I really enjoyed the mystery in this one and the characters. However, there were a few things with borderline content (the hero "stifles a foul swear" and considers "watching the boob channel"; a bad guy "calls a woman a foul word")...that's too descriptive, for one, and not the action of a hero, for two. To say it like that immediately prompts my brain to fill in a word.
Otherwise, an enjoyable action story.

Having met David in
it was nice to get his story in this book, and to get to know him better in this romantic suspense set in Colorado. I liked that we met up with Chris and Maddie again, although sadly it was only briefly.
Now looking forward to reading Janice's story in

The concept of this mystery was great. Two murdered women with nearly identical tattoos show up in David Greene's path at two different times. When the second body turns up in the trunk of a mother and daughter who arrive at his house in the middle of a blizzard, he does his own investigation. That said, the romance between him and Laurel felt fast, and the foreshadowing could have been stronger.

Laurel found herself in the same mess as David. They would be blamed for the murders but they were not involved. This quick read had lots of twists and turns and a surprise ending. The one suspected was really the "helper" to solve the happenings.

Decent suspense story with a bit of romance thrown in. The main characters are people of Faith, but it's not "in your face". I didn't quite see the twists at the end, which is good in such a story.

This is the second of Ms. Nelson's suspense novels that I've attempted to read. I say 'attempted', because the first one fed my burn barrel, it was *SO. RIDICULOUSLY. HORRIBLE*. So needless to say, I wasn't really looking forward to this one, as a result.
I'm here to tell you that - of the four dozen 'Love Inspired: Suspense' novels I've read, I've only kept ONE of them... until now. This book surprisingly is a keeper. The action is good, the character development was well done, the plot was solid, the writing wasn't horrible... I was impressed. And I'm pretty durn hard to impress, these days.
There's a 'society' of young girls who made a pact to marry rich men, using their beauty to secure money and power. But when they (now women) start dying off, it's a race against time to save those who have inadvertently stumbled in the way.
David was accused of killing his girlfriend, but he's convinced he's innocent. On the anniversary of her death (which... okay, I have to take a half star for THAT contrivance), a woman and her daughter arrive on his doorstep... with a dead body in their trunk. One that has the same tattoo as his deceased girlfriend. Now these two women are being framed for her murder, just like he was.
As the action moves to Denver from David's remote cabin details emerge, they realize that there's something far bigger than just two unrelated deaths going on. And I'll tell you... I didn't know who the murderer was for sure until nearly the end, which... kudos, for that. I took another half star for the contrived plot pivot that lands them BACK at the cabin, again, though. It's like the author had a good thing going, but had to stupid it up, some. Could've done without that.
BUT...! I did enjoy this one. Very much. And I would highly recommend it, from amongst the LI suspense disasters on the bookshelves, out there. Definitely keeping this one - and looking to see if there are others with these characters (there are hints that maybe Chris and Janice may also have stories...)
PS: Found 'em. Chris' story is before this one - 'Betrayal at the Border', and Janice's story comes after this one - 'Shake Down'. How 'bout that?!

A man once accused of murder meets a woman...with a body in the trunk of her car. Oddly enough, it's a match made in heaven...?
Suspenseful with lots of great interaction between mother/daughter and wannabe boyfriend-protector/ wannabe stepdaughter. Love the relationships, love how twisty the plot is. Jill is masterful when it comes to suspense. Overall, a great read.

This is the 2nd book I read by Jill Elizabeth Nelson. This book's storyline was okay. I liked the Christian theme in this story. Laurel's character was okay. David's character was okay. I liked the ending.

Loved how unique the characters are for a romantic suspense -- neither are in law enforcement of any kind. That made the read all the more edgier -- especially when you take David's past into consideration. I was captivated by the dynamics between hero and heroine...so complicated and that complication is enhanced by the slow reveal of both their pasts. A real page turner. The very end is a surprise. Just how i love them. 5 stars.

A gripping story about revenge on a group of women that went after wealthy men. Several years later the murders start to pile up until a male suspect if found and then a snow storm rips through and strands a mother and daughter wind up on the man doorsteps; turns out when they went to get their luggage from the trunk only to find a dead body it in. Now it's up to the person who was accuse of murdering his girlfriend to get to the bottom of this mystery to save the girls he loves .

I really enjoyed this cozy mystery. This is my first book read from this author and I hope to read more from her in the future. I give it 4 1/2 stars. The story has a religious/spiritual aspect to it that many may enjoy.

Maybe a little less, but, for this type of novel, a very solid book. It has too many characters, so keeping track was difficult, but this was necessary for the story.
