Kill the Music offers an interesting perspective that is so different to the mundane everyday life; what it feels like to have a rich and famous sibling and to be forever living in his shadow.

It’s not all glitz and glamour however, as Lorna, a teenage girl with a famous brother, finds herself being lonely and struggling to fit in. Everyone at school just wants to get close to her so they can find out more about Turmoil, one of the hottest rock band in the world. As she’s drawn into endless rehearsals, concerts, and travel, all she wants is a normal life. When Lorna overhears someone communicating murder plans at a rehearsal, her life gets thrown upside down as she struggles to protect the band and track the suspect down.

The book isn’t normally something I would have picked up from the blurb, but I’m really glad I got the chance to read it because I ended up loving it! Nansi Kunze is a skilled writer and never did I find that the novel was too young or immature. The way she wraps the combination of Lorna’s surreal life, trying to be normal, while throwing in enough about the mystery was skillful. My nose was glued to the novel from start to finish as the elements of mystery, romance and humour were so perfectly balanced.

Lorna is so down to earth and witty, but you can tell she’s also lonely being surrounded by a famous band and their crew. Never does she use that popularity to try and make friends or get ahead, and the girl who she ends up making friends with is someone who is as grounded as she is. It’s easy to let all the fame and fortune get to your head but Lorna is mostly embarrassed about being chauffeured in a limo and getting swamped by fans everywhere. Although she’s living an unbelievable life that many may covet, she just feels so real from the way the author conveys her thoughts and emotions.

The band is her only family as her parents passed away and her brother is her sole guardian. They mean everything to her as they live together and take her everywhere they go. So when she hears her family being threatened by a faceless murderer, she devotes all of her time and efforts into protecting them and finding out who it is. From running off the set of a music video to convincing a German butler to do her bidding, Lorna finds herself in some hilarious but scary situations as she pursues the suspected murderer with the FBI in tow.

I found Kill the Music to be thoroughly entertaining and real, and would recommend it to YA lovers everywhere. I’ll be following more of Nansi’s work as I really enjoyed her writing here.

I received this book for review from Random House Australia, in exchange for an honest review. Much appreciated and thank you so much for this!

Hand me a book by Nansi Kunze and it’s pretty much a given that I will adore it, not only that but I will read it in about two hours or less. Nansi’s books are probably the most enjoyable books I’ve ever read- there just so quick and easy to get through, but at the same time they are incredibly intelligent and witty. I could talk for hours about Nansi’s books but today, I’m just focusing on this one.

This one is a little bit different to her past two books. Mishaps and Dangerously Placed, which are both mind-blowingly amazing, are a bit Sci-Fi, but Kill the Music is something different. It’s a sort of mystery, contemporary, romance, action, almost even a bit spy-ish, and all these elements together makes for one hell of a book. It starts off normal enough and then suddenly, you’ve been thrown into the world of Lorna and Turmoil, and then before you know, you finished the book and its left a big gaping hole in your heart for Marius. (Maybe that was just me, though).

Lorna, like all of Nansi’s main characters, is wonderful. She seems so real, even though her life is something out of a teenage girls dream. But Lorna is not a pop-star herself, she’s just a normal girl going through high school, or at least attempting to go through high school. I think the fact that Lorna is just a normal girl who struggles with classes and making friends and annoying older brothers (something that I have very much in common in Lorna) is what makes her such an amazing main character. At the same time, she is so very badass- let me ask you this, how many teenage girls do you know that will try and take down a killer to save her brother and his friends? Personally, I would terrible at it. But that’s what makes this book so fun- it’s the fact that yeah, Lorna is a normal high school girl, but she also fiercely protective of the ones she loves.

Talking about the ones she loves- the boys of Turmoil. Oh my god. I swear, if they were a real band- I was be their biggest fan. They are just so funny (and incredibly attractive) but they’ve also got this sweet side that you get to see through their interactions with Lorna. Flint, Lorna’s brother, is adorable. I think that’s the only way you can describe him. It felt like he was my older brother with all of his protectiveness and silliness and even though there were times where I felt so embarrassed for Lorna- he was still a great brother and a great character. Marius. How to explain the beautiful Marius? Basically, I think I have a new literary boyfriend. At first, I wasn’t a fan of him- he sort of seems to be one of those real rock star, arrogant types but as the book progresses you actually get to see how wonderful he is. By the end, as I said before, there’s a big gaping hole in my heart where Marius belongs. He’s actually a real person, you know? I refuse to believe otherwise.

This story is just amazing. Both the plot and the characters are as important and fun as the other. They work so well together, it wouldn’t be the same story without the characters and they wouldn’t be the same characters without the story. I think that shows just how perfectly they fit together. And as for that ending...well...*heart melts*.

Oh, this was a lovely romp! Lorna Powell lives the kind of life most people aspire to: travelling the world, chauffeur-driven everywhere, personal chef, etcetera etcetera... If only she didn't have to put up with her brother Flint and his mates in mega-rockstar band Turmoil! But when it comes to defending Flint and the boys against a potential murder threat, Lorna puts aside her gripes and works hard to protect her brother and her adopted 'family'. I liked that about the character - Lorna isn't selfish or petty. In fact, she's a pretty normal person (living an unusual life) who has a great big vein of integrity and bravery running through her. Nansi brought all the locations to life - Japan, Vienna, among others - and this provides a lot of colour. At heart Kill the Music is a bit like 'Nancy Drew goes on tour' - it has a lot of innocent charm, and that's what made me like it so much.

A little cheesy and a little silly, but in a good way. A very fun read, I had a smile on my face most of the time while reading it. The band's antics were hilarious.

I couldn't finish this book becuase it was one of those cheesy silly romance stories that should've stayed on Wattpad. And even worse, i lost the book and had to pay $19 to my school library so they could buy a new copy.

Before I get started, I just want to say that this review is something I've been avoiding for the last two weeks or so. It wasn't like I was too busy, or wasn't in the mood, but I genuinely didn't want to sit down and write this review.

Why? Well I thought this book was okay. I didn't hate it, but for me, there just weren't any sparks. I don't know if it was the story itself, or if it was just me being too busy and not being involved enough in the story.

Not everyone likes, every book, I understand that. But I'm a book blogger, I have to tell you guys what I honestly think, right?

Okay here it goes (short and sweet)...

Kill the Music is about a girl named Lorna, who is the little sister to one of the members of the NEWEST and HOTTEST boy bands out there. While girls only dream about being so close to the boys, Lorna can't get away or have any time herself.

She's tired of following them to all their recordings, shoots and other business meetings. Lorna doesn't want to live a completely normal life, but she does want to attend a normal school with other normal teenagers.

Things are a bit bumpy and rough on her first few days of school, but it's nothing Lorna can't handle. But that's not what she's struggling with, it's the fact that someone plans to murder her brother and the rest of the band. She isn't sure who it is, but she heard the conversation the person had on the phone, while hiding.

She isn't sure what to do, and who to trust anymore, so Lorna decides to head to the police, where her REAL adventure takes off. Lorna is following people, tracking them down, and on her way to becoming a spy..all to save her brothers.

So that's basically what the story is about. It sounds okay, especially if you aren't looking for anything too dark or serious. But I just couldn't connect with this story, for a few reasons...

1. The school. Okay, I understand that you want to do something "normal", and going back to school seems like a good way to go. But it just seemed off to me. She made a friend extremely quickly, and was acting too shy and intimidated for someone who is used to this kind attention.

2. Lorna gossips! When a few kids at school ask her if the rumors about Marius are true or not, she tells them that she doesn't know and if she did she wouldn't be able to say anything! But then Lorna turns around to her new "friend" and tells her everything that "happened". She had no idea if this true or not, and told those kids from earlier that she can't say anything, but then turns around and talks about it anyways.

3. No suspense. Like I said earlier, I think this was more on me, than the book itself. I was VERY busy around the time I was reading and I don't think I was able to get fully invested in it.

Even though there are these three things that bothered me, I actually liked the whole concept. I liked that Lorna was the little sister of a band member, and not some crazed fan. I liked seeing the family aspect that this band had, and how they all take care of each other. I even liked the whole "murdering" idea!

But in the end this book just didn't work out for me, which is very disappointing.

Have you read Kill the Music? What did you think about it?

I'd give this three and a half stars - all the elements were there but I felt like maybe something was missing.
Lorna has a pretty awesome life - she gets to travel around the world with her brother and his very famous band and is never left wanting for anything - but she's still pretty down to earth. After she hears someone making a threatening phone call that sounds like someone is going to kill the band, she works on her own and with the police to try and figure out who the mastermind is. Who can she really trust when so many people seem suspicious? And why is Marius, the lead singer and notorious ladies man, suddenly showing interest in Lorna?
