This pretty much does what it says on the tin: it's a catalog of 1000 characters from various video games. As this book was published around the year 2000, it is missing about a decade's worth of game character design, but despite that its coverage of characters from 1980s and 90s video game characters is vast in both depth and scope. If you're interested in game/animation/comics character design or the history of video games in general, it's a wonderful thing to own and a number of my friends majoring in animation-related fields at the Savannah College of Art and Design would often carry copies of this to class even though it wasn't a required text because it's a great means of seeing a ton of various examples of different characters in every manifestation from early design sketches to final game renderings to ornate cover art for game boxes and ads.
