It’s January and although I’m not a fan of the New Year’s Resolution the start of the year is a great time to pick up your 365 day, or your “something” a day, type of book. Now I happen to have in my possession the most adorable little spell a day book you could ever want to own.
“A Spell A Day: For Health, Wealth, Love, and More” by Cassandra Eason is an amazingly diverse book of spells that quite literally has a spell for every occasion. First off, there are 366 spells in case of it being a leap year. Good catch Eason! Second, her introduction mentions that idea of opening the book for a spell at random. Suggesting that perhaps the spell you need will find you. I love that kind of thing. Third, it has a great index. With spell books, you want a good index because at some point you’re going to want to find some spell you read and you are NOT going to remember what day it was on.
Lastly, did I mention how cute it is? For reals yo. It fits perfectly into my small girl hands, and more importantly I can hold it open with one hand, which means just about anyone should be able to hold it while casting spells. It has a nice heft. It’s got a nice fabric and embossed spine. The font is in purple (I like purple). If the spells weren’t done so well, you could mistake “A Spell a Day” as a puff piece based on the book’s lovely physical appearance. Just remember, you should never judge a book by its cover. Just consider it a bonus feature when it’s awesome!
Cassandra Eason has crafted an interesting and diverse book of spells that, in my opinion, a beginning or experienced magic practitioner would find worth adding to their collection.
The book is undoubtedly gorgeous, both on the outside and inside and has a very handy index, that makes it easy to find the spell you need. But a lot of the spells require some witchy equipment or ingredients that I wouldn't have at hand (for example a big ceramic or glass toad/frog...? what??).
For most purposes, you'd probably find simpler spells, that are done with less components. If you want to do some shopping before you start your spell work and want it to feel extra special, then this is for you.
Very good book, with lots of spells, from traditional to modern. (Who would have thought getting rid of a bully at work with a computer could be so easy!) It's not meant to be a "spell a day" really, but more of a collection of 385 spells that you could use any day and any time.
Each spell gives you the components, which are easy to get; the timing if any; and then the spell itself. You can even make a "spell jar" with some of the traditional components in a jar, and the spell attached on a string, kinda like those cookie-recipe jars that people end up getting at Christmas. This would be far more interesting and practical than that, I would think.
Some of the rhymes are forced and clunky, but rhyming helps with the rhythm of the spell. The great thing is its index, much better than Llewellyn's "Spell a Day" Almanac. Definitely a keeper and useful on any witch's shelf.
I love Cassandra's work and I really liked this book, so much that I ended up buying it (original copy was from the library). Halfway through reading this thought I realized there was an index at the end of the book (facepalm) which is helpful if you're looking for something specific. Otherwise, I found it pretty fascinating and interesting of what the book offered. I bookmarked some spells I would like to do and am excited once I get the things I need for them. Even though the book is called "A Spell a Day", it's not meant for you to do a spell a day or in order of the book. It just means there are enough spells in the book for you to do in a year with 97 percent of them able to do at any time. There's a couple spells that require you to do them at a specific moon time or day. It's a small book, but thick with a very pretty design!
As you might expect this book is nothing but “spells” which will help you get rich, turn into werewolf, find love, turn into vampire and other not so clever things which can’t happen by just lighting candles and saying some words in the woods.
I can’t say much about these so-called spells because I don’t know who people review spells but if any of you know that please let me know.
After going doing my research on Goodreads about this book I found out that most of the people who have read this book liked it but I didn’t.
The language in this book was pretty simple but some explanations were really hard to understand. It might be something to do with English being my second language but yet again I never read any spells before this book.
As I’ve said above I’m very skeptical person when it comes to everything out of the ordinary and magic is one of these things Im very skeptical towards. And this person didn’t do a good job at conniving me that magic is real.
I absolutely adore this book by the amazing Cassandra Eason, also the way the book is designed is so sooo beautiful and super cute. The first spell I tried from this book was the rainbow spell and I really loved it!
Well, it's good. However, the ingredients/materials and timing of spells and such are oddly specific. It's good, like I said, but it'd be nice to have some spells that I won't have to buy too many ingredients for or wait on performing.
I’m absolutely in love with this book, it’s everything I didn’t know I was looking for. I highly recommend it, for both beginners and experienced readers.
The spells are very charming and simple, and the cover of the book is amazing as well. I love the small size, it feels nice when holding it.
Again, loved it so much and am so happy that I purchased it!
