Tess O'Mara has $1 million appear in her bank account on New Year's Day 2000...she calls her brother at the Treasury Dept. and he says she might be in trouble, so he tells her to go to Almost, AZ, and meet his old friend, T.J. McCall. T.J. takes his job protecting her seriously and of course, romance ensues...
hmm...I really liked this book right up until the end. It seemed a little abrupt and without complete closure to some parts of the story. I was left a little confused about the historical connections. Things also seemed to go from No to Yes a little too quickly without explanation.
Overall, I liked the style and story. I will read more of Christina Skye's books...

I guess I’m the odd one here, so many people seem to have not enjoyed this book. I first read it back in 2016 and it’s a book I’ve always remembered since. My favorite books are ones you can’t put down and create amazing imagery in your head. Although I can say there isn’t anything super special about the writing style, it does create those images and the story flows nicely. This one hits close to home for me, maybe because I live in a desert and the sound of coyotes howling at the moon is one of my favorite things to listen to where I live. The atmosphere of the book is very cozy and warm and your heart just feels so full. Nothing better than a romance where the woman is kind of stubborn and the man is very bold about his feelings. It gives me the same sense of connection that Ally and Noah had in The Notebook. I love this book and would highly recommend it to others. Sometimes books do not need to be written so complexly to love them. The ending with the past life twist was maybe a little unnecessary, but it added to the vibe of the book. Just read it, you never know you might feel the same way about it as I

Yes, it is by its very nature, dated… but for those who were adults in 2000, the uncertainty of that time is very relatable. Good book.

Sure, for this genre the writing was typically trying too hard to be evocative, but the story was pretty cohesive and believable. The dogs were the stars.

She calls the bank and they said they would have to research the transaction and call her back. She goes out and spends some of the money and when she talks to her brother Andrew later she tells him about her conversation with the bank, Andrew immediately is on alert and tells Tess he wants her to go to Arizona until he can find out more. He sends her to his friend T.J. To protect her while he investigates. At this point the relationship begins. This was a good book, it read fast, had some mystery as to how did the money get in Tess’s account. I liked T.J. And Tess. Tess really enjoys helping people and she helps the town’s people get businesses going and with fund raising ideas. I have read many of Christina Skye’s books and would read more.

It's the new millennium and EVERYONE'S worried about Y2K taking down the computers and the ATMs and THE WORLD! (sorry, I think this is hysterical and I did back in 2000 too when everyone thought it was going the be the end of the modern world as we knew it!)
Tess O'Mara's a modern woman with modern wants. She the head of ... well ... she's a PR guru. I don't know how else to describe her. She's the shit when it comes to her stuff though. And she's just sold out every port of the cruise ship that she was working on the campaign for. She makes everything she touches gold. And her boss is giving her a bonus ...
Then comes Jan. 1, 2000.
Tess decides to check her ATM account and withdraw some funds. But to her surprise (a very pleasant surprise) there are 1,000,000 reasons she needs to go on a shopping trip. A new hairstyle, a leather jacket, some clothes and a baby blue convertible later, Tess calls her brother in Washington to ask about the strange amount of money she's received after the bank can't track where the credit to her account came from.
Turns out something very illegal is going on and Tess has been caught up in the middle of it because of a Y2K glitch. Her brother wants her some place safe where an old friend will watch over her.
That place is Almost, Arizona (aka East-Cupcake-ville). And the friend that is going to be watching over Tess is ... well, think Mel Gibson in the late 80s/early 90s.
T.J. McCall is hot ... and tired ... and sick of trouble. That's why the ex-Secret Service agent is now the sheriff of the town out in the middle of no where, but after an old friend, Andy O'Mara, calls him asking for help with his baby sister, T.J. knows he's in for it.
The tension between these two sizzles and sparkles. My only problem with the book was that at times Tess seems to have these "spells" where she is halucinating that she is in the old West (I'm talking back when the Native Americans ran the place and the whitemen hadn't even been seen on the shore of New England, yet). Then all of a sudden ... nothing. They go away. She can't explain it ... no one can. They don't even bring it up again. That was a little bit of a problem to be but all in all, this was a good start to the Seal/Code Name series.

A glitch in a millennium computer system, that she didn't know about, added a million dollars to Tess O'Mara's bank account. What's a girl to do with a big bonus? Spend it. And that was how she ended up in the middle of nowhere stranded. Actually she ended up in Almost, Arizona.
Sheriff T.J. McCall finds a very lost and obviously suffering from heat stroke woman wandering around her car, wearing a coat in the heat, looking at a map. She needed help and fast, convincing her to come into town with him was just one more glorious problem to add to the list. She must be the sister Andy O'Mara called him about earlier in the day.
After Tess spent some of the million on herself she talked to her brother Andy who told her to lay low for a while and sent her out west to meet up with his old service buddy T.J. Andy never suspected that Tess might be in some real serious danger or that she and T.J. would sizzle together.
I liked T.J. and Tess together, I didn't really need to know he was a dead ringer for Mel Gibson. Mostly because I read this after he lost his marbles so that detracts from the hotness level.
I was confused by the flashbacks Tess kept having and thought there was going to be something that came from those in regards to her and T.J. but nothing happened there. It was a little odd storyline wise but I actually liked the flashbacks, would have liked them more if they meant something.

OK, I really liked this book. It was about the Y2K problems with the banking system and how a computer glitz turned Tess O'Mara's life around. She was sent to Almost, Arizona by her brother to have T.J. McCall protect her until the authorities could figure out exactly what was going on.
This small town in Arizona was nothing what Tess had pictured but somewhere in her past she had been here before. T.J. was the Sheriff and he was prepared to protect her, no matter what, but could he protect her from him and his heart. They were from two different worlds but were caught up in the drama here in this small town. Without knowing it, Tess fit right in and everyone loved her, even T.J.
This was a great book and one that you should read.

This was a 2.5-3* book for me. There were just too many errors for me to really fully enjoy it. I found editing errors, and consistency errors. I frequently had to go back passages/pages to check to see if I was reading to fast or if the information was just not presented earlier. More often than not, she was including something in the story without setting it up at all. Which is sad because I liked the premise and thought it had great potential. I will give this author and series one more shot before making a final decision about it, but if it continues in this manner the chances are not good.

I really enjoyed this story. Y2K, New Year's Eve celebrations, Arizona scenery, visions of the past...an awesome blend of contemporary and ancient. The descriptions are wonderful, evocative, and intriguing.
Even though it's written for the year 2000, the story is not dated.
Definitely worth a look, though a small portion of the content should be rated adult. The rest of it is suitable for family.

the plot was good and McCall was good to read abou. But Tessa the amin femal character....she got on my nerves sooo much. I am Okay with a strong headed female, but she was a little bit tooo strong and soo dense. She really need to live a little bit, instead of working her life away. I am glad tht McCall opened her eyes.

This was my first book by this author and it keep me caught up in the book until the end. Of course somewhat predictable, but once you've read a bunch of books they all become that way in a small part.

A woman wakes up on January 01st, 2000 to discover she has won $1,000,000. She goes on a spending spree and then thinks that she might be in trouble so she heads west to a small town so that she cant' be found. This is a wonderful little town, with a very handsome man. Great story!

The start of the book was alittle slow and the weird flashback/vision were odd but over all I love the story and the characters that played in the book, TJ was cute at the end and how he made Tess stay in Almost...
