The 4th book in the Illustration School series focuses on the subject colors. A good understanding and use of color is a key skill for artists and designers to master. The popular illustrator Sachiko Umoto 's exercises on magical color selection show you how to enjoy colors and express your feelings with colors, with each exercise accompanied by cute illustrations and simple color exercises. Adults and children can equally enjoy and learn how to use colors through this book.
Cute. Inspiring for doodling. Colorful. The size of the book is also cozy. An encouraging color-theory reference to keep handy for a reread or a perusal for inspiration now and again. Includes activity pages. Adults (doodlers, parents/grandparents, elementary-school art teachers, children's librarians) and kids alike could enjoy this book.
Charming and delightful. Simple in its treatment of how colours affect drawing but at the same time, thoughtful. Works well for both older children and adults. Pages to colour are a bonus but I can’t bring myself to add colour - it’s a cute reference book for keeps.
I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway a long time ago, and I finally did more than skim it this year. It's not quite as structured as I'd like, but it's great for inspiring one's creativity.
As a rockie artist, this is the most fascinating ways to teach children about art especially on how to make magical colors. Sachiko told the children that colors have meaning and can speak out their identity and not to mention, the emotion. Moreover, he also put several palette collection in case children wanted to know what colors to describe certain condition (personally I love his palette on coloring 4 seasons). I guess i will let myself buy 3 other books by Sachiko because I can not except more than his magical imagination. Other than that, I will teach my future children about art through this book.
How cute is this book? A: Very. I picked this up to get some doodle inspiration (I need help when it comes to drawing dogs) and was so charmed by the artist/author's visual translation of the world. I love her relationship to color and her work; she has a great sensitivity and humor about her. I'm really digging the Illustration School books.
I think it’s good for teaching absolute beginners or kids how to draw and pick the right colours. Check out my full reference books collection here: http://korpannita.wordpress.com/2013/...
Notes: I have Sachiko's other Illustration School books... but this is the first one I've read front to back (the others I've only perused through for inspiration). It's past midnight, and I'm feeling inspired to draw...
