Instead of collecting her soul, he captured her heart. Marigold has a date with Death, but when she foils his plan to take her soul back to Hell, she invites him to dinner instead. Mictain, a former Aztec god who collects souls for Satan, is baffled at his interest in the plump witch who can see him. Intrigued, and in lust, he can't help pursuing her. But things are never simple when gods are involved. Lucifer, Lord of Hell, tries to warn him away, and even Marigold's long-lost father decides to butt in. Yet, despite the opposition, things heat up between them, and Marigold learns that when Death comes calling, it's best to get naked and invite him into bed-and her heart.
Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .
I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
A Date with Death by Eve Langlais is a cheeky, erotic tale about a witch and an Aztec god. In beginning of the story, Marigold (a witch) is trying to rid herself of her pesky freckles by ingesting a self-made potion which, unbeknownst to her, could potentially take her life. Mictain, the Aztec god of death acting as a minion to Lucifer on assignment to take Marigold’s soul to hell. Marigold spies Mictian before she takes the potion. She is not supposed to see the Aztec god, and he is intrigued even though his assignment is not completed due to Marigold’s refusal to follow through on ingesting the fatal brew. Instead, she invites Death to dinner.
This paranormal tale allows for the reader to make a reality jump in believing in the instant attraction of the leading characters leading to a relationship. The author’s voice is humorous. She often alludes to modern political references when Lucifer comments on incoming “prisoners.” In addition, Eve Langlais adds a little mystery and mythical intrigue to grasp her reader into the erotic story. Plus, there is an emotional tug the reader feels toward Mictain. As a god who is normally able to handle strenuous circumstances is oriented into a helpless situation where he is made to feel frustration and longing when his need to assist his lady love is not met. He is placed into a helpless position; therefore, he has to call on help from the Fates.
Eve Langlais has created a delectable read with a love, intrigue, and a snarky voice peppered with very erotic moments which erupt between Mictain and Marigold. I joyfully recommend this narrative to fans of hot, paranormal romance.
Eve Langlais has another winner with A Date with Death. I found this novella cleverly written and very sexy. Then again who wouldn’t love to read about a sexy Aztec god who collects the dead for Satan? Mictain isn’t your ordinarily grim reaper that we have come to know today, he is a little different. He’s sent to collect a witch not fall in love with her. But then Marigold is no ordinary witch either. As the daughter of one of the more powerful, he may ended up being dead himself if he isn’t careful. This was another fun read by Eve. If you want something short sexy and fun, here you go.
I loved reading both Mictain and Marigold. Marigold is a fire ball in sex and life in general, so don’t get on her bad side. After Mictain made a grave mistake with Marigold he has to be persistent in winning her love. It makes the reading more fun when the hero has to work on winning the heroine;)
Tease: Screw it, he probably thinks I’m nuts already anyway. She peeked down and bit her lip at the bulge which filled out the fabric as she watched. Maybe we should skip dinner and go right to dessert. “Would you like me to get naked so you can get a better look?” His sarcastic words made her tear her eyes away and look at his face. Marigold smiled wickedly. “I’d love for you to get naked, but you might find my kitchen chairs cold on the ass seeing as how they don’t have any cushions. But, it’s up to you. I sure wouldn’t mind some visual candy while we eat.”
Last night I was looking for something short to read before I went to bed. I chose this book because the heroine, Marigold, is a witch who's not scarecrow thin and the hero, Mictain, is an Aztec God who works for Satan. You don't see a lot of Aztec characters in romance. That was what really drew me in. So, I bought the Kindle edition for $4.50. I want $2.25 back.
I'm only asking for half of my money because I liked Mictain quite a bit, but I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's back up a bit.
We meet Marigold as she's mixing a potion that she believes will get rid of her freckles. Right before she drinks it she turns and finds Death standing behind her. It's Mictain, the Aztec god of death. He's swooping up souls for Satan and Marigold's next, just as soon as she drinks that potion. Marigold though, she refuses to drink the deadly potion and gets all sassy with Mictain.
Time out.
I understand that Marigold's supposed to be wit personified, as well as ballsy. I get that but, dude, you're getting sassy with Death. You might not want to piss him off. Marigold obviously doesn't want to die but she's giving Death the metaphorical middle finger. It's incongruous.
After giving Mictain lip, Marigold asks him back to her house the next night for dinner. She just wants to sleep with Mictain. I mean she gets a Brazilian wax for him and everything. She puts perfume on her "pubes". Yes, pubes was the word used. That word is the anti-sexy, in case you were wondering.
While we're talking about things that are the anti-sexy, I would like to put Marigold under the heading of Anti-sexy. I understand women who are bold and confident. Those women are indeed sexy. Marigold is more like a cranky cat in heat. I could picture her humping furniture. At one point, Marigold goes out to a club wearing skintight leather pants and a sheer belly shirt with no bra underneath. Hoes-R-Us was having a bargain basement sale and I think Marigold was the first one in the door.
Luckily, Marigold was balanced out by Mictain. Mictain was the cutest Aztec god of death ever. He was really bad at interrogation and not quick on his feet when he was confronted with the fact that a human could see him. I wanted to pinch Mictain's cheeks.
Satan was also a pretty funny character in this story. He was kind of like a mischevious child in a couple of the scenes. He liked to pop in and sneak up on people.
Basically, I liked the men in this story and Marigold made me roll my eyes. A lot. I've been coming across a lot of heroines like her. Women who are supposed to be witty and tough but just come off as snarky, annoying and lacking in common sense. Did I mention that she mouthed off to Satan too? Yeah, I know. I couldn't believe it either.
All in all, as annoying as Marigold was, I would try Eve Langlais again. The whole Aztec god thing wasn't something I don't see a lot of and like I said, I liked Satan and Mictain.
Wow! That was a helluva hot book! Steamy hot! Mmmhh!
The story is really good and I enjoyed it a lot! It was never boring and I couldn't stop reading!
And the sex scenes... Gosh, they set me afire!
Marigold is a naughty minx! Very naughty! And I liked her! She is a strong woman, who knows what she wants and does whatever she can to take it, even though she needed some time to understand what she felt for Mick...
Mictain is a little pig and he turns me on like hell! Gosh, but he's sexy! He makes me purr as a naughty kitty! Prrrr... I love him!!!
Lucifer made me laugh, he was very funny! Is he the same Lucifer as in the Princess of Hell series??? It seems so, but I wouldn't be so certain... Anyway, I loved him!
Zeus was very disappointing, instead... *puzzled face*
I would like very much a sequel of this book! I know it will hardly happen, but I do wish anyway...
I recommend this book, because it is amazing!!!
Don't know now whether to give it 4 or 5 stars!
Make it 4.5 even though it shows 4 stars. I don't rate it 5 stars just because it was a short.
Marigold invited Grim Reaper Mictain to dinner when he's supposed to be there to take her soul. Turned out she's got some unusual heritage that Lucifer knows about and wants for his future minions.
(Note: this audiobook is narrated by Eva Kaminsky even though the Audible site shows Mindy Kennedy as narrator.)
A great quick read. Not many authors can give you a sexy book filled with witty humor. I found myself laughing and fanning myself all in one book.
Marigold is a force to be reckoned with. Shes a feisty little thing and she isn't going to take any crap whether its from a God or Satan himself. Speaking of Satan, I found myself wishing to read more with him. Hes actually quite funny and peeking Tom.lol.
Marigold and Mictain had great chemistry and you really felt the connection with them. The banter between them was so fun! You will for sure have a smile on your face when reading it. And well their other activities were just as fun too!!
Great book. It was funny, sexy, had lots of action some mystery and is sure to satisfy any adult who enjoys paranormal romances!!
One of my Favorite Quotes from the Book
"Marigold knew she should celebrate having escaped Death's Clutch, but instead she found herself a little disappointed. Now how will I get him into my bed for heart stopping sex?"
This book was not my favorite of the series. I normally love the snarky dialogue and saucy heroines but the storyline fell flat for me. I thought the insta-lust was not believable and I would have liked more character development before Marigold and Mictain started plotting to get into each other's pants. I enjoy the series but this installment left me unsatisfied.
Book 2.5 from the Welcome to Hell series. Paranormal romance novella. Witty and fast on the erotic side of the genre.
The instant connection and lust was a little much for this short novella. I generally love these books but this one fell a little flat on the characters depth.
Overall a quick read from the Hell dimension with funny antics by Lucifer.
This book was a really fast read - Their whole relationship became within a day - but a LOT happened during that day :)
Marigold was minding her own business in her apartment, whipping up a potion to get rid of those silly freckles on her face once and for all. When all of a sudden, she wasn't alone anymore.
"Who are you?" "You can see me?" "Of Course I can see you, I'm not blind"
This tall hunk of a guy in front of her didn't know what to think about that. But he introduces himself as Death's Reaper - So he's here because she's about to die?? Well forget that - Mirigold is smarter than that, she decides to forget taking the potion, she doesn't want to die - But that kind of ticks Death off - He gets frustrated with her, not just because he can see her, but now she's messing with his schedule! NOT to mention the funny things he's doing to her...
Never has a mere mortal ever turned Mictain on like this - one look at her and he's ready to lose control over himself. He has no idea what to think or do about this human who is going to get him a lecture from Lucifer himself!
But instead of kicking the Reaper out - she invites him over for dinner tomorrow night - he pops back out of her house, back to Hell where his apartment is. Lucifer is waiting for him. He is NOT pleased. He wants Mictain to do whatever is necessary to get closer to this human and find out HOW she can see through his invisible cloak.
Well he already had the invitation, so why not use it :)
This ebook was a fun read - they had good chemistry with each other. I loved Marigold’s sense of humor lol Or lack of :) She tried hard with the sexual induo's but she knew how cheesy it sounded as it left her mouth.
Now Mitcian, Just look at the cover :) Says it all right there :) yummy :) And he has a sense of humor to match.
In this story - Marigold’s "father" decides he wants his daughter back (even though he left her mother before she was born, and she had no idea who he even was)
Lucifer owed her father a favor, so he decided to let the half mortal live. But not before warning off Mitcian - "if you break her heart, I can't stop her father from ripping your ears off"
But Mitcian didn't plan on breaking her heart :)
Once word got out about Marigold, demon's started showing up, trying to kill her in order to get back at her father.
Lots of action in this story - both fighting and romantic - This was a fun read with a great ending :)
And You gotta love Lucifer's Sense of humor too :)
Usually I drip the good stuff for Eve Langlais but this didn't do it for me in any way shape or form. I started this on the 26th and I was all into it for a page and a half and then my mind started to wonder. So I put it down and did something else. Since then I have picked it up a handful of times and it just gets worse for me, the mind wondering that is. The book just isn't holding my attention.
I'm not sure why this is. I like the heroine so far, the hero seems intriguing and the premise and quirky like 'the Langlais' loves to do. But for me it's missing the pizzazz or sparkle that makes Langlais one of my favourite authors.
So what's a girl to do in this situation? Well I went and picked up The Geek Job by Langlais and I'm hoping that will work out better for me.
Sometimes this sort of thing happens. I'm not sure if it's how the book is written or if it's me, I want to say it's me because generally Langlais does a great job. Maybe it's the Death thing. Charlotte Featherstone Seduction and Scandal has a heroine writes about Death and I can't get into that book either ... so ... maybe I need to talk to my therapist about this.
** I did end up finishing this book and enjoying it, but again, I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have expected from a Langlais book.
Title: Date with Death Author: Eve Langlais Publisher: Liquid Silver Books Publication Date: 2011 ISBN: 978-1-59578-814-6 Genre: paranormal romance Length: 45 Rating: 4 Diamonds Heat Level: sensual Reviewer: Brecken Stevens Date: June 3, 2011
She never expected to fall in love with Death. Marigold has a date with Death, but when she foils his plan to take her soul back to Hell, she invites him to dinner instead Mictain, an Aztec god who now collects the dead for Satan, is baffled at his interest in the plump human who can see him. Intrigued--and in lust--he can’t help pursuing her. But things are never simple when gods are involved.
Lucifer, Lord of Hell tries to warn him away and even Marigold’s long lost father decides to butt in. But, despite the opposition, things heat up between them, and Marigold learns, when Death comes calling, it’s best to get naked and invite him into bed—and her heart.
Unfortunately for Mictain, the former Aztec god and current soul collector, Marigold has a gift for thwarting death. The infuriating female not only dodges death, she catches his attention. Intrigued, Mictain pursues her, but with Lucifer’s interference and that of Marigold’s illusive father, romance isn’t nearly as easy as Mictain remembers.
I adore Eve Langais’ paranormal stories and Date With Death is everything I’ve come to expect from her. The main characters are fun and interesting, sexy and exciting and the supporting cast is just as great. Date With Death is a great story for paranormal lovers.
Once again, we visit Lucifer’s Hell and he is back to matchmaking again. In this one, we have Mictain, who is an Aztec god of death and a grim reaper. He has come to collect Marigold’s soul. However, there is a problem. She sees him, figures out who and what he is. So, she stops what she is doing, so she doesn’t die. Lucifer wants Mick to figure out why she can see him, because if people see the grim reaper, the number of deaths is going to plummet.
As we go through the story, we learn that Mari has a very special father. She is not aware of her paternal parentage. She thinks that she is just a normal witch. She is very ballsy as she asks the reaper out for a date. Who does that? “I know you came to collect my sole, but since I’m not going to die, you wanna go out for a bite to eat?”
This was a cute and quick read. When I grabbed this, I didn’t realize I was getting a novella. I thought I was picking up book three in the series. I guess that’s what I get for not paying attention and just one-clicking. LOL. I enjoyed the story. I loved the banter between Mick and Mari.
This story was originally part of an anthology, which means it works great as a stand alone story. It is a great way to get started on this series if you are just wanting to give it a try without the commitment of reading a full book. I can’t wait to get back to the last two books in this series and see who Lucifer will put together next.
A sexy and witty novella that will heat up your afternoon!
Marigold is just an "ordinary" witch trying to create a potion to get rid of her much hated freckles when she receives a visit from a very sexy stranger named Mictain, who claims to be reaper for Satan himself. Mari is totally dumbfounded by the gorgeous man in her home and instead of fearing this man who has come to take her soul into the Underworld, she invites him over for dinner! The instant attraction is not at all one-sided, Mick also has the hots for the feisty witch and is willing to go against his duties and Lucifer's wrath to have her.
This is a great novella for anyone that wants to add a little smut to their day or their reading. If there's one thing Eve Langlais does flawlessly it's hot and unbridled passion! To quote the ridiculous words of John Mayer, Marigold and Mictain are sexual napalm together! Marigold is a funny and ballsy heroine who will have you bursting at the seams with her snarky comments. Mictain will melt your heart and leave you drooling...I'd recommend keeping a towel handy while reading! An Aztec god, a witch with a powerful father and a devil with a sense of humor make this story an amusing adventure with a bit of mystery and a shocking revelation you won't see coming. Date with Death is a fresh take on paranormal romance, infused with mythology and plenty of heat guaranteed to satisfy!
This was the story of Marigold and Mictain. This was a pretty entertaining but short story. Definetely good to lighten up your mood and as a quick pick me up. ;) Mictain is an Aztec God who is now serving Lucifer as a collector of souls and he's been assigned to get Marigold as she will die by drinking a potion she makes from an internet recipe.
Some thing had me laughing out loud, for example: the Death Order file with the name of soon-to-be-deceased, and signed by Satan, the Lord of High Sin! Then the hellphone, powered by the souls of CEO's of phone companies.
But when he shows to up wait for her to die, she can actually SEE him. That shouldn't be possible, how can a mortal see him? She must be more than human. So Lucifer assigns him to get close to her to find out what she is.
Of course it helps that she was attracted to him the first time she saw him and had asked him to come back to have dinner with him. But he blows the first date!
He soon realizes that he cares for her more than he has for anyone else in a very long time, and just wants her by his side. He just has to get daddy dearest's approval. But he doesn't know how her father is, and Lucifer won't tell him.
Marigold's personality got a bit on my nerves, but in general this was a fun read.
Another fun read from Eve Langlais and her Welcome to Hell series.
what is the best way you can attract death's attention. Why, fake a suicide, of course. *giggle* Mitcain is one hell of a death god. Not as crude as Remy, but still swoon worthy, declaring war on Marigold's father to claim her and all. But what I liked most of all in this novelette, was, perhaps, Lucifer's more active involvement in his little scheme. And let's face it, his comment about an upcoming meeting with a bunch of martyred Taliban soldiers, was oh so fun;-P Getting to meet Felipe, Ysabel's pet cat in human guise, was another treat, and while he is a free roaming cat at the moment, i am sure Karma's a bitch even for kitties. That guy has love coming his way, I just know it...
As for Lucifer's and Gaia's lovemaking, they just keep causing natural disasters, don't they? Boooyah!
Hated Marigold and considering the hero used to be a charming, sexy Aztec God, he acted like he'd never seen a woman before. They were just awful! The whole, "Who's Marigold's father?" sub-plot was boring as hell. Why make it so clichéd with the father and daughter scene? Ugh.
The writing wasn't that good, either. The dialogue, action and the character's reasoning wasn't natural at all. For instance, the hero's marvellous "investigation" techniques. Yes, because that wasn't suspicious at all. *insert eye roll here* The sex scenes made me cringe. Very painful read! It reads more like a rough first draft than anything.
Who could resist a sizzling hot romance with Satan popping in to offer dating advice? Date With Death is a riot of epic proportions. Every page will shock, surprise, and make you laugh out loud. Ms. Langlais’s talented voice shines brightly with every word. I must tell you a Date with Death is nothing to fear and highly recommended.
What a fun and very sexy story! I loved that the heroine was too smart to see Death and then just continue to go on her merry way. Nope. She was smart enough to think about what she was doing and why that might bring Death to her apartment kitchen.
Overall, this is a great story. It has a sexy male hero, a strong, powerful woman, lots of lust, and Satan as a matchmaker. I can't wait to read the next one.
Another great read from Eve. Marigold is about to die, except she sees death lurking, ready to collect her soul which is meant to be impossible. He is invisible, or so he thought. So when she prevents her own death, Lucifer sets Mictain on a mission to find out how she was able to see him. Instead of finding out why she was able to though, he instead falls in love. I loved this one and can’t wait to continue on with this series.
Marigold is preparing to take a potion to get rid of her freckles when Death pops in for her. She can see him but she shouldn't be able to see him. Now what is he to do. Fun little story. Lucifer pops in and out making it hard for Mictain to find out why Marigold can see him. A good beach read.
This was very short and I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I have other books from Eve Langlais. Typically you can count on Langlais to deliver a fun, lighthearted paranormal romance, but this was, well, sillier than usual and while definitely fluffy it never reached the realm of fun for me. All in all, I found this a skimable and very forgettable story.
His mission was to harvest her soul, but he captured her heart instead. Marigold has a date with Death, but when she foils his plan to take her soul back to Hell, she invites him to dinner instead. Mictain, an Aztec god who now collects the dead for Satan, is baffled at his interest in the plump human who can see him.
Heather's Notes I enjoyed this book more than the last one. I liked Mictain (Mick) and how he went to war for Marigold. I like that Marigold became kind of kickass, but not into some crazy "special snowflake". I will probably keep reading this series.
Oh my goodness was this a sexy little read which left me wanting more more more! This story should have definitely been a longer book not a novella that's how much I enjoyed it. Mictain our bronzed Aztec god with his ebony hair, dark eyes, full lips, and chiseled body was a picture right out of our wildest fantasies. Utterly mouth watering and sinfully delicious this soul collector for Hades himself would tempt any woman to accompany him to their own demise if he was the guide to take you to your final destination lol. No wonder our leading witch Marigold couldn't resist temptation to see him again and asked him out. Ballsy, witty and oh so sweet she was more than meets the eye and more than enough woman to tempt this grim reaper into forgetting his single life of unfulfilling bed hopping. Mictain was deliciously alpha male, jealous, protective, possessive and courageous their was no stopping him once he set his mind to something. They were meant for each other, complementing one another perfectly, both extremely sexual and passionate they burned red hot when they came together. An adorable couple that deserved their happy ending and ow what an ending it was, I just LOVED it, I even had the goofy smile on my face to prove it that's how much I enjoyed it. A short but sweet read with action, passion, drama, and many funny moments starring hells boss himself which too Mictain's horror he could have done without lol.
