Rate this book
He owned everything she had except the one thing that mattered — her heart....

Lindsay MacPhaull took one look at the tall, dark, handsome Texan in her office doorway and knew that she was in trouble. And, as always, she was right. Jackson Stennett had come to New York City to deliver the news that her long-absent father was dead, and that everything — from her struggling business to the very clothes on her back — now belonged to him.

Jackson Stennett was no stranger to tragedy or to the loss of love. But the minute he lays eyes on the seductive and headstrong Lindsay, the walls begin to crumble. He has sixty days to resist her charms and sell off the business. Lindsay has sixty days to stop him from destroying her world.

But when acts of sabotage and shadowy threats emerge, they have no choice but to join forces in a sizzling alliance against a terrifying, unseen enemy who would destroy them both.... and bring out an intense passion and desire neither can deny.

Hi everyone! Here are a few facts about me:
I am a multi-published author in mass market historical fiction, or in other words, I write historical romances. I have a background in education, specifically social studies, but I've also dabbled in directing a public television station and serving as a police liaison officer.

I've been married to my wonderful husband, David, for twenty years and I have a teenage son who has yet to encounter a sport he doesn't love. Basically, when I'm not frantically writing and eyeing deadlines, I'm running a taxi service to various sports venues around town. Heck, around the entire state of Kansas.

Speaking of which, I live in a small town on the prairie where everyone gathers at the football field for Fourth of July fireworks and the Lions Club serves free ice cream and watermelon. Where going to the ball diamonds, the grocery store, and the truck stop for dinner is always a social occasion. Where the police department is all of three guys and the Chief drives a PT Cruiser.

My life is full of love and adventure, which always carry into the historical romances I pen.

When Billy Weathers dies, his will leaves everything to his business partner, Jackson Stennett. This includes his half of the ranch in Texas and a business back east. Since Jackson needs money to pay off Billy's overdue loans on the ranch, he travels to New York City to take a look at the business and collect some much-needed funds. When Jackson arrives, he is surprised to find that Billy had abandoned his family when he left New York many years ago. Billy's youngest daughter, Lindsay MacPhaull, has been trying to keep the family business afloat with the help of family friend Richard Patterson. When they learn that everything now belongs to Jackson, Richard has a stroke and can no longer help Lindsay. Now Lindsay needs to persuade Jackson not to sell the business out from under her and her siblings.

This was an appealing historical romance with a likeable hero and heroine. Jackson quickly realizes he can't leave Lindsay without a penny to her name. He looks at the books and quickly realizes that the business has been bleeding money for the last fifteen years, mostly due to a series of unfortunate accidents. But when another accident occurs and one of their buildings burns to the ground, Jackson realizes the accidents are sabotage.

I liked the story and enjoyed trying to figure out who was behind the sabotage. My rating: 4 Stars.

I can't believe so few people have read this book and no one has written a review.

I think this historical romance, and perhaps the author, is a "sleeper" on Goodreads. ...meaning that it is very good and not been noticed thus far.

I generally don't like to give a lot of detail of the book if the book itself has a good description.

This is NOT a western historical romance. The story takes place in 1838 New York City. The prologue starts with the hero in Texas, but the entire story is in New York City.

This is not one of those books where the hero comes across as a "yokel" or "yahoo", with quaint western phrases coming out of his mouth every page throughout the book. The hero adapts rather quickly to "city life" and "city ways". Both the hero and heroine are intelligent beings with strong characters and wills that will have you reading through the end to see how things wrap up.

Largely this book and the hero/heroine's involvement center around inheritance, finances and legalities with colorful characters rebelling around them for different reasons, people who appear to be the villains who may or may not be and an embezzlement scheme. Plenty of "whodunnit".

If you like to read romance books that read like playing the game, "Clue", then I think you will like this book.

I don't have a strongly-labeled bookshelf description for these types of books. Roughly, I tend to throw them in a category I call "historical Americana romance".

At any rate, the books reads fast and is mostly well-paced with development/introduction of characters and action and wraps up neatly and somewhat surprisingly. I couldn't quite give it 5 stars as I only give 5 stars to books that I am certain I want to read again one day, but I'd say it was a strong 4.5 on my scale.
