Jennifer's life is reeling out of control.

Now, there is no denying her feelings for Alex--or his for her. After spending one night together, he took her to heights she never thought was possible. The passion they shared in that one moment is something she can't shake, and it consumes her, throwing her off her game.

But this is no game. What they have is real. Still, even as events start to pull them close together, other events threaten to tear them apart.

A threat is revealed. People aren't who they appear to be. And then there is their arrangement. Once, she was Alex's employee, the one woman who was hired to make certain he wasn't distracted from his work. Even though they are now in a committed relationship, what will that mean for Jennifer when she agrees to become his employee again--and when one major failure that costs his company millions is directly aimed at his involvement with her? Will their relationship survive--or will it fail?

This story unfolds over multiple volumes approximately 50,000 words each.

Firstly I have got to say I am so disappointed that this book just really doesn't live up to book 1, I totally agree with another reviewer that it is far too similar to book 1 but it lacked the oompf that book 1 has, which is a complete shame. This is a 2.5 star read in my eyes.

So the first 10% of this book is literally copy and pasted from the end of book 1 - I mean this book says it is 315 pages but knocking off the first 10% and it lessens the content quite substantially. Why? Why has the author put so much of book 1 at the start of this book? It's the first time I have ever come across that - EVER!

On another note, sexual content does happen in this book but be prepared to wait till 60% of the way through, you've got to pass a lot of waffle before any action. And therein I have another problem, how the sex scenes were handled didn't feel right to me. There was no mention of safe sex and she is a virgin so I assume not on any birth control? We don't know because it was never mentioned, secondly after a night of heavy passion she was up for it again the next day? Come on I don't think so! She'd just been pounded the night before, first time(s) and all that, yeah I don't think her body would have allowed day 2 action!

I'm also sorry about this following bit too - so he's CEO of a multi million pound empire with hands in many pies and has increased the worth of the company since he took over and then all of a sudden he can't seem to come up with ideas how to pull in potential business any more. The way he hadn't thought of the angle with Cyrus in book 1 was already annoying me and then it kinda happens again in this book, Jennifer has the better business proposal again. Do you not think if this girl was that clever her professors would have made darn sure that she was snapped up by the creme de la creme when she finished schooling? I don't get it. Also we were being subjected to the same scenarios as book 1, Jennifer would go off and have fun with Alex and then would have to go back to Lisa and bring her up to date - huge yawn - totally boring! Not everyone has to sit down with her bestie and do a re-run of every outing.............sigh.....

This has left me really not wanting to read book 3 and that irks me, because on the one hand I want to find out the 'who' element at the end of this book but I really don't want to be dragged into a fourth book. If book 3 is as long and drawn out as this one it'll be so overkill. Also this book is full of what I call 'reflection' text, where the characters analyse and reflect over thoughts and things going on - FAR TOO MUCH! Cut this text out and this book would be halved, it's a book you'll skim read these bits because they are so not necessary and it only detracts from the story.

The one redeemer in these books is Blackwell, god that woman is just a massive fireball of fun, fun, fun! Said the Blackwell way!

I didn't feel that there was enough substance to grip onto in this book, it totally read as a filler to me and I am so unhappy because book 1 was so absorbing and fun to read, the potential was there but I can't see any sign of it in this book. This one is just mediocre bordering on yawn worthy and I truly am sad it hasn't lived up to book 1.

PPFF Rating (for both volumes): 4/5 Stars
Easy read - smart and witty.

ANNIHILATE ME VOL. 1

"What’s your friend’s name?”

“Lisa Ward.”
“What does she do?”
“She writes about zombies.”
“She writes about what?”
“The undead.”
“Who does that?”
“Lisa.”
“Well at last the undead are thin. Mostly skeletal, which is good. I could probably dress them for her.”

This is why I love Ms. Blackwell. She can be such a bitch but I find it more hilarious than offensive.

"Get undressed. Come on. I’ve got to shovel you into a pair of Spanx. I can only hope the ice I had for dinner will give me the necessary strength to do that job."

So Annihilate Me Vol. 2 started where Vol. 1 ended. It even included the last two chapters of the first book to help readers remember that cliffhanger (of course I didn't need it since I read the second book immediately after I finished the other one).

This time around, Christina Ross spiced things up with steamy scenes between Jennifer and Alex (FINALLY). They still had their own issues (typical trust issues from a bad family life, you know, the works) but they are definitely committed to each other.

"Real love doesn’t hurt. Real love is wonderful. It’s loneliness that hurts. And rejection. And losing someone close to you hurts." - Ms. Blackwell

Basically, this book centers on the relationship between the two. Jennifer still continues to question her feelings for Alex. On the other hand, Alex does everything he can to protect Jennifer from the reality of being with him and the possible dangers that go with it.

This ends in a BIG cliffhanger so I can't wait to get my hands on Vol. 3 (which I heard is already out).

Annihilate Me series is a great weekend read. I just wish that both could have been longer.

Annihilate Me volume 2
Christina Ross
4 stars.

OMG I think this one will be short and sweet, I’ve got to dive into volume 3. This series continues to be better and better. Instead of the typical billionaire and poor girl romance that is around so much now, it is pleasant to read about a strong, smart woman that, yes, did come from a brutal background, but carries her own now both in the boardroom and bedroom.

After a terrible 1st date and consequence break up of Alex and Jennifer showed the lengths Alex would go to win Jennifer back. Finding another job she truly loves. But as Alex pushes forward with his want for Jennifer, and a night time career will not stop him. Taking Alex back leaves her dealing with the force of wanting him, knowing their chemistry is super hot, and the feelings he left her with after his jealously reared its ugly head. With no let up, Jennifer agrees to see him, and at that 1st touch all her feelings rise again, this time not wanting to push him away, they fall into a heated night.

Giving her virginity was something she kept for that right man, and she thinks that Alexander Wenn might just be that man. Telling said man may make him run, but is surprised to discover he is even more loving towards her. Taking everything relationship one step at a time, Jennifer becomes irritated. She wants him and has had enough of waiting. All of a sudden, taking a new job with Alex is another drama in her life.

Together this pair will see through many issues, a new relationship with a man known for his womanizer ways will bring the bad out with women from his past, but Jennifer has no issue taking them up on their crap. Telling them as it is, creates a whole new problem, one Alex refuses to tell Jennifer about.

This brings volume 2 to a cliffhanger ending.... one that didn’t surprise me. I won’t ruin it, but if you don’t want to know don’t continue with following reviews. This series must be read in order. To much happens in each story to jump around them. See ya, I’m off to start volume 3.

I'm going to write a honest review about this series, because it's about time some did.

First and foremost, the book started strong. Jennifer Kent, armed with an MBA,great looks and smart head on her shoulders, can't catch a break in Manhattan. She's barely making ends meet and is willing to take anything, including an admin assistant job at Wenn Enterprises. Enter Ms. Blackwell. What a hoot. Tough as nails HR bitch and couture fashionista and things that come out of her mouth that will have your side aching from laughter. Their interview is one for the books. Needless to say, it doesn't end well. Enter Alex Wenn. Billionaire on a mission to close big deals in the business world. He needs a companion to keep him on target at the social events and keep the money-hungry women away. Sounds like this book could really work, right? And then in Vol 2-4, there is a nasty plot upon their lives. Intriguing, huh?

You'd be wrong. Because the first plot ends at about chapter 5 and there are still 25 more, along with four other books, and you still don't get the epilogue unless you want to read the Unleash series, which is a shabby copy and paste job of Annilihate Me. It floors me that so many people gave these books 4 and 5 star ratings. I give the first book 2 stats for effort and the next several 1 for wasting my time and pissing me off. Here's why:

CHARACTERS: these characters are as well defined and three dimensional as a blank piece of paper. It's like the difference between the description of the house salad at the local diner vs a five star gourmet restaurant. Seriously. Jennifer starts strong and interesting. A real go getter in the business world. But then she just becomes Alex's arm candy with significant baggage and trust issues. Yeah, sure, she's hot, with a quick mind and a good ability to slay her competition with her tongue but she loses steam FASTER than a car running out of gas. Alex is a billionaire. Yep, and he grins. I really can't tell you what he looks like or what he thinks or what he feels. He is closed off and rarely answers with true emotion. But he writes a love letter that makes me wish Nicolas Sparks was quoted rather than Steinbeck. It was so blasé and stiff that I needed a heating pad to warm my frozen heart and loosen my stiff muscles. Blackwell is a hoot. Quick witted, fast talking and cray-cray. But even she becomes this prattling matron of a fashionista later in the series. Lisa is the best friend with a thing for zombies who lectures Jennifer, albeit lovingly, but I never see the chemistry or fun between besties.

DIALOGUE: what the hell is Christina Ross thinking. People DO NOT talk like this. Stiff, unyielding, AND there is a ton of lazy copy and paste jobs. Word for word to fill pages. And half the time you have to read that crap over again because you can't tell who is talking. With the exception of Blackwell, The voices have no uniqueness.

ROMANCE/SEX: practically non-existent. There are few romantic dates and even fewer overtures. Sexually, To Ross' credit, this is not erotica. I'm not a fan of that. But for a guy who gives a hot speech about not being vanilla when it comes to sex and having a lot of needs in that department, I'd have expected some indication of his style or playfulness or even frequency. Nope. Nada. This isn't even French Vanilla, it's so plain and dull.

PLOT: it's an ever-shifting plot that goes absolutely nowhere and into places that are seriously beyond my ability to suspend disbelief (especially the later volumes). Ross must fancy herself a mystery/romance writer but she is entirely unsuccessful. She attempts to bring in a murder plot that she can't seem to resolve with a character we actually know. And she can't do it in a timely fashion. We know the reason all along but it doesn't do anything to move the story forward or develop the bond between Alex and Jennifer.

OVERALL: This entire series should have been a fast-paced 300-500 page book with an intriguing plot with a real ending. But that would require restraint, which Ross clearly lacks. She is a lazy author who uses copy and paste way too frequently. She takes her time developing (and I use that word lightly) a soap opera length series that never truly ends and by the time you reach the so-called end, you are bored with the characters, dialogue and author. Ross will likely remain a self-published indie author because she clearly cannot stand to be edited. If she were smart enough to get a qualified editor, like her character Lisa does, she could become better. Until then, spare yourself unwanted frustration and boredom. Calgon, take me away. I need it after this piece of crap.

It was between 3 and 4 stars.
I started the first book because it was a free read on kindle, and decided to stay with A&J for a little while.

it was refreshing to read about a girl, who didn't major in English lit, but is an MBA graduate whose hard work and logical thinking is finally paying off.

what doesn't hurt is that her companion is a billionaire who can give her a great job ;)

what i don't understand is her reluctance to call Alex her boyfriend. I think it's less "threatening" that being his companion, but that is just me I know :)

liked this book better than the first one.

will I continue? probably. she seems up my alley

I loved the first book..... this....

The author has dragged out the readers anticipation for the couple to seal the deal.... And Jennifer not wanting to be labeled as a girlfriend rather preferring the term "companion".... Um ok then... Thats much better.... And this isn't just mentioned once but Jennifer seems to bang on about it relentlessly.... Now i love descriptions but listening to Alex prattle on about french cuisine and how long to cook an egg to get the full benefits of the protein... I felt i was reading Jaime Oliver's 10 minute meals...

I will carry it on after loving book 1 i went and brought the boxset on Audio... Im just hoping book 3 a little more interesting

Fun chick lit for a quick and slightly racy read... it felt a bit rushed and the rich boy falling for poor girl is a little more annoying in the second installment. Overall still enjoying the escapist ride.

This review is the same for each of the 4 volumes of this series. Each volume should be read in order and before moving on to the next volume. No volume is a standalone and you have to read all of them for the complete story.

The characters are serious, responsible, intelligent adults. I liked the interaction between Alex Wenn, a billionaire who runs his own conglomerate, and Jennifer Kent, a recent very sharp MBA graduate who moves from Maine to NYC and needs a job. Jennifer lives and breathes business.

Alex is a young widower who hasn’t had interest in any woman since the death of his wife 4 years earlier. Jennifer was raised by a verbally and emotionally abusive father and a weak mother. She has huge trust issues. In spite of those difficulties Alex and Jennifer have immediate chemistry when they meet. Their romantic relationship moves forward slowly at first but their business relationship is instantaneous. They work well together and their skill sets compliment one another making them a great team.

Someone out there doesn’t like our lovers and wants them dead. Is the villain one of the many people hurt by one of Wenn’s business deals? Is it one of the many women who want Alex for themselves?

There were a couple of very well developed secondary characters, Barbara Blackwell and Lisa Ward, who I liked a lot. Ms. Blackwell works for Wenn. Lisa is Jennifer’s childhood friend and moved to NYC with her. Lisa is a novelist who writes books about zombies.

This was a pretty good read during volumes 1 & 2. The writing was straight forward and economical most of the time. But at volume 3 I thought the pace slowed way down and Jennifer became fixated on the abuse she suffered at her father’s hand. She did a bit too much soul searching and the story started to drag. Then the author really buried what had been a good story with minutiae. There was a pretty good story going on so I’m not sure why the author needed to pause the action and add so much filler. The result of all of this filler was that I got bored and wanted to abandon the book.

Volume 4 begins and the story picks back up but it doesn’t take long before there’s far too much detail about their surroundings and other people and feelings that have been expressed repeatedly. As much as I wanted to know who was trying to kill them and why, I gave up and didn’t finish the last volume.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!

This is #2 in the series, which the author insists are full length novels. They are short novels. This one ends in another cliff hanger. Hmmmmm

So, Alex & Jennifer's relationship progresses & Alex takes her on a vacation. They finally consummate their love. The vaca is cut short when he receives several mysterious phone calls.
There's a lot of conversation & padding until we get to the thrilling conclusion in the last chapter.
.
.
.
.
So, this was a 3 star book until the last chapter. I sure didn't like it as much as the first book. It seemed to drag.
The last chapter there's been threats made to Alex, which are very specific. Jennifer also gets an e-mail threat. When they leave a fancy party(because why wouldn't you go & schmooze with the wealthy when there's been death threats), there's gunfire & chaos.
They have a fight in the car & Jennifer demands to get out of the bullet proof car they're traveling in to walk home(??!!). After the gun fire & threats. Alex of course gets out to try to talk some sense in her, except he can't. Because the author made her intelligent, sensible heroine act TSTL!! The last sentence is the crazed gunman texting her he's going to kill them both on the sidewalk. Because she's TSTL & can't stay safely in a bullet proof car. THE END.
Til the 3rd book. :(

So, I'm not going to pay more money to be strung along. After an author makes her heroine act in ways that aren't in character I'm out.

Slowly getting to the end

There seems to be a lot of repetition and fluff. When she's getting ready for a party, it seems that she has the same conversation with Blackwell. She takes the same elevator ride to the 47th floor where Alex is waiting for her. They go to these parties and they talk to the same snooty women who turn their noses up at her and bat their eyelashes at Alex. He's keeping a secret from her and telling her that is being "dealt with". I hate it when they do this in books. Isn't it supposed to be a partnership? She's a strong independent woman, she can handle it.

I stumbled upon Christina Ross's Annihilate Me Complete Set. Because I read the set and not each individual book, I'm not sure where one story stops and the next stops, so forgive me if there are spoilers contained below.

I found Jennifer to be annoying, and needy. I found Alex to be flat. There was nothing to attach me to these characters. In addition, I found the story to be overly detailed in some places (so many shopping trips) and under detailed in others (what substance does Alex have?). The conversations between characters were also very stiff and scripted.

This picked up right where the first one left off.

I have to say I liked Jennifer less in this one. I appreciate her business sense, but she’s immature and let’s her past trust issues affect her relationship with Alex and hasn’t really confided in him about her past.

Alex hasn’t confided in Jennifer either, but we’re lead to believe that his home life wasn’t the greatest growing up. He does tell her that he hasn’t been in a relationship since his wife died four years ago.

I really like Ms. Blackwell. Her character is great.

This one ends on a huge cliffhanger as well.

The story continues for Jennifer and Alex. Danger is around every corner... can they survive?

I get they both have pasts but seriously this was repetitive. I'm not sure she knows how to listen to advice.

I do prefer her when she is in business mode as she is stronger. He is ok but a bonus point for Ms Blackwell... I actually quite heart her

This shouldn’t just be book 1! Really difficult to put down & then have to keep reading into volume 2+

Fluke that I picked this book to read. Love the idea behind it.

Love how they meet & you know what will happen next. Biggest disappointment is the way the books (or volumes) are broken up so you have to buy each one to keep reading!

This volume gave me some of the moments missing in the first. Putting volume 1 and 2 together makes it feel like a more complete book. The drama and mystery amped up at the end and it does end in a cliff hanger. I am getting more invested in the characters now and am anxious to get started on volume 3 to see what happens.

Alex and Jennifer

Hard to put down, a budding attraction, now Jennifer is to become Alex’s consultant, keeping secrets is not a good idea, Alex has just found out, which leads to dangerous situations. A romance is also blossoming, IF the problems get sorted. Loved it
