What was the line you heard from men in nasty mid-life crises? You got older, but the corpses stayed the same age. Something like that.

Omar thought things like that, but what he said into the recorder as he began the examination was, "Colin Stafford, white male, age twenty-seven, height sixty-nine inches, weight one hundred ninety-two pounds."

"This work could have adult content. If you proceed you have agreed that you are willing to see such content."

Aren't those warnings the very best?:p

Meet Omar, who works with "people" and is about to examine a handsome male specimen. Not that he is particularly excited about that. Because Omar works as a pathologist. And his patient is dead. The young man apparently dropped dead in an aisle when grocery shopping. Just like that. However, Omar’s in for the most interesting day at his job ever. And probably the most interesting one of his life as well.

"FffffffuuuuuUUUUUCK!" came the most vehement swear Omar had ever heard out of a dead man before. He staggered back away from the autopsy table as he tried not to echo the word himself.

Hello, hello! It's me. That broken record again. I can't help it. This is another deliciously entertaining story. This author has a way of grabbing you with her imagination and her effortless and hilarious dialog, quirky, lovable characters and the believable way in which her MC’s get their romance on. No silly tricks, no artificial plot devices..everything runs smoothly in the Domashita Department.

Here was Omar, a pathologist (who worked with 'dead' people), when one night, one of his 'patients' turned out to be, well, NOT dead. No, it wasn't a paranormal story. The situation was a result of combination of bipolar-disorder medication which made Colin (that was the patient's name) looked dead. The two formed a bond -- in between movie watching, texting (more Colin than Omar, because well, Colin was younger -- he was the text generation *lol*) and Omar's wonderful dogs, and they found that they were attracted to one another.

------------

This great FREE story stopped where it was JUST getting somehere (DARN IT!!). Which was why, it was short of being a full 4-stars rating. I loved the idea -- it was different. I felt that both Omar and Colin would definitely make it just fine -- despite that Omar being older than Colin. I also loved that this had interracial relationship (Omar was black, Colin was white).

The conversation between them flew naturally; it didn't feel forced reading it. Here were two guys who felt a connection and gave a relationship a try, despite Colin being a little fucked up in the brain. One of my favorite moments would be when Omar's dogs made friends with Colin (Colin said that pets NEVER loved him, but Omar's dogs proved otherwise).

One thing for sure, I would LOVE to pay for this author's works. Her writing suits me to the "T"; the kind of writing that clicks with me from the start. But maybe go with self-published route. I always feel that authors whose free stories I love reading online seemed to lose some of their 'sparks' and 'freshness' when they went published by publishers *shrugs*. It is just a feeling, of course :)

I have to say I went with the reviews by Kat and Ami for this one, and I definitely wasn't disappointed...thank you ladies x. 4.5 stars

Omar is a pathologist, whose work is obviously mundane...no bodies jumping up at him and trying to escape the table...however, the body currently on his 'slab' is exhibiting signs of life as far as Omar is concerned, and 'dead man walking' or should I say 'dead man lying on the slab' whose name is Colin, is definitely alive!!

Colin has had a pretty rough few years...I'll leave you to find out the details, but we discover that what has happened to him this time around has actually happened before...except that the pathologist then wasn't as diligent as Omar, and had actually cut Colin's chest open before he realised...God Almighty!!

This was a touching and heartwarming tale in the end, I really enjoyed it.

Dead white boys can't jump.

Fun premise, with a gentle buildup to a mild-mannered finish.

I felt like the talking padded too much of the story, engaging as it was—but in the end I found myself greedily reading on as usual.

Romero's the shit.

Re-read - Still love this ficlet recommend almost everything by Domashita

A lovely couple with a story that's the perfect mix of sweet, heart-bleed and laugh out loud funny. I loved this.

The opening scene is one that made me think - that's horrible, must be so scary - but only after I stopped laughing! 'fffffffffff' :D

Omar is a darling and totally owned by his adorable doggies.
Colin awww, so in need of ..Omar and his doggies!

The surface tale is cute and if you look that little deeper it's even more heart warming.

I went into this story knowing just one thing—Domashita Romero wrote it. Really that’s all I needed to know.

She had me in one line…..

”FfffffffffffuuuuuUUUUCK!”

Haha…What an opening! Screw meeting someone in a bar, online, or the damn supermarket! This is the way to do it! A gem of a moment that made me laugh out loud. Hilarious, sweet, and creepy. Perfect! The whole story felt so alive with imagination, life, death, laughs, and loves.

Omar and Colin meet under extremely rare and bizarre circumstances. *giggles* One hell of a first impression! But what comes out of that meeting, what develops and warms between them is theirs to live, breathe, and build off of. A unique moment in life that sparks up a friendship with chemistry and comfort. I loved the way these two shared space together. Colin and Omar filled the room with energy, humor, food, and enthusiasm. I wanted to invite myself over for dinner and join in. I loved listening to them talk and share.

Some of my favorite Romero bits are the supposed small details. A worn, down to the threads hoodie, a flurry of texts, a hand squeeze, or this….

“he’d been in times where he’d felt so deeply alone he’d have gone anywhere just to know there was another heart beating nearby”

That sentence—the way she describes loneliness knocked me on my ass. Made me want to fill the empty spot in my life and heart ASAP.

Complicated Creation captures the beat and pulse of life in a way only Domashita Romero can.

Recommended read.

A warm, cute short story with hidden depths, I absolutely loved it. That unique beginning draw me in immediately, the characters came alive so quickly on page (!), and the feel good factor just went through the roof for me with this one!

If you're looking for a gay-romance short story with a strong emotional ride that leaves you breathless with a tear in your eye..... read this free online tale.
This is so good that I would be willing to pay for it and I don't pay that often :-).
Of course as short stories always do you'll be left wanting more. (Why oh why do short stories leave me like this?! They're so cruel!)
I fell in love with these two characters as I watched them fall in love with each other.
Collins mental health issues were really realistic (OK maybe not the dieing and coming back to life bit, but the bipolar side).
Omar was such a prince.... what a great couple!
Here is where I remind readers that this has hot gay sex inside so it's not for anyone under the age of 18 nor anyone who is opposed to such material.
I give this gay romance erotica short story 4 glittering stars.

I sooooooo get the avalanche of events! And I can completely comprehend the relief of finding someone with whom you can share the trials and still be appreciated and through whom or with the help of whom you can feel affirmed that, yes, despite it all, I made it, and I'm not seen as a basket case for having borne all these troubles. So this story moved me for that reason.

What left a hollow note, though, was my feeling that it may not have been Omar so much as anyone there...and I don't like that. The list of reasons to date seemed cerebral. I need a connection to be more than convenience.

Good writing and an interesting premise but the take home memory for me on this one is the author's ability to evoke tension on several different levels. I was watching for signs of mania in Colin, thinking about the interactions of his meds, worrying about him having another horrific "near death" experience and really hoping he would get it together with Omar before the story ended. I also had a weird feeling the author was going to pull a stunt, like make Colin a deader after all, just another little tension threadlet to deal with. In short, it was like doing an MMSE while reading a sweet gay romance with the threat of a zombie apocalypse looming, all before I got out of bed this morning. Three and a half stars rounded up to four is my rating.

Funny, quirky little read. Managed to be both amusing and fairly deep, in a short amount of space.

A favorite quote:

"You aren't dead," Omar said, even though what he wanted to say was Again?!, but even though his chosen line of work didn't require him to have a bedside manner, he kept one in his back pocket for special situations.

Quirky, fun read. Definitely not your run-of-the-mill approach of meeting potential date material. And I totally loved that about this short story. It's endearing. All in all a nice, little and different romance.

It's a strage story, but that strangess was refreshing. I would have wished to know more about Colin's issues and how they deal with them. The ending scene was a glimpse into it, but... just a glimpse :D

I can always count on Domashita to cheer me up after a disappointing book. I love her realistic characters, the naturally flowing dialogue, and her ability to bring out the humor in less than ideal circumstances. Colin had me laughing and smiling constantly, and Omar was such a sweetheart. Such good stuff.
