Corporate Information Systems #2

Goodness Had Nothing to Do With It

Rate this book
It's another high-stakes game of love, attraction, and desire, but the players have a past and the stakes couldn't be higher. It's not just their hearts on the line, but secrets and the family neither ever thought to have with the other. Marcus Danvers is a man with a plan and that plan is to win, whatever it takes.

SURPRISE, SURPRISE

The last woman security business consultant Marcus Danvers expects to find at Kline Electronics is Veronica Richards. He’s supposed to be rooting out a corporate spy, not rehashing an old love affair—with the woman who sold out the company they both used to work for and then took off without so much as a kiss goodbye. All the clues point to Ronnie as the firm’s newest mole, which means he’ll have to spend time with the stubbornly reticent—and mouth wateringly sexy—woman he hasn’t been able to forget, and uncover every last thing she has to hide…

FANCY SEEING YOU HERE

It’s just Ronnie’s luck. The one man she’d hoped never to see again is suddenly everywhere she looks—and taking up a starring role in her daydreams, too. Remembering the passion she and Marcus once shared certainly isn’t going to help, though, not when she has so many secrets, and no explanation for the way she left him eighteen months ago—or at least not one he’ll want to hear. The problem is, when Marcus is around all her good intentions go up in smoke…

I write spicy romance books that end in an HEA. Contemporary romance, historical romance, paranormal romance…I write it all. The two things my books all have in common is lots of emotion and spice. Last year, I fell in love with a new subgenre: mafia romance. Since I write what I love to read, I started a new standalone series, Syndicate Rules where you’ll meet over the top alpha heroes in the Italian and Greek mafias as well as the Irish mob. There are arranged marriages, forced marriages, enemies to lovers, stalkers, forced proximity and lots of mafia intrigue. Morally gray is my new favorite color.

I’ve been published a while and most of my 90+ books have hit the Nielson Bookscan bestseller list, a few ended up on the USA Today bestseller list and some even hit national bestseller lists in the UK and Australia. My books have been translated into numerous languages and are for sale in dozens of countries around the world. I’ve won awards and been published with most of the big houses in New York, but my greatest achievement is touching readers’ hearts. When I hear from a reader who got caught up in one of my books, I know I’m doing what I’m meant to do.

I love writing emotionally deep stories with snappy dialogue and solid plots. I’m more grateful than I’ll ever be able to express that so many readers have taken my stories into their hearts and put my books on their reread and keeper shelves.

I liked the characters but they were pretty cliche and not my favorite book by Lucy Monroe.

I had high hopes for this second in the series.  The main characters had been introduced in the first book, Changr the Game in the first book Veronica is a super efficient secretary.  In the second book, she may be efficient as an Admin Asst, but in her interactions with the male character she's wish-washy, timid, and insecure.  As the book progressed, I became more and more annoyed with her.

I was also annoyed the Ms Monroe apparently doesn't remember 8th grade English when one learns that the OBJECTIVE case is used after prepositions!  "...given [to] you and I... " is wrong, regardless of how many tv talking heads also say it because they think it makes them sound educated. [ IT. DOESN'T.]. It's ...given [to] you and ME!

In addition, this book was purchased with the title WIN THE GAME, but at GR, when that's put into the search area, a different title comes up - GOODNESS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.

After disapearing out of Marcus's life Veronica fled to France to help her sister recover from a life saving procedure that cost the money from selling the secrets of CIS.

She believe's he is there to help expand the company. As Marcus's list begins to grow of suspects and Ronnie starts to get closer. She relizes that she must tell him a few secrets. After all he doesn't know why she sold out CIS. Marcus doesn't even know she has a sister.

Ms. Monroe just keeps getting better and better. Betrayal, heartbreak and corporate espionage make this story of Marcus and Veronica a book you can't put down till the very last page is turned! Misunderstandings abound, denial and a hot sizzling attraction with a strong and determined woman whose dialogue is smart and direct and Marcus , hot bodied and Alpha extreme, make this another successful journey to happily ever after!!

Great love story

Corporate espionage and love? Can it work? Ronnie & Marcus have experienced so much...many highs and many lows. However, can they find a way back to each other, even if trust is missing? Read this love story as it struggles to happen. I loved it!

My absolute least favorite romance trope: secret baby. There was a lot to like about this book (especially since I discovered my used copy is actually signed!!), but the continued and blatant dishonesty of the MC is a hard one to overcome in my opinion.

No heavy storyline...no overly tender moments....good filler basic romance and romps in the hay - fun and frivolous...like Twinkies :)

A little soap opera-y (what romance isn't?). Typical contemporary romance with secrets. Isn't it better to just tell the whole truth?

Enjoyable follow-along from Come and See Me Sometime although it didn't pull me in quite as much.

Too much soap opera style hand wringing for me.
