I read this again with my youngest child at 7, and it provided entertainment during an ER visit. It was interesting enough that another chapter was asked for each time the prior chapter ended, despite everything else going on. The child particularly thought it was funny that Mrs. Wren wanted carpet in her nest, and decided it must be made of leaves. Original review below.

This was an interesting read for my kids (5, 8, 10) to do together with me. Each chapter contained a cliff-hanger that kept them wanting more. It's a little more dramatic than the book "Uncle Wiggily and His Friends," but not overly scarey for my kids. This book also tells more about Uncle Wiggily's family than "Uncle Wiggily and His Friends."
