Can romance survive an embezzlement investigation?
Was it his gaze from across the blackjack table? The little nick on his chin that she wanted to kiss and make better? The way his bright blue eyes seemed to see to the heart of her? Whatever it was, Laura Todd was pulled in by Fox Thornton. A whirlwind Las Vegas romance followed, but things heat up again in Miami, in all the wrong ways. Embezzlement, ambition, and erotic romance aren't the perfect match, but that's all they have. Will it be enough?
Lily Bishop was born in a small town near Athens, Georgia. She attended the University of Georgia and received a Bachelor's in English, and then enrolled in the MFA program in Creative Writing at Purdue University. After a year, she left the program and moved to Atlanta. Like a siren's call, Athens wanted her back, and she returned to Athens where she received her Master's in Public Administration. She now lives in the Upstate of South Carolina and works full-time as a database administrator for a university.
She married a man she met while in college, but they never dated until ten years later. They have two children. When she is not writing, she and her family are playing German or Euro-style board games.
Lily writes contemporary romance and romantic suspense, and her goal is to blur the lines between romance, chick lit, and women's fiction. Her books are peppered with family members who make things complicated and couples who can't seem to find a way to be together.
Lily writes with a Southern flair, but her characters find themselves in exotic locations and sometimes dangerous situations. She loves to interact with readers about her characters and stories.
No Strings Attached is reminiscent of a Mills & Boon novel – strong, female protagonist, handsome male lead and a plot designed to keep them apart. Any of the site’s regular readers will know I am a big fan of the M&B formula so getting into this book was like slipping my aching feet into a pair of warm comfy slippers.
The plot is incredibly well constructed with a tight prose, meaning not a single word is wasted. Both Laura and Fox are solid characters - with Laura being down-to-earth and relatable and Fox being a league above your average male. The sense of mutual respect is a very likeable aspect to the pair’s relationship and, personally, I think this draws the reader in and has them rooting for the couple at an early stage. Their chemistry is realistic and the steamy scenes are well written and not over done.
Lily Bishop ups the ante on typical romance novels by taking the story into murky waters, where you’re never too sure which characters are 100% trust worthy. This is a relaxing read with enough tension to keep you hooked until the final page.

This book is a great romance that ticks all the boxes for me. There is a hunky hero (Fox) and the sizzle of sexual tension begins straight away. Laura is intelligent and a good character struggling to keep down a job to pay the bills and send her sister to college. Laura wants a bit of fun and feels she deserves the attentions of an attractive man for a while. However work soon gets in the way for both of them and Fox must investigate the company that Laura works for. Sent to find the reason why the company is losing money the finger points to Laura when lies are easier than the truth. This is a well written book, I could easily picture the luxurious settings and the pace of the writing fits the storyline. The author promises to tell us more about Fox's brother Lee and Laura's sister in second and third books, which will hopefully be available soon, I shall look forward to them. This review is based upon a free copy of the book given to me by the author.
I had some problems with this book. I liked the story but didn't like the characters: Laura, the heroin, is a doormat. She has no self respect. Fox, the hero, is an ass. The relationship between H and h is not believable. At I don't believe that romance can flourish when there is distrust. Fox accuses Laura of theft and she goes to bed with him just a few hours later. He didn't even apologized but she forgives him the same. I'm still deciding if I'll give the second book a chance.
Girl goes to Vegas and throws caution to the wind by having a steamy one night stand with hot guy. Oops back at work and said hot guy is now her boss! Racy scenes and sexy banter along with plots and twist of missing funds makes this book a good read. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Okay. Although their relationship was more sexual than anything else, there was at least a plot to go with it. Are women really dreaming of primarily sexual relationships without real knowledge of their partner first?? What about respect and mutual understanding?
I enjoyed this book. Lily Bishop does a great job developing the storyline and her characters. The sexy Fox and the headstrong Laura make a good opposites attract story. I recommend this book.
Ich weiss nicht was ich dazu sagen soll irgendwie seltsam aber zum Teil trotzdem gut und mit dem Ende kann ich irgendwie nicht wirklich was anfangen...
The storyline was well plotted and kept me guessing. There's a lot of back and forth between the two protagonists which I liked. Laura isn't a pushover. She's smart, educated and knows what she wants and won't settle for less. Unfortunately there were so many typos that I would have to go back to ensure I didn't misunderstand what the author was trying to convey.
This was a really good read! I'm quite ready to read the rest of the series when I start buying books again. After I get caught up on what's already sitting in my Kindle and nook waiting for my attention.
Laura's hardworking, smart and quite naive. Fox is rich, clever, and very taken with Laura. He's also investigating the company she works for.
It's an outlandish romp with a Paula Dean type character in there and a foreign island with gambling and embezzlement and even a bit of kidnapping! Through it all, the characters stay true to themselves. They are well written and interact very well. Even the ones that are minor characters. Somehow, the author makes this all work and seem possible.
Lily Bishop takes the reader along for a fast-moving story of love and deception in the offices of the corporations. Not everything is as presented at conferences and symposiums....whether in Las Vegas, Florida or Califonia. Laura and Fox meet without knowing that their positions will change when his company takes over and she is working for him! His brother, Lee, and her sister, Lindsey, both play their parts.....and his mother would like to be able to control all as she does her cooking program on TV.
I read this book straight through. I loved the characters and the story. I can't wait to read the other books. I really liked the twists and turns the story took. Will definitely read more from this author. I received this book as a gift from the author and absolutely loved it.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I fell in love with this book and the characters! I couldn't put it down, every I thought I had everything figured out there were more twists and turns! I can't wait to read more by this author, truly amazing.
Meh. Nothing special. The plot was pretty weak and predictable. The characters rather flat and boring. This was a freebie from one of the book promo subscriptions I started subscribing to (I can't remember which one).
A different take on why bite collar crimes. Also how opposites attract and that one person that you love and can't live without is there and can strike you at any time or place.
I enjoyed this book. I liked the story and the characters. There was a bit of intrigue thrown in although it wasn't difficult to work out the bad guys. Just a decent, solid story that was well written.
