"A concise, engaging biography for young readers... A fine addition to easy-reading biography collections." — Booklist "A readable account of the life of Coretta Scott King... this biography shows her to be a courageous woman who can stand on her own merit, and not just as the wife of one of the world's most well-known men." — School Library Journal
From her childhood encounters with discrimination to her activism as an adult, Coretta Scott King dreamed of finding a place where people were treated equally. This compelling biography tells how she joined her husband, the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. to lead protest marches and stand up to prejudice and violence.
Well ,even if it seems like a short concise biography devoted for young readers, it was Heart-warming <3 The title is so inspiring , as well as the story .
Coretta Scott king Dare to dream is a book that goes back in time to the days when Black people were treated worse than we are today in the year 2022. Coretta and her family made people respect them by doing things that people thought they would never do, But that never stopped her or her family from doing good things. In this book Carreta uses her beautiful soprano voice to bring blacks and whites together and stop racism. She was married to Martin Luther King Jr., together they were a power couple that changed the world they were a couple that showed what strong Black people were like and that if they could make change so could we. I loved reading this book because it was worded nicely and made a lot of sense were some books have more complicated words and aren’t factually correct. It also starts when Coretta was a child all the way up to adulthood.
This book will give elementary students a look into the civil rights movement and dare them to dream. In some cirrculm when the books are dominated with ones written by white men this book would be a opportunity for colored kids to see a story that they can relate to as they see the fight against racism and challenges kids to dream.
Sobrang concise. Pero damang dama ko ang struggle not just of the Kings but the whole colored community. And it paints this evil picture of the white people back then. Sobrang ridiculous na may politician that has a slogan that says, "Segregation Forever".
I'm always losing hope for hunanity but then again with kindness and acceptance we've come a long way since less than a century ago. One small step at a time.
"I never thought I could save the world, but I felt that I could work and make some contribution to make things better for people who come after me."
Now that is consideration for the future generations.
This is a good small book that made me think about my character and if I am using my time on earth wiselt or to the progress of my fellowmen.
This book makes me want to read My Wife With Martin Luthrr King, Jr. to dive deeper into their story.
I read this book in order to facilitate a Gr 3/Gr 4 book group at school. This is a good book for young readers to learn about Coretta Scott King. I actually learned some things I didn't know, too. I liked that is has endnotes. The kids had referred to the end notes without needing to be told!
• Excellent Middle-Grade biography. Part of Puffin's (Penguin Group) "Women of Our Time" series. Read from a public library and buying for my granddaughters. •
