
Total: five stars - ha!

What a great story! Many twists and turns. Max and Penelope are great, vivid character as were the secondary characters! Would love to them have stories!

I had just read the Scarlet Pimpernel, and saw a review that this was like a retelling of that story. While it mimics the outline of the Scarlet Pimpernel, this book went more in depth into the characters' backgrounds and feelings. I also thought this book was a little reminicent of A Rose in Winter which is one of my favorite books... ever! Overall, I enjoyed this book.

Funny colonial take on The Scarlet Pimpernel. Don't read if you're not into romance novels. Ugly cover.

Re-read in February of 2020. I really enjoy it. Mary got on my nerves but other than that, it's a good read and a fun story line.
