BOOK II IN THE HASEA CHRONICLES

It’s been six months since Alex and Gabriella stood against The Sorrow and won. The Veil still stands uncrossed. With every passing day, the possibility of finding the person stolen from Alex alive diminishes. But after an influx of new Awakenings, the Alliance is being stretched to breaking point. A melancholic Sophia is acting mysteriously and Sage Faru has set the formidable task of gathering a team of Guardians willing to enter Pandemonia. Meanwhile the looming threat of a new, stronger SOS hides in the shadows.

But that is the least of Alex’s worries.

Something is growing inside of him. Something dark and vengeful that whispers in the silence. Something that plagues his dreams with visions of a horrifying apocalypse.

An apocalypse he will start.

As Gabriella struggles to hold everything together and Alex struggles not to fall apart, one thing becomes clear. Before they can cross the Veil and stand against Hades, Alex must first defeat his greatest enemy. Himself.

Stuart was born in the smoky outskirts of london. After years spent running the rat race, in 2008 he knew it was time to start working on the novel he’d been threatening to write since he was 16. several scrapped storylines, and one English and Creative Writing degree from the University of Birmingham later, The Awakening landed.

Stuart was more shocked than anyone when the novel became a sleeper hit and set him on an entirely different and far more exciting path through life than he ever expected.

Cut to 2018. six novels, a novella and several short stories down, Stuart spends most of his time in his home in Worcester, continuing to pen the bestselling Hasea Chronicles series, as well as new science fiction/fantasy stories, all whilst avoiding the addictive siren call of daytime television.

In addition to the ongoing hasea chronicles, Stuart has written the golden Wing - the first book in the children’s fantasy series, Tommy and the Simbots, and is also hard at work on London Burning, the first novel in the dystopian series, The Grit Saga.

An Electrifying Sequel Filled with Suspense and Self-Discovery

In "The Corruption Book 2 of the Hasea Chronicles," author Stuart Meczes masterfully continues the gripping saga that began with "The Awakening." With intricate world-building, heart-pounding suspense, and a cast of characters that leap off the page, Meczes delivers an enthralling sequel that delves deeper into the complexities of its fantasy realm while exploring the internal struggles of its protagonists.

Six months have passed since Alex and Gabriella's triumphant victory over The Sorrow, but the aftermath of their battle is far from peaceful. The Veil remains uncrossed, and the hope of recovering the person taken from Alex diminishes with each passing day. New Awakenings emerge, straining the Alliance to its limits. The enigmatic Sophia's behavior grows increasingly mysterious, Sage Faru embarks on a quest to assemble a team of Guardians for a perilous mission, and a formidable SOS threat lurks in the shadows.

Amid this turmoil, a darkness stirs within Alex—an insidious force that speaks to his vengeful instincts and haunts his dreams with apocalyptic visions. The chilling prophecy he confronts casts a shadow over his every move, and he must grapple with the terrifying realization that he may be the catalyst for the very apocalypse he dreads.

As Gabriella valiantly strives to hold the fragments of their world together, Alex's internal struggle becomes a focal point. The novel weaves their individual narratives in a symphony of tension, drama, and self-discovery. The dynamics between characters are richly layered, and their growth and evolution are portrayed with depth and authenticity.

Meczes' writing thrills with vivid descriptions that effortlessly transport readers to the realms of Hasea. The intricate world-building deepens, revealing more about the magic, politics, and intricacies of the fantasy universe. The pacing is expertly managed, as suspenseful action sequences are juxtaposed with quieter moments of introspection, building an irresistible momentum that carries the story forward.

At the core of "The Corruption" is a profound exploration of identity and the struggle against one's own inner demons. Alex's internal battle adds a unique layer of complexity to the narrative, showcasing Meczes' talent for crafting emotionally resonant arcs. The novel's overarching theme of self-discovery and redemption is woven seamlessly into the plot, adding a layer of relatability that grounds the fantastical elements.

"DILECTI SURGEMUS - SOCII POLLEMUS" echoes through the pages, embodying the spirit of resilience and unity that defines the Alliance. As alliances are tested and heroes are pushed to their limits, the theme of collective strength resonates powerfully.

"The Corruption Book 2 of the Hasea Chronicles" is a spellbinding continuation of an epic journey. Stuart Meczes' deft storytelling, evocative prose, and multi-dimensional characters create a tapestry that will enrapture fans of fantasy and adventure alike. With its tantalizing blend of suspense, introspection, and supernatural intrigue, this sequel firmly solidifies Meczes' place in the pantheon of modern fantasy authors.

The Corruption is the second book in the Hasea Chronicles and picks up six months after where the first book ends. This book is much more fast-paced and filled with suspense that will keep the reader hooked until the very end. The author has done an amazing job with world building and I absolutely love his style of writing, especially with the alternating points of view between Gabriella and Alex. This helps to provide their different perspectives as well as the story through each of their eyes. The opinions of the characters and how they view each event as well as how they take decisions are brought out through this.

This story focuses on the internal battles of the characters and while we are in a fantasy realm, the internal struggle to find one's identity is something that we can all relate to. Alex, having defeated The Shadow now faces an internal struggle of good vs. evil as he tries to reconcile his darker side with the righteous one. I believe that the author handled this very well and even though it spans many chapters, the story telling makes it all worth the read!

This book has much more action and a strong focus on characters while giving the reader a sense of the developing world. Despite the introduction of many new characters, the author does each of them justice and I think they have enough space in the plot to carry it forward. At each stage, the reader is taken along on a journey that is darker than the first but with some light at the end of the tunnel.

Having read both books 1 and 2, I admit that I am a big fan of the Hasea Chronicles and am looking forward to entering The Veil along with Alex and Gabriella as well as all the others who join them in their quest.

Spoiler-FREE review infuriatingly simplistic, melodramatically short report of ‘The Corruption’

“A SACRIFICE OR THE RISING. FORSAKE ONE FOR ALL, OR ALL FOR ONE. THE CHOICE WILL BE YOURS ALONE.”

2.5/5.0 Okay really quickly, IF you had read the review I wrote for the first one, you would know I was pleasantly surprised with how it went. I’m not really going to go over really what the sequel is about because if you read the first book then the synopsis could do a way better job than that. What I will say is that I was disappointed in this sequel. On a subjective level, there were 2 or 3 tropes/ plot elements, that were introduced that I like to deem my “pet-peeve tropes”. I know not all hate them but me particularly I did not enjoy them in the story that much. On top of that, I felt there was a LOT of filler through the 600 pages. In fact, I really didn’t start getting excited until about the last 25% of the book. I am glad it ended on a good note but it was just a shame for the rest of the book. Because of the end I will continue on and see where we end up, fingers crossed.

I love to read. I love exploring new worlds and discovering new characters. There are just some books that make me feel like I am right there in the middle of the action, these are my favourite kinds of books.

“The Corruption” by Stuart Meczes is the second in the HASEA Chronicles. Six months have passed since Alex and Gabriella fought an incredible evil and won, but all is not right in their world. Something dark and sinister is slowing taking hold of Alex. It plagues his dreams with visions of a horrifying apocalypse.

Since The Sorrow has been defeated, there has been an influx of new Awakenings stretching the Alliance’s resources to their maximum. With Alex’s father still missing in Pandemonia, Sage Faru has begun the incredible task of gathering a new team of Guardians willing to sacrifice it all to cross through the veil. With the looming threat of a new and strong SOS army will Alex and Gabriella be able to stop the impending apocalypse? Will Alex be able to fight the evil that threatens to consume him?

The author, Stuart Meczes has continued the story of “The Awakening” seamlessly. “The Corruption” doesn’t miss a beat. You find yourself in the midst of the fierce battles and competitions. I found myself so engrossed into the book that I would start reading faster and faster as the action increased and slowing down during the less hectic sections of the book.

The author has created an incredible world where death and destruction lurks around every corner, but where friendship and loyalty are something to be treasured at all costs. “The Corruption” has a slightly different feel than his first book, “The Awakening”. He tells the story from the viewpoint of different characters. I love that you get to see a different point of view of the events. You feel their pain and joys, and their fears and confidence.

The book is perfectly set up to lead into the next book, which I’m truly excited to read.

The first book left it in a bit of a cliff hanger where the main character, Alex and his friends were about to set off to the Veil, where his father is believed to still be alive.

Honestly, I was a bit disappointed in the storyline. I was looking forward to reading about the Veil and discovering what adventures lay beyond, and so I felt a little let down that they they didn't get there. Instead the whole book was spent preparing to go to the Veil. However the story wasn't all bad and the novel finished on a dramatic high, with all the great traits of the first book came flooding back.

Characterisation was spot on, and I enjoyed the twist in Alex's character as he struggled with his inner demons. He continued to grow from the first book and Meczes did a good job in adding further layers of depth to Alex. The other characters also got a fair look in.

The action scenes were brilliantly written, just like the first book, and the author has a way of creating vivid, tense scenes that are easy to picture.

Conclusion

Not as great as the first book, which admittedly set the bar rather high, thus making this review appear more critical that it perhaps warranted. The book still held much of the qualities of the first, just not enough.
Now I'm looking forward to the third book in the series, which should be out soon.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

It was amazing, the plot has come to a point where a lot of things come to a close and other to their beginning. It's incredible how much the characters have grown since book one and there are a lot of plot twists here and there that will blown your mind.

The book will keep everyone wondering what will happen next and it will be very difficult to put it down, I almost couldn't and devoured the book in a few days, stopping only when major plot twist came in scene to absorb everything right.

What I can say personally didn't like too much was that the first chapters were a little slow and some to the end feel that way too, but they didn't last long and when everything else come in place you will be rushing in an adrenaline cart too hard to leave.

The first in this series was slow to gather my attention, but once it captured it, I can hardly put these books down. Although the British English can throw one off a bit, it was not enough to detract from the enjoyment I found in reading the first two in the series.

This book is quite a bit darker than the first, so I would recommend younger kids or adults who offend easily to not read these books. There is graphic violence and adult situations, but it is well written and is easy to follow the story line. The characters really are starting to evolve and I cannot wait for the next book! #haseachronicles

I purchased this book for free for an honest review. (And I honestly love it!)

This was a very highly enjoyable read. I have to admit that when I first started reading the first book in this series, I was not sure I would like it. But after getting a few chapters into it, I was hooked. Now after reading this, the second book in this series, I find that I have a new favorite series. I am really looking forward to the third book in this series.
For me, personally, this is a great read, and I know it is one that I will read again in the future.

I really wanted to like this book BUT the ridiculous choices made by main characters over and over really ticked me off. Honestly, halfway through I just wanted it all to end. Sadly, I do not care enough to read any future adventures since it seems highly unlikely that any of these characters will get any smarter.

Much better than the first one. Darker too, Alex has to face his inner demons... literally.
We also get two new POV Gabriela and Danny a new chosen that joins their team. The new POV's gave the book the diversity that the previous one sometimes lacked.

I will not go into spoilers, so i will just say that the book is good and if you have read the first one you should give this one a try.

I had two problems with this book. Nothing really happened and it was full of filler.

I understand that this is the second book in a series so of course there will be some filler. But when you put an unnecessary 60+ pages of filler dream sequence in them book you are doing it wrong.

The book was good besides that.

It was an enjoyable, but tense read, my stomach was in knots for most of it. Did notice quite a few spelling and grammatical mistakes though, is that just common with kindle versions (the first I've read digitally) or editors not picking up?
